Chapter 3. There, then gone
"What should we do?" Arwen said.
"Do?" Legolas said, standing up and dropping the arrow, "I'm going to ride to Mirkwood immediately. My father needs me."
"Legolas, if you go, you could be playing right into the hands of this enemy."
"If I don't go, Mirkwood could be destroyed. And it's my task to prevent that from happening."
"I'm coming with you." Estel said.
"Estel," Legolas started.
"Legolas, you saved my life. I've got to repay you somehow."
"Not by killing yourself!" Legolas yelled unnecessarily.
"That's enough." Elrond broke in. "Estel, you will stay. Legolas, I will send some warriors with you. Go get dressed in traveling clothes. The warriors will be ready to leave in ten minutes."
"Hannen lle, Heruamin Elrond." Legolas said, running out of the room. [Thank you, My Lord Elrond]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Legolas climbed on his horse, Märon, a dapple gray. Twenty-one warriors mounted their steeds, all white. Every elf was dressed in a dark blue, almost black cloak, with the hood up, covering their faces. Their bows were strapped on their backs along with quivers and blades.
Legolas looked around. Night was falling and they would be traveling maybe five days and nights to get to Mirkwood. It might even take longer.
Arwen, Elladan and Elrohir approached Legolas, who leaned over and gave Arwen a hug. Then, he clapped his hands on the twin's shoulders. He didn't want to leave. He had just arrived. What saddened him more was that Estel hadn't come to say goodbye.
"Manke naa Estel?" Legolas asked Arwen. [Where is Estel?]
Arwen looked down.
"He was angry that you were leaving without him and locked himself in his room."
"Tell him I said goodbye and I'm sorry that he couldn't come along. I hope to see him again soon."
"I'll be sure to tell him. Namaarie, Legolas." [Goodbye]
"Namaarie, Arwen." Legolas said and with a nod to the twins and Elrond, he yelled, "Kila amin Rhûn!" to the warriors, then, he kicked Mä ron's flanks and rode out of Rivendell, the riders behind him. [Follow me East!]
Arwen cried as her best friend rode away, looking back one last time as if to say, "Don't forget about Estel." Arwen knew that the Elf and Child shared a bond to strong that it hurt them emotionally to be far away from each other.
Elladan and Elrohir walked sadly into the palace. Arwen followed them shortly afterward and walked to Estel's room. She needed someone to talk to and she wanted to tell the boy what Legolas had said.
She reached his door and knocked.
"Estel?" She called softly. She knocked again.
"Estel, please open the door. I want to speak with you. Don't make me open the door by force."
She sighed and turned the doorknob.
"Estel, I'm coming in." But when she opened the door, he was nowhere to be seen.
"Aragorn?" Arwen called again. The window was open and the wind blew a piece of paper to
Arwen's feet. She leaned over and picked it up. It was labeled 'Family' in Estel's handwriting. She opened the letter. It read:
'Dear Ada, Elladan, Elrohir and Arwen,
I have gone with Legolas. I was going to sneak away, but I didn't want to leave without saying goodbye first, so-- goodbye. I'll come back, but right now, Legolas needs me and I must help him. Don't worry about me.
Namaarie,
Estel.'
Arwen gasped and ran to her father's study.
"Ada! Ada!" She yelled, bursting in on him and her brothers. "Estel is gone!"
"What?" They all said, standing up and walking to her.
"Here," Arwen handed her father the letter and he and the twins read it, all with growing expressions of wordiness on them. Elrond looked at his children.
"Do you know what this means?" he asked.
"Yeah," Elrohir said, "Estel is not very good at running away secretly."
"Elrohir! This is your brother we are talking about! Don't make jokes now!"
"Sorry."
"You two must go after them."
"We'll get right on it, father." Elladan said and the twins walked out of the room.
"Arwen," Elrond said, "Ride swiftly to Lothlórien. Do not stop. Raise the alarm on the attacks
on Mirkwood. Stay there."
"Yes, Ada. What are you going to do?"
"I must stay here and protect Imladris. We might be next."
"Yes, Ada. Namaarie." Arwen gave her father a quick hug and ran from the room.
A few miles away, Estel covered his face and hair with the hood of his cloak, a bow and quiver clasped to his back and Legolas's borrowed sword under the cloak, out of sight. He and Legolas-- unknowing of the child's presence-- rode to Mirkwood, the stars overhead blinking dangerously, whispering softly that evil was right on their doorstep and they were riding to it.
What is going to happen? What is the evil? What will happen to Estel? What will happen to Leggy? Why am I writing such short chapters? Why is the sky blue? Why to cats meow? Why can't I meet Orlando Bloom? WHY AM I ASKING ALL THESE STUPID QUESTIONS? Please review! I must have reviews! Do not forget to review! See ya!
Trinityelf- Hola amiga! AAAAA! NO SPANISH!!! Actually, I do kinda picture Arwen's son as a younger Estel. That would be funny! I thought it would be interesting to make him eat a purple leaf. I'm just lucky I didn't have to name it. So, from now on, it will be called 'The purple leaf.' Thanks! I hope to see you later!
XxgemxX- Thanks! I'm glad you like this story! It always warms my heart to see that other people enjoy my work. I also read a little of your story… *imitates Jack Sparrow* That's interesting. Have you seen Pirates of the Caribbean? It's a great movie!
The Grey Havens (or Aegolas)- Thanks! Don't worry, my goal is to keep posting. This is my favorite story out of the two I have on fanfiction at the moment. I cried when I wrote some of the later chapters.
Niko- You've taken archery lessons? That is so cool! I want to try archery and fencing. They are really cool and I want to give them a shot. Sigh… my friend has fencing lessons and I'm trying to get her to tape the lessons and then help me out with it. Thanks a bunch!
aknightofni- Orlando Bloom! I can't wait 'till Ned Kelly and Troy come out! They look really good and I think he actually TALKS in them! Are you gonna see them if you can?
The evil witch queen- Thanks for the info! Yeah, this story has been tweaked a little, like, originally, Arwen would be in Lothló rien right now, or the fact that I don't think Legolas was the one to teach Estel to shoot a bow and arrow, so there are some things that are not realistic to the book. Thanks for pointing that out, though. To tell you the truth, I didn't know that piece of info myself, but that's what fanfiction.net is about. To learn things. Thanks for pointing it out and I hope you enjoy the rest of the story. If anything else bugs you, let me know. That way, I don't make those mistakes in future stories. Namaarie!
Thank you all for reviewing! You've made me one happy person! HAPPY! *sighs and pokes her Legolas bobble head* (You know, Trin, the one Crane gave me) *pokes it again and giggles*
Author Note: Ignore the bold print at the end of chapter 2. That was because I had deleted the story and posted it again and that was from before.
Oh, and one more thing before I go… *starts to grovel* PLEASE SEND REVIEWS!
