~*~ Chapter 6: The discovery ~*~

Jenni sat there, panting while Yusuke had his hands on his knees.

"That was new," Hiei said finally. "Jenni, where did you learn to fight like that?"

"Partly from my brother, Andrew, and partly from running into thugs a lot. I've earned a bit of a reputation, but I'm still not close to Urameshi's." Jenni grinned. "However, if I can beat Kuwabara in a fight, then I can be right up next to him!" Everyone else facefaulted at her words.

"What are you talking about??" Hiei asked.

"Well, Yusuke is the most feared person in all of Tokyo. I'm one of the most feared, but if I beat Kuwabara, then I'll only be one step behind Urameshi," Jenni explained.

"Why do you WANT a reputation?!?!" Yusuke asked.

"'Cause, you told me to do something other than mope around all day. Well, I set a goal and I'm going to reach it. But I should probably train a bit first. So, Kuwabara......What do you say?" Jenni asked, looking very evil at that moment.

"It's against my code to fight girls!!" Kuwabara said.

Jenni snorted. "To h*ll with your code! Just fight me tomorrow, baka!"

"No!! It's against my code and I'm not listening to anything that you say!!" Kuwabara said, turning away and crossing his arms over his chest.

"Like I said, forget your d*mn code and just fight me tomorrow, coward!" Jenni had hit a nerve.

"I. Am. NOT. A. Coward," Kuwabara ground out between clenched teeth, obviously furious.

"Then prove it and fight me tomorrow," Jenni goaded, still grinning evilly.

"Fine. Come on, Urameshi. Let's go practice," Kuwabara said, dragging poor Yusuke out the door with him.

"You realize that Kuwabara will kill you tomorrow, right?" Kurama asked, looking faintly amused.

Jenni smirked. "No, he won't. If I can keep up the rapid punches and kicks, then I can win. Also, I will not be the one blinded by rage. I planned all of this. I'll live."

Hiei sighed. "Are you always like this?"

"Nope," Jenni said, shaking her head. "Only when I feel really evil. Did you know that I planned all of this?"

"WHAT?!?!"

"Yep. I've been observing Yusuke and Kuwabara for the last few days. One definite way to get them angry is to get at their pride. So, that's what I did," Jenni said, trying, and failing, to look innocent.

Hiei sighed. "You can be a real trouble maker, you know that?"

Jenni smiled and nodded. "Well, I think that I'm going to bed. See ya in the morning."

Jenni walked to her bed and settled into it, only to feel someone laying next to her in the bed, half over her. Her emerald eyes shot open and were met with ruby ones that stared down at her. "Hello, Hiei."

"Hn," Hiei said and kissed her. She submitted to him almost immediately.

"Goodnight, Jenni."

"'Night."

~*~ Yume (Dream) ~*~

Kit was looking around as she walked through a forest. She seemed wary of something. Then, a black blur right behind her made her spin around.

Hiei stood there, frowning at her. "I told you, fox. You are mine now. Get used to it and live with it. I'm not letting you go."

Hiei snaked his arms around her waist while she struggled to get out of his grasp. She finally submitted when he covered her lips with his.

Hiei picked her up and flickered back to his home. It was rather small, but roomy enough so that they could fit inside comfortably.

Kit soon fell asleep in Hiei's arms while Hiei smiled down at her tenderly. (Okay, the first person to guess who Kit is gets....a Kurama plushie!!)

~*~ End dream ~*~

Jenni sat up suddenly, or tried to. Hiei's arms were around her. She tried to escape Hiei's grasp, but couldn't. She tried wiggling, pulling herself out, slipping in between his arms, and several others.

Hiei finally woke up about five minutes later and he saw Jenni trying to get out of his grasp, so he loosened his grip enough so that she wouldn't have much trouble getting out.

"Arigato," Jenni said, slipping out and going to the bathroom. Hiei sat up and watched the door knob move, then Jenni came out. She was wearing denim pants that were navy blue and a navy blue shirt with three black foxes in it. "Let's go!"

Hiei and Jenni walked into the kitchen to see Kurama and Yukina.

