Thanks for reading the story and reviewing! Sorry it took so long to get up. I just got my first paying job at $7.75 an hour! Yay! Hey, does anyone know when the rest of Season 2 of KND will be premiering? Just wondering.

~*Chapter 3*~

Number 4 and Number 274 woke up the next morning to see a thunderstorm going on outside. Number 4 swung her legs over the bedside and let them dangle before going off to the bathroom. Number 274 walked around a bit and watched the lightning come down from the sky as she waited for her fellow operative to finish up. She heard the tub faucet go on and then the shower nozzle. She walked down to the other operatives already downstairs to pass the time. She found Numbers 1, 2, 3, and 5 at the study table sulking over textbooks and workbooks.

"What are you guys doing?" she asked. Number 1 perked up and gave Number 274 a scowl.

"Nothing that concerns you," she snapped. She brought her head back to the books. Number 274 looked hurt.

"Oh," she mumbled, "I didn't know."

"Well, now you do."

"Right."

"So leave."

Number 274 did as she was told, wondering why none of the other operatives were sticking up for her as they usually did whenever Number 1 freaked out like that. She walked back up the stairs to find Number 4 in her day clothes.

"You're fast!" she cried.

"Yup. I know," Number 4 replied, shaking her head. "I just scrubbed down and put my clothes on."

"In four minutes?"

"Uh-huh."

"Wow."

It was true that Number 4 was fast when it came to showers. She wasn't one to do things like waste time washing hair or something. Besides, what if a mission came in, you know? It was bad enough that when the TND had their own encounter with the lice hungry for hair, Number 1 almost ran out of the shower naked because Number 4 had brought back nachos. Number 1 lived for Mexican food. But that wasn't the point. The point was that Number 4 was fast.

"So, we need to go meet Knightbrace back at the candy store tomorrow?" Number 274 asked.

"Yup," Number 4 replied. "He probably needs a day to create a new task for us to do or something like that."

"Okay, I'm getting in the shower then."

"Try not to drown."

Number 274 cocked her head and walked into the bathroom. Number 4 flopped down on her bed and closed her eyes to try getting herself together. Last night had just been weird. What happened next was even weirder.

Flashback

"Number 1, I am so done," Number 4 announced. "You've already told us two legends. Yeah, yeah, the poor woman with the lost lover and the boy curse by the ruler was oh-so-sad, but do you think we can skip this and get to the point?"

"It doesn't have a point," Number 1 said flatly. "That's why I'm telling it to you."

"Because you feel like being pointless?"

"Hey, who's got the story in the first place?"

Number 4 sighed and held her head in her hands. Her face went blank. I won't tell you that Number 1 was happy at this, but she was feeling good that she got someone's attention by force. Yup, this is still the old Number 1.

"As I was saying," Number 1 continued, "one day, the boy was kidnapped. No one knew why! Just the day before he came over to play with the girl. All was right with the world at that point. It seemed to happen overnight. That was the strange part of the mystery. No one knew who had done it."

"Odds of the kidnapping were put on the girl. After all, she always had the perfect opportunity to get him. It was logical. The only thing was that she didn't do it! She knew it, but no else did. She was determined to shed a little light on this case and find where her little friend had been taken."

"One day, the girl's older brother left the house in the middle of the afternoon. 'Where are you going?' she asked. Her brother stared at her and said, "You don't need to know." He left. The girl thought for a moment and jumped up to the front door. She opened it and looked outside. 'Crazy brother,' she muttered. 'Older teenagers are so weird.'"

"'I agree!'"

"The girl looked up and was shocked at what she saw. There was the leader with her two slaves. They flew down from the sky. The two slaves grabbed the girl and brought her forth their leader. She had been watching this young girl from her home planet and loved her cunning and bright mind. 'You will be my slave,' she said. 'But what about my best friend?' the girl cried."

"'I killed him,'" her brother said from behind the leader.

End Flashback

"EARTH TO NUMBER 4!!!" Number 274 shouted. Number 4 woke up from her trance with a jolt. She shook her head and looked up at the operative. Number 274 was already showered, dressed, and hair-styled.

"I was just dreaming."

"Noticed that," 274 sighed. "You know, Number 1 snapped at me, AGAIN!"

"It was just one box of Girl Scout cookies!"

"This was over mid-terms."

"Those crazy tests!"

"Shut up, Number 4!" Number 1 called from downstairs. "This equation is hard. For some reason, this thing won't let me get a negative through a positive times a positive!"

