Chapter 1:

The Boy Named Link

Something was wrong.

He opened his eyes in fear. Fear of not knowing anything up to this point. A shaky hand went to his forehead as he tried to recall anything that happend.

He couldn't.

All he remembered was an incredibly bright light and a low humming. Not a melodic hum, but the kind you hear when there's dead silence. It drapes over you and blankets you until you fall asleep with your ears going mad.

But all that was over now.

Now all that was replaced by extreme confusion. What the had happened to him? How long has it been? Where was he, and where is he now? More importantly, who is he?

Link.

The name flashed across his mind as if he had been stricken. Minor relief flooded him, at least he knew his name. But how far would knowing his name get him?

He slowly sat up, the sun gave him a great feeling of warmth, something he hadn't felt in a long time.

The young boy was sitting in a field of grass, dotted with trees. In the distance he could hear the talking and laughter of a young teenager.

At this Link stood. He turned to see the open gates of a marketplace. More laughter filled his ears. He wanted so bad to rush in there and scream.

Scream words of bewilderment. Scream questions at the innocent people. Force his problems upon them. He wanted answers.

But that wouldn't be the case. For the boy that Link heard came billowing out of the gates backwards. Sending Link flying and landing straight on his back with a groan.

He heard the kid mutter a string of curses as he rolled across the green. Quickly recovering, he jumped to his feet, shook his head free of dirt, and bended down to aid Link.

"Aye man, sorry 'bout that, but you really should watch were you decide to not go, standing that is. Some people don't have any wits, you could've gotten hurt."

Even more confused by what he just heard he just nooded and stood.

"Alec Kralsin," the boy said, offering his hand.

He shook it and replied, "Link."

Alec continued to shake his hand and strained his head a bit, waiting for a last name to come. Finally he gave up.

"So Link, what the bloody hell are you doing just standing around here?"

If only he knew.
