A Job Well Done
Anthony Cimino strolled confidently down the long corridor, stooping only
to chat with a few of the girls in the office pool. Tony was in a very good mood
this morning, not just because he had just finished eating but because after years
of no contracts, there was finally fresh business.
He stepped into Ramón Val' Braun's office, looked around at the two
strangers sitting there then turned to smile at his boss.
"Sooo… Val, you needed me for something?"
"I need you to sit down and shut up" Val' Braun snapped, irritation in his
voice. "And don't call me Val"
As Tony slid into his seat, his boss continued.
"Tony this is Melinda Dalton", said waving his hands over to the blond
sitting to Tony's right. "She's our resident Slayer. And of course you know Eric
McRae from you days in the Initiative. Everyone this is Anthony Cimino, vampire
with a soul"
Tony nodded and caught the manila enveloped that Val' Braun tossed to
them.
"These contain you mission. Study them carefully and please bear in mind
that this needs to be done quickly. We may have become sidetracked due to
restructuring but we always fulfill our contracts." Val' Braun leaned back in his
chair. "You're our best agents, but be careful on this one. Dismissed."
His earpiece crackled to life.
"Bishop, this is Knight are the pieces in check?"
He could feel the excitement in Melinda's voice over the earpiece and
wondered if all Slayers felt this way before a fight. "This is Bishop reporting
check, I repeat I have check. How is your game going?"
"The pawn is in play, calculating checkmate in three minute on my mark.
Mark!"
Tony "the pawn" Cimino ran for his life. True, he was an undead creature
of the night with preternatural strength and Special Forces training but he knew
his limits, and if he stopped he was dead. He raced up to the apartment building
he pursuers hot on his heels. Glancing back he managed to see Melinda nod
from across the street. He started counting down the minute in his head.
At thirty seconds and counting he was on the third floor. At forty seconds,
the target grabbed his shirt. At fifty seconds, he was shirtless and halfway to the
window.
At the same time that Tony was flying across the street propelled by both
his momentum and the massive explosion that took out nearly every floor of the
building. Eric McRae was packing his sniper rifle after making sure the target was
in fact terminated. His earpiece cracked to life again.
"Checkmate"
"Checkmate", he replied.-----------------------------------------One Week Later--------------------------------------------Spike stared at the letter he just received.
Mr. the Bloody
You will be pleased to learn that your contract has been fulfilled. Because
of our delay, we have added the witch as a bonus. Thank you for your patience
and our apologies for the delay.
The Order of Taraka---------------------------------------------The End-----------------------------------------------Well that was fun.
I wrote this out of frustration over a few things, namely the uber Buffy and Willow
that dominate fanfics. I am also wary of the idea that every single Slayer and
Vampire with a soul would be on the side of good. Then I remembered the Order
and the way this supposedly unstoppable organization that would just keep
coming until the target was dead suddenly stopped after sending three
assassins.
Anyway let me know what you think.