Number 4 gave a low growl and looked up at Number 274. "You are so lucky you don't have to deal with Number 1 every day."

"Oh, I think I know."

Number 4 and Number 274 walked down the stairs. They walked into the Study Room of the tree house. Number 1 had her eyes narrowed and looking up at them. She was angry. Her cheeks were turning red and the hair on the top of her started to stick up a bit.

"Why did you invite HER to our base?" she questioned. She pointed to 274.

"She's going to help me get Numbah 4 back," Number 4 replied.

"I want her out."

"Too bad,"

"Then both leave!"

That was all they needed. Number 4 and Number 274 left the tree house. There was a moment of silence until Number 4 looked back into the room.

"Number 1, I'm going to be honest. Every now and then, you act as if you're a ruler, and we're your slaves."

She left.

Number 4 and Number 274 hung out at the root beer bar for teenagers throughout that entire night and most of Wednesday. They hooked themselves on root beer to keep themselves awake the whole night. Eventually, the people cut them off, Number 4 first. They slept through most of the morning and went to school that day. Both of them went to the nurses and went home early. Uh, actually they went back to the bar and slept there until 11:00 at night.

Both of the operatives stood outside the candy store still exhausted.

"Remind me again why we chugged on root beer until 3:00 in the morning last night," Number 274 said flatly.

"We were downing ourselves in the misery of having Number 1 for a leader."

"Do you hate her or something?"

"No, she just bugs me sometimes."

The operatives waited for another fifteen minutes until the door to the candy store opened. Knightbrace was there once again, and he looked like he had a challenge in mind. Number 4 gave him a willful look and walked into the store before he could say anything.

"What's her problem?" he asked to 274.

"You don't want to know."

"Number 1?"

"Yup."

Number 274 walked into the candy store following Knightbrace. They walked to the back room past the jar of minutes into an even deeper, even darker spot.

"Today's challenge is a test of one thing: how much you want to win," he began. "Both of you will be put into a room filled with mint scents. If one or both of you can last more than five minutes, you'll win. However, if both of you quit, I win, and I get Beatles."

"Are we playing a really bad version of 'Survivor' here or what?" Number 4 asked, crossing her arms. Knightbrace had just about enough.

"You've been sarcastic to me since you were eight years old in the Kids Next Door as Numbah 235," he muttered, "and you haven't changed a bit! Didn't anyone ever teach you any manners?"

"Didn't anyone ever teach you not to go insane?"

That was good. He was defeated when it came to that one. He pressed a button and opened up the door. Number 4 and Number 274 walked inside. Number 4 stuck her tongue out at Knightbrace and snickered before he closed the door.

One minute later, there was pounding on the door. Knightbrace opened it up, and a very out-of-breath Number 4 came charging out. Her face was pure white as alabaster, and she was breathing hard.

"That is so not fair!" she cried. "There must be at least five hundred pounds of mint leaves in there!"

"If only your guessing skills were that good for the first challenge."

"You mean...?"

"There ARE exactly five hundred pounds of mint leaves in there."

If this were an anime, Number 4 would've fallen down flat on her face with a giant sweat drop on her forehead.

Time passed. Number 4 looked to the clock hanging on the wall constantly. She was worried about Number 274. What if she suffocated in there? What if she was running out of oxygen? After all, it was a completely closed off room. Her knees began to shake, something that didn't happen too often. She bit a few of her black-colored nails. She was really nervous.

Knightbrace was, too. All the people that came with Number 4 so far were doing really well. Number 7 was really lucky, and he knew that Number 274 was the best Teen Next Door ever. Maybe Numbah 4 meant a lot to them. Maybe Number 4 was friends with him. He couldn't help but think that they could be best friends who were so different.

The clock ticked the final five seconds. Five...four...three...two...one! Number 274 had done it! She lasted at least five minutes in a room with five hundred pounds of mint leaves! Number 4's face brightened with great light. She pressed the button to the door and ran inside.

"You did it!" she shouted, hugging her. "You survived!"

"I sure did!"

"You got lucky...again!" Knightbrace spat. "Next time, things won't be so easy!" The lights to the candy store turned off in a second. The room was pitch black. A split-second later, the lights turned back on, and Knightbrace was gone.

"If only we could capture him for good," Number 4 mumbled. "It would be one less villain we'd have to worry about.

"Well, Knightbrace is crazy. You know it, I know it, we all know it!" Number 274 said. "We'll get him next time."

"And we'll get Numbah 4 back!"

The two girls walked out of the candy store with two lollipops stuck in their mouths.
