"That's a stupid reason." Sara said in a low voice.
Grissom turned his head around and looked at her. She was pissed at him, and he knew it.
She sprayed on the black leather material, her eyes staring at the wet spot. For the first time, she wasn't into her work. Her thoughts distracted her. Why was he doing this? Why was he telling her that Nick was better than her? Tears burned behind her eyes, the lump in her throat got bigger as the thoughts went on.
"Sara."
"What?" She almost choked.
"I found blood."
She cleared her throat to make the lump go away but it was no use. Her eyes got stingier and that feeling throughout her whole body was making her start to cry. She took a deep breath and looked at him.
'I couldn't do it.'
She remembered standing there, staring at him through the glass. Those words echo in her mind as she saw him sitting there. She couldn't believe what she just heard. Was he telling her there will be no 'us' or was he telling her that there may be a chance.
"Sara."
She snapped out of her thoughts and looked at his hand. He had already swapped the blood and pushed the lid up.
"I'm finished. So, I guess we're done here."
She nodded and went out of the limo first. He went out on his side.
They stared at each other from above the limo's hood.
He was the first one to speak.
"Are you okay?"
Of course, Grissom. I'm okay. I didn't get the promotion and I guess you don't see the tears going down my cheeks. So, why wouldn't I be okay?
She pressed a fake smile on her lips and turned around to wipe the tears away.
She heard his footsteps approaching her. What was he going to do? She felted his hand touch her elbow. She looked up at him but didn't move.
He looked at her and she suddenly started to cry harder. She felted him pull her into an embrace and let her cry into his chest. He moved his hand up and down her back, trying to calm her.
Between the sobs and gasp for breath, she chokingly said.
"I know."
He stopped the movement of his hand. Why did he stop? That felt so relaxing.
"You know what?"
She took a deep breath and wiped the tears.
She looked up at him. "You couldn't do it."
He stared at her and held her closer.
"You were there, weren't you?"
She nodded. He finally found out?
He sighed. "Sara--."
She placed her hand on his chest to stop him. Did she just touch him? No. Oh, god. This was a dream, but it wasn't.
"You don't need to explain." She wrapped her arms around his neck. All she wanted to do was kiss him but she wasn't sure if that is what he wanted.
He looked at her but didn't say anything.
She looked down at his chest, wondering if she should ask. Should she? "I do have one question, though."
"What's that?"
"Is there a chance for us?" She looked up at him with hope in her eyes.
He took a moment and brushed a strain of hair from her face. He then, caressed her cheek.
His hand was so warm against her skin. She loved it.
She smiled up at him and knew that was a 'yes'.
