Crystal Blue Sapphire Ice
Crystal blue sapphires stare up at me.
He's awake, finally.
I was beginning to worry, he'd been so sick.
If I lost him, I'm not sure what I'd do.
I suppose I could go with Tsume and Toboe,
but that just wouldn't seem right.
Somehow I get the feeling I'm supposed to protect him,
that it's my job to keep him safe.
Reality shows him as a snow white wolf.
He's little more than a pup really.
Maybe that's why, when he got sick....
it scared me.
Right now though, looking up at me, is a blue eyed boy.
This is his masquerade, a dark haired boy with ice blue eyes.
The rest of us hide this way as well, though none of us like it.
"Hige?" His voice is soft, quavering.
"Hey Kiba," I brush a few wayward strands of hair from his eyes.
"What happened?" He looks puppyish, confused like that.
Almost cute, "you've been sick. Gave me a good scare."
"I'm sorry." Now he looks almost frightened,
like he thinks I'm angry with him.
Now that I think about it, he's been whimpering in his sleep,
and tossing and turning under the covers, sounding so scared.
"Hey, it's all right Kiba-kun. Nothing to apologize for."
"You're not mad?" He really is scared.
"No, course I'm not." Even if I had been, it wouldn't
have lasted, not as pathetic as he looks.
"How could I be mad at you?" I ruffle his hair.
The poor thing's practically terrified,
though he relaxes a little at my reassurances.
"Why don't you get some sleep." I pull the blanket back over him.
"Promise not to leave?" He snuggles down under it.
"Promise. I'll be right here."
He sighs, "thanks."
I lean back in my chair, I really will stay.
He's mine now, no one else's.
I smile at him as he closes his eyes, and sit back to wait.
I'll watch over him, til he opens those limpid pools
of crystal blue sapphire ice again.
That's all she wrote. This time. I think it's cute. Well, next time I'm doin' Tsume and Toboe. School is in session and Professor Tsume's got a lot of teaching to do, judging by how little Toboe seems to know about being a wolf.
