When Jack got promoted, Sam was there to put the star on his uniform, seeing as the President was out of town. They'd smiled at each other, and some silent communication had passed in the look they shared.

Of course, she'd been even more stunned when Jack had moved her to the place that he had just been standing in.

"Major Carter, is it my honor to promote you to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. I am also here-by giving you full command of SG-1." Hammond's booming voice had stated.

The smile couldn't have grown bigger as the eagle was placed on her jacket.

She'd waved him goodbye as he stepped through the 'gate, about to take full command of the Alpha Site.

He'd been gone for two weeks now. She missed him pretty badly too. They hadn't done anything together really since the promotion. She and the guys had helped him close up the house, but that had been it.

It was a Sunday morning, and she had the day off.

She was sound asleep in bed still at eleven when she was awoken by the bed sinking under the weight of someone sitting on the edge.

Lazily opening her eyes, she was caught off guard by seeing Jack sitting there, a smile playing on his lips.

"Jack?"

"Morning."

"What are you doing here?"

"I convinced Hammond to give me the next forty eight hours off."

"How did you manage that?"

"I told him what I was planning on doing."

"Which is..."

He didn't say anything, simply pulled her out of bed and walked her down to the dining room.

There, stretched out before her eyes, was a full breakfast, along with a single red rose sitting on the table at the place where he sat her.

"Eat up."

"Jack..."

"Come on Sam, make an old man happy."

"You're not old."

"I feel like it."

"You're not though."

"Well, thank you."

"You're welcome."

They ate together in silence sharing a smile every once in a while.

When they finished up, Jack took Sam's hand and led her out to the backyard where they sat down together on her porch swing.

"So what are you really doing here Jack?"

"I came to ask you something."

"What?"

He pulled a small box out of his pocket and handed it to her.

Carefully opening the box, she gasped when she saw what lay within.

A simple ring with a small diamond and sapphires on either side made up the contents.

"Jack, it's beautiful."

"But not nearly as much as you."

"Is this what I think it is?"

"Samantha Carter, will you do me the greatest honor of all and become Samantha O'Neill?"

"YES!" she tearfully exclaimed.

They kissed then, and when they pulled apart, he kissed away the single tear that was making its way down her cheek.

"Was it what you thought it was?"

"Yes, it was."

He took her hand then and led her into the house.

They were smiling all the way to the bedroom.

Teal'c and Daniel found them sleeping in each other's arms later that night.

"Perhaps we should leave them alone Daniel Jackson."

"It appears Jack was successful."

"Indeed."

"Let's get out of here."

"Indeed."

When they left the room, Sam popped an eye open.

"So much for keeping a secret for a little while."

"Go back to sleep Sam."
