Chapter 1 : The Scent
Inuyasha and Kagome wandered into a small clearing. The trees around the clearing cast a shadow over the two. Inuyasha walked out into the middle and looked around. He sank to the ground a sniffed.
"Someone's been here," he said.
"Can you tell who?"
Inuyasha looked at her and scowled.
"Gee, I don't know... maybe it was a giant rabbit," he shot back.
"Fine... you don't have to get touchy."
"Feh... touchy? We've been on this trip for three days and I've had to listen to your crap and you're saying I am TOUCHY?!"
Kagome looked away. Inuyasha got up and walked to the edge of the forest on the other side. He ran his hand through his hair and turned back.
"There are footprints here."
He pointed ot the ground between two trees. Kagome didn't look at them or even at him.
"Yeah... that's great. Just go off and find your giant rabbit!" she yelled.
"Hey, stupid! I was being sarcastic about the rabbit! Geez... for an educated girl, you sure are dumb."
"MY NAME IS KAGOME! Not stupid."
"I KNOW! Stupid just fits you better!"
Kagome didn't say anything. Perhaps she couldn't find anything to say back that would hurt Inuyasha. There wasn't much that could hurt him. Kagome grabbed some sticks and rocks and sat them on the ground. Inuyasha turned back to the footprints. Kagome picked up a rock and threw at him. The rock hit him square in the head. He stopped talking to himself and turned around.
"What... was... that?"
"A rock."
"I know it was a rock!"
"Then why did you ask?"
Inuyasha didn't say anything. Kagome felt that she had won. He couldn't think of anything to say! She chucked another rock at him. This time he turned and slashed at it, but he was too slow. The rock hit him in the head again. Kagome started laughing. She actually fell over and rolled around on the ground.
"Stupid woman.. Can't you see I am trying to work here?!"
"Yeah... you... are... hahahaha... working... hahahaha. Sure!"
Inuyasha turned back to the footprints and Kagome was still laughing. She calmed down alittle and stood up.
"We should move on," she said.
"Wait! These footprints belong to the person who left that scent," said Inuyasha.
"So... we should folow them?"
"There are only two. It looks like they flew away."
"Flew away?"
"Did I stutter? Yes... they flew away. There are recoil marks where they jumped into flight."
"So... we are looking for a demon?"
"Yeah... it looks like it."
Next Time: Inuyasha and Kagome run across a castle in the woods. Who owned it? Why did they build it in the woods? These are just some of the questions that Inuyasha and Kagome want to answer. But, could the adventure they have in the castle kill them? Find out in the next chapter of The Castle of Chiciro!
