Only Time

Me: My first tragedy songfic! YYH doesn't belong to me. This is based on Hiei's last moment with Kurama. "Only Time" belongs to Enya, not me.

Who can say where the road goes,
Where the day flows?

Kurama knelt down besides the dying half-Koorime, tears flowing down his face.

"Hiei..." he whispered.

Hiei tried to smile weakly.

And who can say if your love grows,
As your heart chose?
Only time...

Yusuke wiped his eyes with his sleeve.

"You'd...You'd better stay with us, Hiei..." he muttered, sniffling a bit.

Kurama looked at the fire demon, his body burned and bloody from the Black Dragon Wave.

And who can say why your heart sighs,
As your love flies?
Only time...

He looked at the mangled corpse of the demon they had slew with the anger of Hiei's suffering.

"Kitsune..." Hiei whispered.

"Just... watch over everyone...when I'm gone...ok?" he asked, tiredly.

"Don't talk like that!! You aren't going anywhere!!!!" Kurama shouted, and broke down. The rest of the Reikai Tantei stayed silent.

"Don't lie to yourself..." Hiei said, "Just watch them... for me... Kurama"

Kurama could feel his life energy draining, and it hit him

Hiei was dying.

Who can say when the roads meet,

"Hiei..." Kurama cried, grabbing his friend's hand, already turning cold.

"I'm sorry I couldn't stay longer..." Hiei replied, "I guess... I'll be seeing you somewhere else..."

Kuwabara brushed the tears away. "Stupid shrimp (sniff)..." he said, sadly.

Hiei gave a very small, very tiny, "Hn"

Before anyone could do anything, Kurama had his head in his arms, tears still streaming down his face.

"Hiei... you're more than a friend to me... Keep it in mind, ok?" he asked through sobs.

Kurama laid Hiei back down on the floor, and Hiei took his hand, even too weak to clench it.

Hiei smiled, took a small breathe, and the silence after it confirmed their worst fears.

Hiei was gone.

"Hiei?" asked Kurama.

Hiei's hand slipped from his, limp.

"HIEI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Hiei...HIEI!!!!!!!! " Kurama cried, and broke down again.

Who knows?
