Penelope woke up, her eyelids flickered before they opened. It took her a
while to remember where she was. She yawned and lay down on her bed, but
she didn't fall asleep. She was about to, but by the noises her stomach
created, she had to eat something.
Jack was steering the ship, with one of his leg up on a small crate beside him. He didn't notice Penelope came out from her cabin. He was humming to himself, a tune that Penelope couldn't quite get.
"What are you humming?" She asked, making Jack let go of the wheel for a second or two.
"Bloody 'ell..." He muttered under his breathe, then caught the wheel. He turned and faced Penelope. "G'morning, Penelope! How did ye sleep..."
Penelope gasped before Jack could say anything more. He had dark rings under his eyes, they were small but noticable. "Jack! What happened to you? Did you not get any sleep? Why didn't we get a small crew or something to take over when you're tired?" She asked.
Jack frowned. "One questions at a time, luv..." He said holding up a finger. "I kinda need some sleep 'ere..."
"Why don't you take a nap, or something!" She said, leading him to his cabin.
Stupidly, Jack followed Penelope's lead and he was lying on his bed. "Luv, I've gottan steer the ship. I can't steer it when I'm asleep, ye know..."
"Don't worry Jack!" Penelope hushed him. "I'll steer it."
Jack looked at her with one half-open eye. "What 'bout me rum?" he asked, like a little boy asking for his teddy to go to sleep with.
She passed her a bottle of rum from... somewhere. And she went out of the room and placed herself in front of the wheel. She sighed, who was she kidding? She has never even laid a finger on this damn thing! But as she noticed the ship was heading straight for a couple of rocks, she quickly turned it, a bit. She was feeling quite proud of herself, for doing what she has never thought about doing. "Well, this is quite easy, and fun I guess." She said to herself as she comandeered the ship. After a coupleof minutes doing that, her arms began to get sore.
Just as she was resting her arms, a big wave hit the side of the ship. It rocked violently which made Jack stumble onto the wooden floor. His eyes jerked open as he noticed he wasn't comandeering the ship, then he ran out the door to see who was steering it.
He saw Penelope holding onto the wheel, trying to steer it, but they were heading for another ship! Jack jumped up to the wheel, which made Penelope jump back. He steered it for quite a while until they were some distances away from the other ship.
"Jack, I'm so sorry... I didn't know steering a ship would be that hard!" Penelope apologized.
Jack just nodded it off, his eyes were on the ship. It was tattered and looked old. He could see no movement on it.
Penelope saw the ship too. "What happened here?" She went noto the deck to inspect it closer.
"This ships been 'ere fer quite a while, I say." Jack started, not taking his eyes off the ship. "That ship was one of the fastest probably..." Then he started to lower the small rowing boat.
"Jack, what are you doing? You're not going to leave me here are you?" Penelope asked, anxiously.
"No, yer comin' with me..." He replied as he jumped into the rowing-boat. He helped Penelope into it afterwards.
After minutes of rowing, Jack and Penelope carefully aboarded the old ship. It creaked slowly with the waves, but it didn't break down. They looked around, speechless. Everything was still in one piece. "Well, luv, stay 'ere. I need ter check if this thing can still go." Jack muttered to Penelope.
Penelope nodded. She looked around again and she shivered. She really didn't like the feeling of this ship. It gave her a weird freaky feeling. The wind blew against the dirty sails, and it felt eeiry and mist was forming in front of the deck. Penelope couldn't take it no more. "Jack?" She whispered.
She waited for a reply till the floor boards creaked. She shot around trying to figure out what caused that noise. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'Everything looks alright, just a few clean-ups 'll do...' Jack thought as he checked out the ship. He was wondering if he could make this ship work, as this one seemed faster. He looked around and saw everything was mostly dusty. Then he saw a glass of rum, obviously Jack was drawn to it. "What do we have 'ere..." He grinned.
It was old, but untouched. Which was strange, but Jack didn't seem to care. He sniffed then frowned. It was old all right, too old! As he tipped the liquid out on to the floor he heard quick footsteps on the deck and the door creak open slightly. At the same minute, he heard Penelope's scream. Jack dropped the glass he was holding, which shattered into pieces. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"JACK! HELP-" Penelope screamed, but was cut by someone covering her mouth with a dusty rag. The 'someone' felt rather cold. She felt tears pouring down her cheeks, as she waited for Jack to come and rescue her. Then she feared that Jack was attacked by these people too.
Just as she was giving up her hope, Jack stood in the middle of the deck. She stared at him. "Help me, Jack..." Her voice was muffled, from the rag blocking her mouth.
She couldn't understand why he wouldn't attack them. Jack was just standing there, staring at Penelope, more like staring behind her. He looked as if he saw a ghost. His eyes were half fearing and half daring. He got out his sword and was ready to attack. But instead, he just stood there, standing hisground.
When Penelope looked back, she saw that Jack was on the floor, hurt. She was confused and worried so she screamed. She screamed again when she saw a cutlass floating in midair. Her scream was broken off as she felt a cold fist go through her stomach. She saw nothing and heard nothing.
Jack was doing his best to fight an oponent he couldn't even see. He just sliced the air, hoping he could get one of them. He sensed somehow that there were 5 invisble men he had to fight. He turned on one of the masts and spilt a bucket of water on one of the invisibles.
As soon as the water hit the figure, the water absorbed into it and with a loud painful cry, the figure was gone. 'Their weakness is water...' Jack thought.
"How dare ye get on this ship!" A voice behind Jack said, making Jack shiver. "We are spirits of the crew that were on this ship... Leave now, to go in one piece!" It said louder.
Jack turned around. "Well, then... Gentlemen, if we can be excused... I'll take the lass and ye can all be in peace." He headed to the unconscious Penelope.
But before he could make it to her the cutlass shot in front of Jack. He turned round with a quizzed look. The ghostly figure spoke. "Leave the girl behind... Or else you'll end up just like 'er" It said.
Jack looked back at Penelope and to the ship he left. "Sorry, mate. But I can't do that." And he got Penelope then dived into the water. He heard faint voices up on the surface, as the cold blurred his visions.
He swan as far as he could from the ghost ship, and made sure Penelope was still breathing. Once they were onboard their ship, he took Penelope into her cabin and laid her down on her bed. He checked her if she was okay again and went out to steer the ship.