"Finally up, I see," Kurama said. "Have a good sleep, Jenni?" He tried to look innocent, but failed do to the mischievous glint in his eyes.

"Shut up, fox boy. Or should I warm up before I go kill Kuwabara?" Jenni asked, an evil glint in her eyes.

"Save it for the baka. I'll deal with the fox later," Hiei said, Kurama's death written all over his face.

"If you say so, Hiei," Jenni said, sitting down and turning to Kurama. "So, how are you dealing with school?"

"I told them you were sick and had to stay home for a while. I have your homework, by the way," Kurama said, handing over a small stack of papers. "For this week."

Jenni groaned. "If there is one thing that I hate, it is homework. Takes time. I don't like spending time on this stuff that is extremely easy. Oh, Kurama, do we have any essays or projects?"

"One essay in English, which should be easy for you, and a project in Biology. You got paired with me, so you should do fine," Kurama said, smiling.

"Alrighty then. We should probably go meet Yusuke and Kuwabara if we're going to be one time," Jenni said, getting up. Hiei followed her outside. "Coming?"

"Be there in a sec!" Kurama replied. "Are you coming, Yukina?"

"No. I'll stay here," Yukina said softly.

Kurama nodded and walked outside. He caught up with Jenni and Hiei and they all walked to the designated area for the fight.

"So, Kurama.............How come you're not in school??" Jenni asked as they walked.

"No school for a few weeks," Kurama said. "We all have the same amount of homework because the school is closing for a few repairs."

Jenni nodded and focused in the problem at hand. She had to fight Kuwabara, hopefully win, then go back to training or something like that. She would have to ask Hiei if Genkai had hot springs...........

"So, you made it. Glad to see it. I've been waiting to see the day Kuwabara gets his @$$ kicked by a girl," Yusuke said, coming up to Jenni and grinning.

"Urameshi!! Would you show a little more confidence in me?!?!" Kuwabara asked, coming up behind Yusuke. "I, the great Kazuma Kuwabara, will defeat the fox shrimp!!"

Jenni's eye twitched. "SHRIMP?!?!" She glared at Kuwabara, then declared, "THIS MEANS WAR!!!"

They both got in fighting stances and waited for a few moments before attacking each other. Jenni dodged to the side and dodged Kuwabara's swings gracefully, then landed a few of her own.

The whole fight lasted about 5 minutes. Jenni won, landing over 100 punches and kicks while Kuwabara landed two.

"What was that about the 'Great Kazuma Kuwabara'?" Jenni asked.

At that moment, there was a loud explosion from the trees where the Reikai Tantei and Jenni were.

The three that had not just fought got into fighting stances in front of Jenni, who blushed madly.

Evil laughter came from above them and Jenni, as well as all the others, looked up. What she saw made her scream.

Her brother, Andrew, stood in the air, floating. He was holding a scythe in one hand while the other was glowing black.

"Hello again, dear sister. Have you missed me?" Andrew asked, looking down at her.

"No. Not really. I missed your person, not your punch, Andrew," Jenni said, rubbing her arm in remembered pain.

"What is it? Who is this person, Jenni?" Hiei asked, looking at Jenni and keeping Andrew in his vision as well.

"That is Andrew, my brother. He is 3 ½ years older than me and he hates me. I forgot to add something to my past; Andrew used to hit me. All the time. I don't bruise easily, but he bruised me. That's hard to do. I haven't seen him in three years, since I left the U.S., to come here," Jenni said, glaring at Andrew.

"Aww.....you didn't miss me, baby sister? I'm disappointed. You should know by now that I've hit you too many times to give up on you. I know all your weak spots.........Your tender spots...............What you love, what you hate........and, most importantly, WHO you love and who you hate." Andrew smirked as Jenni gasped.

"You wouldn't dare!!" Jenni said, glaring at Andrew.

"I might," Andrew said.

"Hiei, Kurama, Yusuke, get Kuwabara and get out of here," Jenni said. They hesitated. "Well, what are you waiting for?! Get out of here!!"

"Alright," Hiei said, nodding. Yusuke sighed and picked up Kuwabara with Kurama's help. They managed to get out of the clearing before Jenni's spirit energy skyrocketed.

