What is love? Those who can't define it have never truly been in it. They describe it as many things. But they are all wrong. You see, love is everything that anyone can describe it as, every word you can find for it, and more. It's like you're flying. High above the clouds. High above everyone else. And once you're there you can never get down. For true love lasts forever. It changes you. Being in love is like being everything and nothing at once. You are powerful, yet you are weak. You knew everything yet nothing. And not even these words could truly describe it. For love just IS. It comes and goes as it pleases. It is wild and untamed. It breaks hearts but it can heal them too.
He had been happily flying, when suddenly his life became a whirlwind. At one moment his darling Elizabeth was in his arms, kissing him. The next, she was buried deep beneath the earth with only a stone that reads: 'Here lies Elizabeth Swann. His beloved soon to be married. She will always be remembered in our hearts.' to know that it was her. She was just barely out of his grasp.
He thought back to the day they had met. He was just eleven, nearly twelve. When he first saw he had thought he had died and went to heaven and she was an angel. He had not been aware of the other people around them. All he noticed and cared about was her.
Then, years later, when they were both grown up she had been kidnapped by pirates. He had thought she would never see her again. He went after her, but never really felt any hope. Though things had turned out for the best. She was safe, and their love for each other was revealed. When he had kissed her up on the tower, the world just seemed to slip away. All that mattered was him and her, together at last.
It was soon after that it happened. There was an accident at the blacksmith shop. She had been admiring a sword, which lay on a rack with some other swords, when she bumped into the rack on accident. They all tumbled down, one of them on its way impaling her. As he held her dying form in his arms, reassuring her it would be alright, though he knew there was no hope. She had made him make a promise. 'Promise me you always love me...' she had said. And he did, and would. After that she went limp. Her chest stopped rising in struggling gasps for air, and he knew. She was dead. He had sat there with her lifeless figure in his arms crying. Even when he thought he had no more tears to cry he had cried some more.
That was about a year ago. Now he stood above her grave, like he had every night since the funeral, and cried. Tears steamed quietly down his cheeks. He couldn't help but think it was his fault. He had made the swords after all.
People had told him he had to move on. He knew he should, too, but he just couldn't. His love for her was too great to just forget about her and move on.
She was somebody different. Different from all the other girls. Her smile would light up his day. When she was upset, he was upset with her. She understood him like no one else. And she was gone now.
Will sighed, whispered a soft goodbye, and slowly walked out of the graveyard, as the sun set in the distance
There would be other fish in the sea, yes. But there would never be another swan on the lake.
