"Ignite it!!" Hunter yelled, his voice sounding strangled.
"Ignite it!!" Morgan screamed in my head.
Again I felt frozen with terror, shaky and stupid and ill. The Dark Wave was almost upon us, and I was mesmerized by it. In its boiling, choking clouds I could see faint outlines of faces, pinched and withered and hungry, eager. My body went cold. Each one of those people had been someone like me—someone facing this terrible cloud. It was horrifying. The most horrible thing I had ever seen or imagined.
"Ignite it! Alisa!!!!" Morgan screamed.
Alisa Soto couldn't move. She was frozen to the spot. Frantically she tried to remember the spells she had to use to cast the overall spell, but her mind was blank. There was one trail of words running through her brain.
I'mgoingtodieI'mgoingtodieI'mgoingtodieI'mgoingtodieI'mgoingtodieI'mgoingtod ieI'mgoingtodie.
"I can't remember!!!" she screamed.

Morgan swore. "Daniel! Can you hear me???" No reply. "DANIEL!!!"
He's not dead... he can't be dead. She watched the Wave move closer, closer...closer...closer... she shook her head to rid herself of the negative energy in her body. It didn't work. If she didn't do something, they'd all die. Quickly she thought back to her past talks with Ciaran or Killian.
"Only someone of his kin can fully stop it, and stop it forever. But no-one knows how to do it." Killian laughs. "Goddess, if only we found out, eh? Then we could stop the Dark Wave forever."
Suddenly she knew what she had to do. She cut herself off from Alisa, Daniel and Hunter, and then ran out of the forest, past Alisa, past Hunter, who yelled for her to stop, and at the Dark Wave, which was coming up the side of the ravine. Suddenly her arm was held back, and she looked at Hunter, who was holding her arm, tears streaming down his face.
"Don't do it," he whispered. "Don't."
She touched his cheek. "I have to. Don't worry, Hunter. Everything will be all right. You'll live, and be happy, find another girl and grow old and have fat little babies."
He laughed through his tears. "I want to do all of that with you."
"You can't. Hunter, I'm the only one here besides Alisa who can stop this. She can't remember the spell, and Daniel's too weak to do anything. So it's up to me." She kissed him, and then smiled suddenly. "We both knew that this would happen. I love you though, never, ever forget that. Just live your life, don't forget about me, but make another life, okay?"
"Don't." He stared at her as she slowly backed away.
"Tell everyone I love them, tell Mary K that everything's okay, and I believe in her. Tell Mum and Dad I forgive them for everything, and I'm sorry for not telling them anything. Tell Alisa she did great anyway, tell Daniel I'm glad he's got you, and tell yourself... tell yourself to live. Live life, Hunter, and you'll be fine."
Without another word, she turned and ran at the approaching Dark Wave. It was all too fast for Hunter: her running, her jumping, and being swallowed by darkness, screaming. All the blackness raced into her body, and she fell to the ground, limp and cold, her eyes fluttering shut.
Hunter ran over to her, and Alisa followed. "MORGAN!!" Alisa started sobbing and pounded her fists into the dirt, screaming. Hunter grabbed her body and held it to his chest, screaming. Dark veins stood out in her cheeks and neck, showing that Dark Magick was still flowing through her body, but not for much longer. Daniel arrived, taking one look at Alisa and screaming.
"NO!!!!!"
Suddenly Morgan's body started to shake, and Hunter stared at it, watching her veins stand out more in her cheeks and neck.
"It's reacting," he whispered. "The Light magick is feuding with the Dark." He looked at Daniel.
"Which one will win?" he whispered.
Then her body went limp, her veins going back down. Almost as suddenly as her body went limp, a grey shimmering mist came out of her body and flew down the ravine, screaming like ghosts.
"What was that?"
"The white and the black, still fighting." Daniel told his son. "There's no more magick in Morgan, anymore. None at all."
"I'm so sorry Hunter," Alisa sobbed.
He hugged her to him with one arm. "It's okay, sweetheart. You tried, and you did fantastically. Morgan told me to say you did great anyway."
"I killed her, didn't I?"
"No! She knew what she had to do. And she did it. You would have remembered in the end, Alisa."
"I killed her." Her voice was hollow as she repeated her sentence. "I killed her."
