Watching The Night

            The water is cool against my skin. Cool enough to make me shiver slightly even though it is warm out. I almost want to move my feet away from the water, but I don't because I'm too lazy to move and there is no other place for my feet to go. I look over at you, lying next to me in the sand, and I begin to stare. You don't respond verbally, but I know you notice because I can see a faint blush on your face as you stare at the stars.

            We've done this once before; watch the night together. You'd focus on the sky, while I only paid attention to you. Occasionally we would speak, mumbling short sentences about our day, but other than that, there would only be the sound of the sea.

            You asked me once, why I'd only stare at you and never at the sky. I remember telling you it was because you are more beautiful than any star I would ever see. That you were my sky, my sun, moon, and stars. I called you 'my everything'. I remember how you laughed and told me to shut up. My words embarrassed you, but I knew you liked them. The small smile and the blush you tried to hide were proof.

            I take your hand that's resting on your stomach and intertwine your fingers with mine.

"Sora…" You want to say more, but I shush you. We've done this before; I already know what you want to say.

"I know Riku." You glance at me and I smile. "I'll wait until you're ready."

            You smile back and nod before turning back to the sky and I do the same. The water is cool against my feet, but it doesn't bother me anymore. As long as I can still lay next to you with our fingers intertwined, I don't mind. I'll wait until you're ready, no matter how long it takes, because you are everything to me.
