Behind the Veil

Pushed into the darkness,
Lost behind the veil.
Gone without a trace,
Not even a goodbye.

No one could have saved him,
It happened all too quick.
Caught off guard with a spell,
Then everything seemed to slow.

A silent scream now in place,
Both his arms a flail.
Bending to make an arch,
Trying to stay a foot.

At last he fell backward,
Giving up all hope.
He let the spell take over,
Letting himself fall endlessly.

He should have seen it coming,
But pride got the better of him.
Now he's left behind that one person,
Who would stay by him to the end.
