33 years, 5 months and 16 days she had been waiting for this moment. Ever since she was a little girl she realised that she had been born for motherhood. Throughout her life she had been planning everything for her children, from their names to the clothes they would wear. Ever since she had a bank account she would set aside some money every month for her children in the future. No one knew about the secret bank account, her parents would have called her stupid and that she was wasting her time because no man would ever marry her. What did they know? Here she was 20 years later with a loving, caring, gorgeous husband and a baby on the way.
Monica was so grateful to the woman who gave up her children so that she could experience motherhood. So grateful that they named their little girl after her, Erica. When Monica first heard the name she absolutely hated it but now it was the most beautiful name in the world. Her son needed a beautiful name as well, so they decided to call him Jack, after he father. Jack, her father, was the only man who was there for her throughout her life and this was her way of repaying him. Her father was absolutely delighted and burst into tears when he was told, something she hadn't seen him do in such a long time.
Chandler was off phoning everyone they knew, screaming and crying down the phone that he was now a father. Monica watched with a slight grin as he jumped up and down, he was obviously talking to Joey. She walked up quietly behind him and waited till he had finished his conversation. When he hung up, he turned around to look at her, his eyes shining.
'Hey, we're parents!' He screamed loudly. Monica giggled as he picked her up and spun her around. Setting her down, he kissed her softly and passionately on the lips. 'Thank you so much.' He whispered softly, leaning his forehead against hers.
'What for? I didn't do anything. It was Erica who did all the work!' Monica grinned at him. Chandler grinned back but shook his head.
'Nooo, thank you for making me realise that it's a family that I need, a family that I want. I thought that I wanted to be alone for my whole life; I thought that it would save a whole load of heartache. But then you came along and I realised that heartache would be being by myself. Now I have you and the twins and I know that I'll never be alone again.'
Monica smiled, her eyes shining with tears. She felt the exact same way but there was no way she could tell him now, at least not comprehensibly. However, Chandler seemed to realise what she wanted to tell him and gently kissed her on the lips, letting her know that he understood. He slowly wrapped his arm around her and the two of them stayed like that, just waiting on the moment.
The moment was broken when a nurse came up to them. 'Excuse me, but Erica and Jack are just being taken to the nursery, if you would like to go with them.' Chandler grinned at Monica and hurried over to where his son and daughter were waiting. He couldn't wait to spend more time with them. Monica followed more slowly, her feet scuffing on the recently washed linoleum flooring. Her smile had now disappeared as she made her way towards her husband peering over the sides of two cots, each of which had a nurse standing at one end. She hoped that they would realise that she was coming and would begin walking because she didn't want to go right up to the cots, she didn't want to gaze into their precious faces and gently stroke their tiny hands. Because after 33 years, 5 months and 16 days of waiting – she felt nothing.
