Prologue: Link the Former Hero of Time
Those who make mistakes blame themselves and close their hearts. It's impossible to fix the mistake. Men can't return to the past, not the real past. That's why they drink. Drunks sliding alcohol down their throats to dilute memories that can not be forgotten. Link, the Former Hero of Time, does nothing but drink and he questions the glass after it is empty.
Link lost his beloved life and child years ago, no one knows how and no one really cares. The place you would find the drunk hero would be at the tavern called "The Styx", the appropriately named bartender was Sharon. She would be a guide to the lost souls or customers in her tavern but did so in the most apathetic way.
The mysterious Link was the one man in the bar that would ramble on about anything and everything but if one brought up his past he would retaliate like that of a sober man. The reality was the same bed he woke up in with his loving wife and sleeping daughter was now littered with old whiskey bottles and terrible memories. Link had a sword, Link had the sword in which a million legends have sprung from, it sits on his table and not a day goes by that Link doesn't think about tasting the cold steel going down his throat, the price was life to be with his family.
His job? He had none. Other relatives? None either. Friends? The only people who looked out for him were the soldiers dragging his sleeping body home every night, and the shot glasses that screamed out in pain for the man who uses them.
The innocent children in town would call him the Driftless Drifter. In some way they were right. To say that he wasn't a drifter would be a lie, every night he would unconsciously dream about his past and leaving Hyrule. The children didn't call him that for that reason though they called him that because everyday he would never leave his spot on the dusty road and would sit in the sand until the sun went down. When the stars started to shine he would drink to better times with people passing through town. His soul died long ago and he waits for his body to die with it.
