"Are you gonna come in?" Abby asked, stepping aside to let him in. Carter nodded and walked in. It was dark. There were no lights on. The only light was coming form the window. Abby apparently couldn't find any words. Neither could he. They stood there, facing the floor, not looking at each other. There was a long, awkward silence. Abby couldn't stand it any longer. Why had he come?
"I'm so sorry, John," Abby said, trying to fall into his gaze. He looked up. He didn't need pity, he just needed her. No. He didn't. He didn't love Abby anymore. He started to rethink his decision to come. Abby noticed he was tearing up again, though he did not. She didn't know what to do. Many times before had she gone to him for help, for guidance, for love, but never did he come to her. And now he has. She thought of the first thing he had always done. Tell her that everything would be alright. But, Abby thought, everything wasn't going to be all right. He just lost a baby. Her problems never amounted so something that painful. Never.
"Abby?" Carter asked. "Are you alright?" He asked again. Abby just stood there, frozen in her own suffering. Of course everything wasn't all right. He brushed his palm on her cheeks. She closed her eyes. When she opened them, they were filled with tears. One by one, they fell, falling down her already tear-stained cheeks.
"Shh..." he cooed. "Everything will be all right. Shh..."
Somehow, she believed him. Just like the times before...
