Roads Less Traveled: Conclusion
Shao Kahn sits on his throne of bones. His hands clasped before him and his chin resting softly on those hardened knuckles. His eyes looking down the entryway to his dark throne room but his vision is far away. Focused on the soft clatter of the chess pieces in his delicate game of absolute conquest of the 10 million worlds. He is acutely aware of the arrival of a Shadow Priest but gives no indication of that perception. The priest waits without a word or a gesture.
"It is done?"
The Shadow Priest nods softly.
The Emperor grins behind his mask.
"Go then. Send the family my condolences and make sure to dispatch another assassin."
The priest nods softly and shuffles off soundlessly.
"Again you amuse me Meander. That governor will not be easily replaced. Rebellions in Erkham will set me back for some time unless I get personally involved. And yet I cannot pull too much of my attention from the game with Quan Chi. So I will just have to let Erkham become a problem to be dealt with later."
The Emperor of Outworld rises and motions to a dark corner. A play of color and shadow heralds the appearance of the ninja assassin Reptile.
"Yesss my Emperor?"
"There is more to this situation than vendetta. Someone else is involved in this turn of events and I want to know whom. Do what you must Reptile. Kill whom you must. But I want the names of those involved before the fourth moon falls. Understood?"
The jade clad ninja bows and returns to the shadows that spawned him. Blending into the background and vanishing from sight.
"Well played. But now it's my move."
Shao Kahn strides to the balcony behind his throne and looks out over the blackened wastes that are Outworld. He opens his mind and touches the souls of those that reside in his capital city. He relishes the feeling of fear and terror that he feels. But suddenly the wave of subjugation is broken by a heart that holds only contempt and disobedience. It is a heart the Emperor knows all too well. And it is gone as suddenly as it was there. Kahn smiles. Greatly amused and even a little pleased.
"Now it is my move."
