Part 2

Meetings

Raven glared at the old man that had just bumped her, muttering dour curses and her breath. "I hate crowds," she growled as she tried to avoid being jostled into more people. "Stupid morons," she added even quieter.

She snow stood in the international airport in Tokyo, Japan, watching for her grandmother. She didn't have much to go by. Raven didn't know what the older woman looked like. "Might as well look for the old, grandmotherly type." The teenager decided and started walking.

"Excuse me, young lady," the girl turned and looked down, about a foot. "Might you be Raven Black?" Before her stood an old lady with wavy- gray hair and blue eyes that was probably for feet and eight inches tall to five feet.

"Yes, I am," Raven replied, slightly apprehensive, with a bow.

"I'm your grandmother," the old woman said calmly, as if it didn't really matter. "You may call me Genkai. Follow me, please," she turned and started walking. "We'll get your bags and leave." Raven followed in silence. Soon, the two had waved down a taxi and were on their way to Genkai's, and now Raven's, home.

"You look so much like your mother," Genkai commented out of the nowhere during the ride.

"Really?" Raven asked, curiosity sparked, "what was she like?"

"Much like your grandfather," Genkai replied, "tall, for one thing," Raven grinned, "and she had the same black hair. You're built along the same lines as well. Ah, here we are." Genkai looked out the window. They were on a dirt road, leading into a forest. The taxi driver stopped the car in front of an enormous fight of steps. "Come on, then," Raven did as she was told. Soon, the two women where climbing up the steps, each loaded down with a bag filled with Ravens' clothes and other necessities. The rest of her stuff was being mailed and wouldn't be here for another few weeks. As they reached the top of the stairs, Raven found herself looking at what seemed to be an old mountain shrine.

"It's not much," Genkai admitted, "but it's what I call home."

A girl with light blue hair and red eyes wearing a teal kimono came walking out. "Genkai, you're back," she said quietly, "and this must be your granddaughter," she smiled warmly and Raven couldn't help but return it.

"Raven, this is Yukina. She lives here with me and helps an old woman in her old age."

"Not that she really needs it," Yukina replied.

"Nice to meet you," Raven said politely and bowed as well as she could with the heavy duffle bag slung over her shoulder. "I am so glad I learned Japanese," she thought, not for the first time.

"Come, let's get you settled," Genkai urged. "Yukina, wasn't Dimwit supposed to be coming by later?" The older woman inquired.

"Yes Genkai. Yuseke said he would be here sometime this afternoon. Kazuma was going to accompany him," the girl replied.

"Thank you, Yukina." Genkai nodded to her and led the way into the house.

"Excuse me," Raven said as she trailed behind her grandmother, "but who are Yuseke and Kazuma?"

"Yuseke is my dimwit student and Kazuma, better known as Kuwabara, is his less than intelligent friend that won't stop bothering Yukina," she explained. "This will be your room. Do what ever you want with it, short of make a pigsty out of it." She pushed open a door at the end of a hallway.

"Of course," Raven looked the room over. It was simply furnished, with a bed, dresser, chair, and desk. A walk-in closet was stationed to the left. She stepped inside and set her bag down on the floor. After taking the one from Genkai, she sat down on her new bed and stared off into space. "What to do with this room?" she muttered as she looked at the walls. "Black would be a good color, or dark blue. In addition, no room is complete without a million glow-in-the-dark stars covering the walls and ceiling." Her eyes skipped to the floor. "Wood, hmmm... not much to do with that. Gonna have to get a rug of some kind. In the meantime," she glanced at her bags. "Gotta unpack." Kneeling down, she started sorting through her clothes inside the first bag. "Dresser, dresser, closet, dresser, closet, closet..." An hour later, she was stuffing the clothes she had piled in front of each area into drawers.

As she was finishing, someone knocked on Raven's door. "Come in," she called as she shoved the last shirt into her drawer. Yukina popped her head in.

"Yuseke, Kazuma, and Keiko are here if you'd like to meet them," she told Raven.

"Alright, I'm coming." Raven replied as she stood up.