A mysterious wind picked up and swirled around them both, making Jenni's hair fly and Andrew moved a little in the air. The wind intensity grew as Jenni's spirit energy levels grew.

'Where is all this energy coming from?! It's so strong............I might have to retreat for today. She's too strong,' Andrew thought, backing up a little bit.

What he wasn't expecting, however, was for Jenni to be able to attack him while he was in the air. Boy, was he in for a surprise!

Jenni raised her hands, right index finger pointed at Andrew.

"Tell me, Andrew.......was it you that killed our parents?!" Jenni yelled, a Fire Gun on the end of her finger.

"Yes, you dimwit. I killed out parents," Andrew said, a sadistic smile on his lips. "But I did not do it directly........No, I had my loyal servants do it for me!"

Jenni had had enough. She couldn't take it any more. "FIRE GUN!!!!!" She screamed. She fired and hit him in the chest.

Andrew was thrown back, some of his energy drained from him.

'WHAT?!?! Since when was my sister able to use her spirit energy?! That's it; I must retreat. I will train more, and I will kill my sister, gain her power, and rule the three worlds!' With that thought in mind, Andrew departed quickly, leaving Jenni on her own.

Jenni fell to her knees, shock written all over her face. She couldn't take it any more. It was all too much for her to handle.

She got up and ran through the forest as fast as she could, her spirit energy retracting and disappearing.

Hiei, who had gone only far enough to make Jenni think that he was gone, had seen and heard everything. He raced after her, dodging trees, and finally found her, in a small clearing. She was deep inside the forest by now, curled up in a ball and crying.

He walked over to her and kneeled beside her. "Shhh....It's alright......It's alright.....Calm down," Hiei said comfortingly, picking her up and cradling her against his chest.

"What am I going to do, Hiei? My own brother wants to kill me, I found out that he killed my parents, and now I don't know what to do. I'm so confused, Hiei." Jenni buried her face in his chest, crying softly.

Hiei just sat there and held her. They stayed like that for a while, then Hiei got up, Jenni still in his arms, and flickered off to Genkai's temple, where everyone was waiting.

"What happened?" Kurama asked as soon as Hiei set Jenni down.

"She was attacked by her brother. Her spirit energy skyrocketed, which I'm sure you all felt, and they talked for a while Jenni hit him in the chest with a Fire Gun," Hiei summarized.

"Yeah, Grandma could feel Jenni's spirit energy all the way over here clearly," Yusuke said. (By the way, there is like a 3-mile hike between where Jenni fought and the temple.)

Jenni smiled weakly. "Well, at least I got out alive, this time," Jenni said, looking away.

"What do you mean, 'This time'?" Yusuke asked. "You killed Andrew, right?"

Jenni shook her head. "No, I didn't. I was not able to. He ran off before I could finish the job. At least *I* escaped," Jenni said with a sigh, putting her head down, a silent tear running down her face.

"Alright, Hiei. You missed a fact or two. Explain," Yusuke said, plopping down on the floor and watching Hiei.

"Andrew killed their parents. Well, not directly. He had some of his henchmen do it for him," Hiei said.

"HE killed them?! But why?" Kuwabara asked, looking confused.

"I don't know. I just don't know," Kurama said, looking at Jenni, who was still on the floor.

"I do," Jenni said hollowly. "Because he's not my real brother. Technically, I shouldn't have a brother. He must be a demon in disguise. I never saw a birth certificate, and that person just suddenly.....appeared when I was five. I never had a brother before then." Jenni looked up. "I never realized that until just now. 'Andrew' made one mistake: He showed me his tail when he ran off. He must be a demon because people don't have tails." Jenni's expression hardened. "Now, I have to kill him for two main reasons: A) he tried to kill me, and B) he tricked me. He will pay." Jenni's spirit energy was climbing again and she was glaring at the wall.

"You really will go through with this, won't you?" Hiei asked, looking down at her. Jenni nodded and tried to stand up. She nearly fell over and Hiei caught her. "I'll help you, but you need to rest right now." Hiei picked her up and carried her up to her room.

"So, the fox shrimp is out to kill a demon, huh? Well, there's no use in trying to stop her. Might as well help her," Yusuke said, glancing at Kurama. "You helping as well, Kurama?"

