Hermione couldn't stand the tension any longer. The lingering gazes, the way he was picking on her more then usual. She needed him and she wanted the whole world to know. She looked forward to potions lessons just so she could be near him. It was the only class they had together so she held it in special reverence. She risked a quick glance at him, bent over his desk, his hair hanging into his eyes. He was troubled, she could tell. She knew it was wrong, she was Gryffindor's golden girl, and he was the head of all Slytherins.

Suddenly, as if he could sense her eyes on him, he looked up from his work to stare carelessly into her eyes. He looked right through her. He always did. In a way she was grateful. If he ever realised how she felt she was sure that the whole of Slytherin House would know, laughing and sniggering behind her back. Even more than usual. Though it was nowhere near as bad as it used to be in potion lessons. She wondered if it was anything to do with him. He was the only one who had that kind of power over his house. But why would he do such a thing? She shook her head; they must have just come to the conclusion that there was more to life than tormenting muggle- borns.

Sighing, she turned back to her work. No use. She just couldn't concentrate with him in the room. Her mind kept on wandering. It's a wonder she did as well as she did in potions with him distracting her this much. She couldn't take this for much longer. She just wanted to stand up and shout how she felt. She couldn't keep these feelings bottled up for much longer. She had come close to telling him a few times, going up to him after lessons had finished but she always stopped herself. There always seemed to be a gang of Slytherins around him, trying to get attention. He always seemed so concerned about that Aurora girl as well. Bitch. Just because she was a sorceress and a bloody Slytherin at that.

Hermione had had enough. She had to tell him. A sort of rage had come over her. She didn't care what the others thought. To hell with them all! She stood up, knocking her work to the floor. He snapped his head up to look at her, his mouth open in shock as she shouted:

"PROFESSOR SNAPE, I LOVE YOU!"

She turned and ran out of the classroom, leaving Harry to stare helplessly after her as the rest of the class burst into loud, mocking laughter.
