Avenging Leila
Matthew stood in the shadows, watching Jaffar. Their night in Ostia was turning out to be the perfect opportunity to avenge Leila. He had thought the plan through, but he knew attacking the Black Fang's famed Angle of Death was a death wish, although he had to try. Kill and avenge Leila or die and be reunited with her. Either outcome looked nice. Of course he could survive and Jaffar could get away, but Nino was holding Jaffar with them. Matthew breathed in. The set of stairs to the castle was before Jaffar. He and Nino were talking, well Nino was, Jaffar was silently watching her. The warm night air filled him with comfort, and the moon shone bright against the sky, torches in all corners lit and making the castle glow orange as if it were morning. It was just past the evening meal and thus would provide him the energy he needed. If he recalled correctly Jaffar had not been at that dinner. He smiled wryly as Nino ran off to some unknown place. This was it, Matthew had to act now.
Matthew gracefully ran forward without a sound, preparing to send himself and Jaffar over the stairs. He had the element of surprise, he was going to kill Jaffar. Just as Matthew was in arms length Jaffar turned towards Matthew.
With a cry Matthew lowered his head and threw himself onto Jaffar and the two tumbled down the flight of stairs. Matthew tried to coordinate his rolling to reduce his amount of injuries.
As they landed Jaffar was thrown off of Matthew. The thief reached for his small sword, knowing the assassin would strike soon.
Before Matthew could grip his sword he felt a heavy weight on his frame. Jaffar was kneeling on his stomach digging his knee into his gut. His hands where wrapped tightly around Matthew neck and increasingly growing tighter. Matthew couldn't breath. Ah Damn!
Jaffar seemed to relish the thief's pain.
"Stupid thief, you know I kill so easy, yet you attack me anyway?" Matthew tried to wriggle free. He reached his dagger and quickly stuck it into Jaffar's gut. Jaffar winced and Matthew took this opportunity to connect his fist with the assassin's jaw.
Matthew jumped to his feet and unsheathing his sword lunging at the assassin once more. For you, Leila.
Jaffar unsheathed his sword as well and with practiced easy connected it with Matthew's face. Matthew fell back, screaming.
"Foolish boy." Matthew covered the cut with his hand and with the free one pushed himself up. He eyed Jaffar's back as he walked away. Foolish assassin.
Matthew ran forward and jumped onto Jaffar's back. In one swift motion he pulled his sword across the assassin's throat and the white line turned red as blood poured forth from the wound. Matthew let go and watched as Jaffar crumbled to the ground. He planted Jaffar's daggers into his back and walked away satisfied. Revenge felt so good.
Leila, I hope you're watching.