Kurama nodded. "It is a noble cause. So I won't mind. Besides, she can't control her spirit energy yet. She'll need help with that. What about you, Kuwabara?"

"I, Kazuma Kuwabara, will make sure that Jenni comes to no harm, and I will therefore have to go with her!" Kuwabara said, brandishing his fist in the air.

Kurama and Yusuke sweatdropped.

"Just how are you supposed to protect a girl that beat you, baka?" Yusuke asked, looking rather amused.

"Shut up, Urameshi!! That has nothing to do with this!" Kuwabara yelled, glaring at Yusuke.

"On the contrary, it has everything to do with this. Yusuke does have a valid point. How WOULD you protect her if she beat you in about 5 minutes?" Kurama asked, amusement twinkling in his eyes.

"KURAMA!! You were supposed to help me, not Urameshi!" Kuwabara complained, looking rather flustered.

"It's only the truth, baka," Hiei said. He had returned after he had set Jenni on her bed.

"Well, Kuwabara. Three against one wins. You have to stay here with Genkai and protect the girls," Yusuke said.

"WHAT?!?! I don't wanna stay here! That should be his job!" Kuwabara yelled, pointing at Yusuke.

"Well, Yukina's going to be here, but if you still don't want to protect them.........." Kurama trailed off, smirking very slightly.

"Yukina! I'll stay! ^__^" Kuwabara said with a dorky grin.

Yusuke sniggered, Kurama smiled and hid it with his hand, and Hiei snorted.

Jenni was laughing silently. She had snuck out of her room to listen to what they were talking about, since she had heard their yelling, and had heard the conversation since Hiei stepped in.

Hiei glanced over at the door that Jenni was hiding behind. He smirked slightly when he felt her energy, just barely noticeable.

'Hn. Baka on'na. I know you're there and you better get back to bed before I have to go over there and make you,' Hiei said telepathically.

'Eck!' Jenni sent back, silently backing away from the door.

'5........4........3........2.......1,' Hiei said, walking towards the door.

'NOOOOOOOOOOO!! You can't make me go!' Jenni said, dashing through the corridors of the temple.

Hiei set after her. He was going to enjoy this chase, so her ran just slightly faster than a normal human.

Jenni saw the main exit ahead of her and opened the door, dashing outside. She ran over to the forest and kept running, keeping careful track of where she was going.

Hiei noticed a flash of black and red as Jenni dashed into the trees. He sped up and kept up the chase.

Jenni managed to trick Hiei by making her energy seep right in a fork while she went left. She turned around and headed back to the temple.

She ran faster than normal and burst into the temple, again. She had, momentarily, lost Hiei. She ran as fast as she could over to the living room and hid behind Kurama just as Hiei appeared on the windowsill.

Hiei and Jenni were both panting and rather tired.

"Alright, Jenni. Get over here, now!" Hiei said, looking at Kurama. He looked behind Kurama and saw Jenni. She yipped and hid behind Yusuke.

"Yusuke, help me! He's gonna make me go to bed and I'm not tired!" Jenni said, looking desperately at Yusuke.

"Don't you need to heal, though?" Yusuke asked, looking behind hem at Jenni.

"Naw, I'll be fine. I've had worse. I don't need to rest, or heal, or, in any way, shape, or form, go to bed!" Jenni said, glaring at Hiei.

"Yes, you do. Now go to bed so you can rest. The longer you take, the longer I'm going to hold you in your room, Kit," Hiei said, smirking.

"You can't do that! Kurama! SOMEONE help me out! I don't wanna go!" Jenni whined, looking pleadingly at Kurama.

"Sorry. I'll have to go with Hiei on this one. You need to rest," Kurama said, smiling slightly.

Jenni sighed in annoyance. "Fine," She ground out. "But you guys are SO gunna owe me for this!" She stomped to her room, slamming the door behind her. She changed and lay down on her bed. She had never realized it, but the bed was really comfy.....and she was so sleepy.........

When Hiei checked on Jenni five minutes later, she was fast asleep, smiling slightly. He smiled and close the door.