Out in the main room, two boys and a girl stood talking with Genkai. "Ah, yes. Here she is," the old woman said as Raven entered, "this is my granddaughter, Raven Black. Raven, this is Dimwit," she pointed to a boy with slicked back black hair and dark eyes.

"Uremeshi Yuseke, the worst punt at Sariaskhi High." He corrected with a grin and a nod.

"Kuwabara."

"The second worst punk of Sariaskhi High," the redheaded youth amended.

"And Keiko," Genkai finished.

"Yukimora," the brunette added with a bow, "it's a pleasure meeting you."

"As it is meeting you," raven replied. She already had a good measure on them. The two boys probably didn't work too hard at school and probably couldn't care less. They both had calluses across their knuckles, gibing the telltale sign of someone who often fought. The re head smelled of cats. That was obvious, and cat hair clung to him stubbornly. The girl was a sharp contrast. She seemed sweet-tempered and probably paid ore attention in class than the two boys. Her hands were soft, not the hands of a fighter.

Yukina walked in, carrying a tray laden with cups, "would anyone like some tea?" she inquired kindly as she offered the tray around.

Yuseke, Kuwabara, and Keiko had left an hour ago. Raven's travels were starting to catch up to her. Not only that, but her mind was still set to time in the United States. She was usually asleep by now. It wasn't long until she was yawning.

"Go take a nap, Raven." Genkai urged, "Anyone can tell you're done in."

The teenager nodded and retreated to her room and kicked off her shoes. As she slept, she started dreaming. Light flashed behind her eyes. They were after her again. The reason was unknown. "Hunters," she thought as she ran into the darkness, "why do they hunt?"

"It's in their natures," a voice, deep and menacing, yet kind, answered silently, "as it is your nature to run."

"I still don't understand," Raven complained.

"You will in time," the voice faded, as did the dream.

"What was that all about?" Raven, now wide-awake, asked the ceiling. She was tired but felt better than before. A soft knock sounded from her door. "Com in," Raven called with an inward sigh. So much for falling back asleep.

Yukina looked in. "Genkai said that if you're awake and up to it, there are a few people here she'd like you to meet," the young girl told the teenager.

"Define awake," Raven muttered as she rolled out of the comfortably warm bed. After dragging a brush through her knotted black hair, she walked back out into the main room.

"Ah, so you are awake," Genkai commented when she had caught sight of her granddaughter.

"Physically but not mentally," she murmured and hid a yawn behind her hand.

Genkai grinned crookedly at the remark. She turned her attention to two teenagers that sat in front of her. "This is my granddaughter, Raven," she stated to them, "Raven this is Minamino Shuuichi," she nodded at a tall red hared youth.

"I mainly go by Kurama," his voice was clam, level as he bowed, and his grass green eyes danced with hidden amusement.

"And Ryouki."

"It's a pleasure," the girl said. Black hair fell past her shoulders and red eyes looked Raven over.

"The pleasure's mine," Raven replied. Genkai struck up a conversation that they all could join in, even if it was just to argue and soon, Raven was discussing schools with Kurama. As she conversed, Raven kept glancing at Genkai, hoping to find out what school she'd be attending. Finally, the girl caught the old woman's eye.

"You'll have to choose a school," the grandmother said, "but if you want into the same one as Kurama, you'll have to take the entrance exam."

"It's not very difficult," the young man informed her. "From what you told me about your grades in you old school, you'll make it in easily."

It was something to consider. Raven would worry about it the next morning. As the guests left, Raven, Genkai, and Yukina settled down for a quiet night.

A/N: Well, that's it for part two. Hope you all enjoyed. Oh, and one more thing. I need a female character. I want height, hair color, eye color, personality, clothing style, race (demon, human, mix, etc.), who you want her to be paired with (if at all. Can't be Kurama, Hiei, or Shishi. No yaoi) and anything else I forgot. If I don't use yours, don't take it personally please. It could be someone else's was better than yours was, either that, or I just didn't like yours. In any case, review. Thanks.
