I still do not own Yu Yu Hakusho. I do own Jenni, the "Fire Gun" and the basic plot to this story. Continue reading!

~*~ Chapter 5: Next on the list. ~*~

"Well, I guess you'll just have to do the alternative," Kurama said.

"Which is...?" Jenni asked.

"You have to show everyone your neck, Jenni." Kurama grinned evilly as Jenni glared and tilted her head to the side.

"What happened?" Keiko asked as she touched Jenni's neck.

"I cut myself on something in there," Jenni lied easily. "It's nothing to fret over."

Kurama frowned at how easily she lied. 'She's not supposed to lie!' He thought to himself. Then he realized. He hadn't said anything about she couldn't lie and Jenni took advantage of that. 'D*** it! Why couldn't I have been more specific?!'

'Because you didn't think she could lie so easily, baka kitsune,' Hiei's voice said in his head.

'Shut up and GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!' Kurama snapped back at him. Kurama was NOT happy.

"Keiko, truth or Dare?" Hiei asked.

"Ummm....Truth?" Keiko said, uncertain.

"Do you mind the fact that Yusuke has a job as Spirit Detective?" Hiei asked, smirking slightly.

"Not really. Only when he has a case and doesn't tell me. *CoughDark Tournamentcough*" Keiko glared at Yusuke and sighed. "Botan, don't you think we should go to bed now? It's already 11 and we have school and training tomorrow."

"Alright! Off we go, then!" Botan said, STILL happy. Jenni yawned as she stood up.

Jenni walked to her room with Hiei behind her. She changed and settled into bed, feeling Hiei get in beside her.

"Mine," she heard Hiei mutter as he put a protective arm around Jenni's waist. She snuggled into him and fell asleep seconds later.

~*~ In the morning ~*~

Jenni woke up to Hiei shaking her. "Mmmm.....5 more minutes, mommy," she muttered as she rolled over.

Hiei ripped the blankets off the bed and was rewarded with Jenni's surprised yelp.

"What the heck was that for, Hiei??" Jenni asked, sitting up. She felt a slight twinge of pain in her neck and felt the mark.

"Training, moron. Time to get up," Hiei said, smiling slightly as Jenni yawned.

"Alright. Lemme get changed, Hiei," Jenni muttered. She went over to the closet and pulled out some black, lose-fitting clothes.

She changed, had some breakfast, and walked outside with her sword on her belt. She looked around for Hiei, then heard a rustle in the bushes next to her.

Jenni drew her sword and blocked on attack from the side. She followed the person's every move. She realized it wasn't Hiei when the demon tried to plunge it's sword into her heart.

Jenni jumped over the demon, landed, and readied her sword for the batojutsu. She attacked, and the demon was killed.

Jenni was panting slightly and wondered where Hiei was when she felt someone's arms snake around her waist. She tried to turn around, but the person's arms tightened.

"You made quick work of that demon," Hiei's voice said in her ear. Then, she turned around and saw Hiei, smiling at her.

Jenni smiled back and put her head on his chest. Her neck felt warm around the place where Hiei had marked her. "Hiei?"

"Hn?"

"Why is the mark so warm?"

"Because, it's a sign that you are already claimed and that no-one is supposed to touch you. It's warm all the time, as is the mark of any fire demon, but especially when I'm close to you," Hiei explained, putting his hand on her neck.

Jenni smiled. "So, how long does the mark last?"

"As long as I'm alive. It will also be there in your demon form." Hiei kissed her. "We should get training."

"D***. I was hoping that you wouldn't say that." Jenni sighed and they went off to practice.

"Summon your Rose Whip. The only way to get good at it is learning the hard way," Hiei said ash Jenni summoned her Rose Whip.

She blocked attacks, dodged, parried, and attacked for the next 5 and a half hours with Hiei. Then, Hiei insisted that she get something to eat and they returned to training after that.

This time, Hiei decided to train her with using her flame manipulation. He had a small black fire going.

"I want you to put this out using your spirit energy," Hiei said to Jenni's questioning look. She nodded, and tried to do so. The flamed vanished. "Now, summon them again."

Jenni did this and practiced other typed of fire control for the next 6 hours.

Hiei stopped Jenni, but she was being very stubborn about going inside.

"I can...(pant) keep...going....(puff) Come on....(Huff)...one more try, Hiei......(groan)," Jenni said, leaning on her sword for support.

Hiei shook his head. "No. If you use any more energy, you'll faint. We can't have that happening, can we? Besides, if a demon were to attack you in this condition, you'd lose. Badly," Hiei said logically.

