One Wish

The fresh, forest breeze lifted her hair as Kikyou made her way home. It was a nice day, the sun was shining and there was not a cloud in the sky. In the shade of the forest, she was safe from the blazing heat. Birds were singing their joy, and a deer watched her warily from a distance. Kikyou smiled slightly, it was a good day.

A flash of white caught her eye and her smile widened. He was nearby, her faithful companion and protector. He was always by her side; faithful and loving like no other. He alone had never, would never abandon her. He knew what it was like to be alone.

Her hand rose to brush against the jewel around her neck and the smile faded. It was the thing that kept her apart from the rest of the world. It kept her alone. It was her duty to guard and purify it of evil. Unfortunately, the job required her to remain completely pure. Only he stayed with her.

Legend said that if one were to make a wish on the jewel, as long as it was a pure wish, the jewel would become completely purified and disappear. But what wish could she make that would not corrupt the jewel? Another flash of white and he came out of the brush.

"Inuyasha." Kikyou breathed the name of her dearest companion. Cocking his head slightly, he trotted over to her side. Kikyou sat down in the grass with a smile and he lay down next to her without protest. Her hand crept out and idly began to scratch one of the furry white triangle ears. With a happy growl of contentment, he moved his head to her lap.

Kikyou smiled softly down at him. Abandoned and abused as a pup, she had taken him under her wing and in return he loved her unconditionally. There was no doubt in the young woman's mind that he would go to the ends of the earth for her. He had proven more then once he would put himself in harm's way to keep her safe.

"Oh, my dear Inuyasha, how I wish you were human so we could live together and love one another till the day we die." As she spoke, the large white dog lifted his head, his big golden eyes fixing on her face and his tail wagging happily. Then the jewel around her neck began to glow.

A bright flash of pink light and where the dog had been there now lay a man. His long black hair shone in the sun and the eyes that had been golden were now a beautiful violet. His smooth skin was stretched over perfectly formed muscles. The triangle ears retreated down the sides of his head to form their human counterparts.

Kikyou's hand went to her mouth, stifling the gasp that rose. He was perfect. Never in all her years of healing had she seen a man so perfectly formed as this one. Her hand dropped down to her throat, but the jewel was gone.

"Inuyasha…" She ventured, almost afraid her eyes were betraying her. He lifted his violet eyes to stare into her own with that same love he had always shown her. Then he moved on, taking in the world with his new eyes. Kikyou scooted closer, her eyes wide with fascination. "Inuyasha," He looked back at her attentively, "Say something, anything." She begged. A slow, amused sort of grin spread across his face. She leaned closer, ready to hear the first words he would say.

"Now aren't you sorry you had me fixed."
