This is my second fanfic I´m posting here... if you haven´t read the first one, please read "Kaleidoscope". Thanks a lot :-)

Merry stretched and opened his eyes. He was greeted by warm sunrays - it was a beautiful morning. He closed his eyes again and turned, to get out of his bed.

He opened his eyes again and found Pippin sitting right in front of his bed on the floor.

"Good morning Merry!", he greeted him cheerful.

"Mmh-morning.", Merry answered and sat up.

"Today´s my birthday!", Pippin exclaimed.

"Happy birthday, Pip.", Merry said and smiled. Then he rubbed his eyes. "How does it feel to be thirteen?"

"Great! I´ve got a huge birthday cake from Mom! It´s delicious. I saved you a piece!"

"You already had breakfast?"

"Yes, I was up very early."

"Obviously."

"Come on - won´t you give me my present now?"

"I told you I´d give it to you today."

"And it is t-o-d-a-y."

"This day, my dear cousin, has 24 hours.", he answered matter of factly.

"Pleeeease.", begged Pippin - looked at him with those big sad eyes. Merry sighed. Pippin knew exactly that he couldn´t resist when he begged him like this...

"After breakfast.", he said and got out of the bed.

"First breakfast?", Pippin asked.

"Yes, yes. My first breakfast and your second breakfast.", Merry answered.

"Then come on!", Pippin took Merrys hand and pulled him to the kitchen.

Merry had never seen Pippin eat that fast.

"You´re going to have stomachache later!", he said.

"I want my present - now."

"It´s nothing special, not like the Kaleidoscope you got from Frodo...", Merry said and took a bite from his piece of cake.

"But it´s from you!", Pippin answered and smiled.

Merry, touched by the words of his cousin, laid down the piece of cake and raised from the bench.

"I´m going to my room and get your present now. You´ll wait here."

Pippin smiled and nodded.

Merry returned with a little wrapped package.

"Happy birthday, Pippin."

He handed it to his cousin.

Pippin unwrapped it and his eyes grew wide.

"A scarf!"

"I asked my Mom to show me how to make it... the first lines are made by me... but it looks horrible.", Merry explained and showed the failed part to him. "Mom then finished it for me."

"It is very pretty! Thank you! I wished for a new one because I lost my old one last winter!"

"I know, Pippin.", Merry answered and smiled.

"I´ll never loose that one!", Pippin said and hugged his older cousin.