"Fine," Jenni said with a sigh. She, somehow or other, managed to get inside without incident. She stumbled slightly, but made it to the living room and fell on the couch. Her legs were dangling over the arm of the arm of the chair, and her upper body was on the couch. She didn't bother to move. She did, however, hear a door open, then close, and felt someone sit down beside her and put her head in their lap.

"Hn. Baka. I could have helped you," Hiei said as he stroked her hair.

"Yeah, well. My pride wouldn't allow it. Hope you can excuse me," Jenni said playfully.

"Of course," Hiei said, smiling slightly. There was silence for a few moments. Then, Hiei got up and went into the kitchen.

A few minutes later, Hiei brought out a bowl of something and chopsticks.

"Arigato," Jenni said as she sat up and started to eat the ramen. "Mmm...beef."

Hiei chuckled as he watched her as she ate. When she was done, she set the bowl down on the table and made to get up. Hiei surprised her by picking her up and carrying her to her room.

Jenni smiled and patted the bed next to her. Hiei sat down and stayed there as Jenni moved under the covers.

Just as she was about to fall asleep, Jenni asked, "Aren't you going to sleep, Hiei?"

Hiei shook his head and replied, "I don't need to sleep. You do. So go to sleep." Hiei kissed her gently on the lips and stayed sitting beside her.

~*~ Dream ~*~

Jenni was running through a forest. She stopped for breath for a couple of seconds, then continued. She ran all of the way to her house, then practically flew in the door.

She found her possessions scattered, everything knocked over and ruffled.

She went into her father's room, took one look in there, and gasped.

There, her father lay on the ground, with a sword through his stomach and his blood pooling all over the floor. Jenni choked on a sob and fell to her knees.

"No," she moaned quietly to herself. "Why me? Why now?" She collapsed on the floor, sobbing.

~*~ End Dream ~*~

Jenni woke up and sat bolt upright, startling Hiei. He nearly fell off the bed, but grabbed the bed post so he wouldn't.

"What happened??" Hiei asked gently, crawling over to sit beside Jenni. She shook her head. Hiei pulled her into his lap. "What happened?" He asked again.

Jenni had silent tears running down her face. "My father......Hiei, I have to go home. NOW!" Jenni pleaded.

Hiei nodded and picked her up. He jumped out the window and sped off to her house.

When he got there, Jenni practically flew inside. Everything looked the same as in the dream. Jenni rushed into her father's room and gasped.

There was her father, in the same position as the dream. His blood pooled all over the floor.

Jenni collapsed on the floor, crying. Hiei came in and saw what happened. He bent over and pulled Jenni into a hug.

"Shhh...It's alright. It's alright. Come on, let's go back to the temple," Hiei said, a comforting sort of voice.

Jenni nodded, still crying, and allowed Hiei to carry her back to the temple.

When they got back, Genkai was at the entrance.

"What happened?" Genkai asked, looking at Jenni.

"Jenni had a premonition-like thing (Okay, that sucked, but I couldn't think of anything else! It's 7 in the morning on Saturday for me, folks!) that showed her....something she probably won't want to talk about. Now, her father is dead as well," Hiei said, setting Jenni on her feet.

Tas darted out of the house and jumped onto Jenni's shoulder. He rubbed against her, purring loudly, trying to sheer her up.

It didn't work. Jenni's eyes remained dull and emotionless. Her cheeks were damp from crying. She didn't respond to anything at all.

"That makes my entire family, except for Andrew," Jenni finally said. "Now, I wouldn't be surprised if he died, or was killed as well. It's almost as if someone is trying to keep me away from everyone, killing anyone that I get close to."

The whole day, she just sat in the living room, staring blankly at the wall.

When Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Kurama came over to try to help cheer her up, she merely looked away, still not acting like she normally would.

"Look, you can't go around moping forever!" Yusuke said angrily at last. "He died. Get over it. It happens."

Jenni turned to him. "Have you had every single member of your family killed? You still have something to live for. I don't. Not anymore."

Yusuke glared at her. "Listen! You can't go around moping about you father's death forever! Try to find something else to do. Train, play with your cat, do something! Just DON'T sit there all day!"

Hiei was about to retort when Jenni's spirit energy levels shot through the roof.

There was now a slightly evil gleam in Jenni's eyes. "So, you want a fight, Detective? You got one!"

Jenni and Yusuke moved extremely fast. It was a little bit of trouble to keep up with all of their punches and kicks.

Eventually, both were panting. Jenni sat down from her fighting stance.

"Thanks, Yusuke," she said, looking up at him. He smiled and gave her the thumbs-up. She returned both.
