GOTHIC MIRROR: CRIMSON, DARK, BLOOD, AND PAIN
(Vincent Valentine - FFVII)
This life of defeat and deceit
Pools blood around my feet;
Makes me spin a twirling dance
That ended in fatal romance.
Glass broken on the floor
Smiles from it a reflection
Of stone.
Crimson and black, colors of death;
Things I knew before.
Yet from this mirror shines
Her face, with nature she rhymes
In rhythm and in dance --
Now broken on the floor
A shattered chance.
You don't know about love
Until it knifes you from within;
Spills your blood until you're dry
And yet, you still thirst
For that emotion...
That emotion that you can never seek.
Snatched from my arms,
My side.
I will never love again
Until the end of time.
Crimson and blood
Mingled with Fate
Spun on her threads,
Snipped by her hate.
Pain and chance...
I never knew what life meant
Until I loved.
But betwixt us a raven cawed
Its bloody eyes
Designating us as pawns
In Destiny's game.
One moment together, with warmth and life
The next --
Destroyed, she and me
By a dominating strife.
Here now the mirror
Dark as night
Silent as stone
Lays shattered at my feet.
I know my story, know my past
Its intricacies
Its failures
Its curse...
Forever -- begone mirror of Fate!
You and me now both cursed
To stay in hell.
Hellfire burns while I'm alive --
Both of us --
Trapped in a gothic world
Where darkness and evil intertwine
Where demons and skeletons come alive
Where red and black both mean blood
Where life and hope don't live on.
FIN

(Author's Note: When I wrote this poem about Vincent's tragic past eons ago - I think about 6 or 7 years ago, FFVII was still relatively new to me. In a way, it still is. Vincent always struck me as a character that I could relate to, in that he is still human but sees himself as unable to overcome the demons of his past. I don't think he's just an angsty pretty-boy; I think his situation is more commonplace than people think. As for FFVII: Advent Children...Vincent is looking as depressed, forlorn, pretty, and tragic as ever. Glad to see him back.)
