Well, I think im ready to start this fic again I've got some ideas, but I don't know how to get them started. Guess I should just start writing.
Oh! And a warning for the timid, Randa cusses, a lot. She's a Gerudo sailor-mouth! But don't growl at me, it's her personality....that rhymed .
Link unhooked his shield from his back and lay down in the red dirt by the water's edge, using his shield for a pillow. Although he had slept last night, he was exhausted. He was always exhausted lately, especially in the morning, like he had been running all night instead of sleeping. Link sighed as he looked out at the fast moving water. What was he going to do? He thought maybe he should write to Zelda and explain as best as he could, the poor girl deserved some relief.
"No," he said aloud. Besides, she would forget even she saw him soon and probably forget about him entirely before long.
"Who are you saying no to? Your imaginary friends?" came a voice from behind him, it was loaded with sarcasm. Link turned and saw Randa, the stable girl and master thief extraordinaire. "You're hopeless Lyatt. I keep telling you, if you don't stop talking to yourself, you're going to go mental,"
"At least I can keep some words to myself, unlike certain pests I know," Link smirked. Randa was fifteen, three years younger than Link. The Gerudo was gorgeous, like her sister, Saphra. But there was a difference between the sisters, Randa was a major tomboy. She could ride harder and faster, shoot, steal, and cuss better than any boy. She would never admit it because of her reputation (and because her sister would kill her) but she had a slight crush on Link. Randa turned her sun colored face to the Hylean and returned his smirk, sticking her tongue out for added mockery.
"So, what are you doing out here all by yourself? Waiting for Saphra?" She asked, taking a seat in the dust next to Link.
"No, the leader summoned her again. I'm just enjoying the river, and a little thing normal people call peace and quiet."
"Never heard of it," Randa laughed before going off into a long embellishment of a story about how she "beat the shit" out of the new stable boy earlier that morning. Link pretended to be listening, but wished she would leave, he had a lot of figuring out to do.
"....Yea Lyatt, you should have seen how that wuss cried. I whipped him good. Bet I broke his nose. Hey, I bet I could take you....Oh! I just remembered what I came over here for!" Randa talked so quickly, Link didn't catch what she said for a moment so he was confused when she thrust a slip of paper under his nose. "What's this?" She asked incriminatingly with her free hand on her hip.
"I... was... just about to ask you the same... thing," Link replied slowly, cocking an eyebrow at her.
"I found this in Epona's saddle bag," She held it up so she could read it and recited, "Dearest Zelda, I have to tell you this somehow," she quoted "....I don't know the rest of these words. Anyway, who is Zelda and why is she your 'dearest'?" Link took the paper and looked at it in confusion. He hadn't written to Zelda in forever, and didn't remember writing her another letter, especially not one like this! Surely Randa was playing a joke....but... she... didn't know anything about Zelda and him, she had only just met him six months ago and didn't know anything about his past.
"You found this on Epona?" Link questioned seriously, Randa nodded, now she was even more curious. She hung on his shoulders as he read the letter in a perplexed panic.
Dearest Zelda,
I have to tell you this somehow. Please don't cry, but this has to be said. I cannot carry this weight on my back anymore. I only wish I wasn't giving the burden to you..... Zelda, I'm not who you think I am....
The words cut off at that point into something unintelligible, like a two-year-old child's scribbles, which traversed haphazardly across the page. He stared at the parchment for a moment then turned to Randa. "You sure this was in my saddle bag?"
"Yes dammit! Now tell me what this is about, or I'm gonna tell Saphra. You know how jealous she gets, she'll chew your ass out,"
"Would it be so hard for you not to cuss?" Link asked, becoming annoyed at her bold rudeness.
"Ha-ha, wuss ass mamma's boy doesn't want me to cuss! Am I soiling your virgin ears? Now tell me about this broad, im serious!" Link shook his head slowly. Randa never ceased to amaze him. On a more serious note...where did this letter come from? That was his handwriting, but he didn't write that, he was sure. He's not who she thinks he is? What was that supposed to mean?
"If you don't start talking, im gonna go find Saphra and tell her you're cheating on her!" Randa leaned off of Link's shoulders and sat in front of him, cross legged with her hands on her knees. Link sighed again and decided to tell her. He might as well, the truth was bound to get out sometime, why not now?
"Zelda is, ah, was my......girlfriend. Before I went off to the war. But I haven't seen her in a year, its over between us." He explained, trying to sound like it was no big deal.
"You-u-u are ly-ing to me-e-eee." Randa sang, rocking back on her tailbone and throwing her hands to the sky. How could they always tell?!!
'I guess it takes a liar to know one,' Link thought. "Ok, ok....I saw her last night. But-" He was cut off by a scandalous cry from his inquisitor.
"YOU DOG! OH YOU PIG!" Randa yelled dramatically, standing and pointing a convicting forefinger under his nose. "Oh, just wait until Saphra hears about this. You're dead, my friend." Link held up his hands in attempt to quiet her and opened his mouth to defend himself but she interrupted again. "Don't even try to get out of this," And with that, she turned on her heel which sent her red hair flying, and went to look for her sister. Link called for her to stop and let him explain, but she simply held up her hand. Frustrated, Link ran and tackled the girl to the ground, grumbling,
"Let me explain, you brat!" Randa looked up from the red earth at his panicked and angry face. Fighting every urge to knock his face in, she lay prone until he stood from her back and helped her out of the dirt.
"Ok, explain. It better be good or I'll kick your ass for Saphra," She warned, and allowed him to lead her back to the river. He sat on his shield and she in front of him, hanging on his every word....
Cliff hanger! Yay! I know, im evil .
But you just have to review in order to know what Link's going to say right?
Now for some random ramblings...
Do you think I need to tone Randa down a bit? I don't think so, but some people might be offended by her, um, brassiness. I think my writing has become a slight bit more daring since I started (I dare you to go read the last chapter of my yaoi fic =,,=) You see, before, I wouldn't dream of actually writing a yaoi, or cussing in a story. I even thought it was very improper for me to make Saria and Link kiss in Saria's Wish XX I guess my writing has to grow up with me. But I don't wanna grow up!!!!! Ha, yes I do silly-willy.
