Chapter 2: Voltaire's your grandfather?
I ran to the parking lot and saw my bike in the middle of two cars on my right. I ran over to my bike, put the helmet on and started the engine and stormed off. I rode on it for about 20 minutes and then slowly a large building that said 'St. John's Hospital' on the top in red bold writing and beside it was the cross thingy (A/N: I'm not sure what you call it. Sorry!). I parked my black bike in the parking lot and quickly hurried towards the entrance.
I hurried to the elevator and stepped inside. I pressed the number 5 on the number pad thingy and it glowed red. After a few seconds, time was a ding sound and the elevator doors slid open. I hurried outside and went to the receptionist desk. I saw an old lady with a white uniform and a name tag that said Amy.
"Excuse me, but do you know where I can find Mr. Voltaire Hiwatari?" I politely asked. The nurse nodded and looked in a big book in front of my. I trailed my finger from the top of the book's page and then stopped.
"He's in room # 35. That's straight ahead," I said as polite and returned to the phone that was ringing. I nodded in appreciation and turned and went straight ahead. After a couple of rooms, I came to a door that had said 'Room 34' on it in again red and bold writing. I turned the solver knob and walked inside silently. I saw an old man with gray hair lying on bed with a nurse and a doctor beside him. The old man seemed asleep and the doctor was writing something on his clipboard.
The doctor noticed my come in and nodded to my.
"How is he, doc?" I asked silently as I went and sat on a chair beside the bed.
"He's fine; we had to do the operation a bit early because of his condition but the operation was successful and he's out of danger. He's taking a rest right now but should be waking up in an hour or so. There are a cafeteria and a computer lab straight ahead if you wanna pass your time there," the doctor said and exited the room with the nurse following him behind. I glanced at the old man one more time before exiting the room myself.
~*~*~*One hour later~*~*~*
I went back to Voltaire's room and saw Kai and Tala sitting there. Tala was leaning against the wall with his eyes closed and his hands crossed against his chest while Kai looked like he was gonna explode with anger. Voltaire was just staring at the ceiling with an emotionless face. I knocked on the door before coming in. Tala opened his eyes and stared at my like I had grown two heads and Kai did the same thing. Voltaire smiled and nodded.
"Hello I, long time no see," Voltaire said smiling. When Kai saw his expression, he was fuming with anger even more.
"Likewise grandfather, this is not fair!" I said taking a seat beside him.
"What's not fair?" Voltaire asked happily. (A/N: O.O)
"I leave you for two years and you're back in the hospital!" I exclaimed pouting while he just smiled warmly. Kai and Tala were staring at me like I had done some big miracle.
"You're no better! I told you not to start racing until you recover and you just have to disobey me and then you get a major concussion.....again!" Voltaire protested. I just shrugged in response, not caring. "Come on, do you still has a frozen heart?"
"Hey, you're the one who always said that emotions are a weakness. I'm just merely obeying you," I said coldly.
"But you should know that I was joking," Voltaire said.
"What about your grandson? Where you joking with him? Did he go through all that for nothing?" I asked staring at Kai. Kai looked shockingly at me and Tala jerked his head up, looking interested.
"He's different than you, Rika," Voltaire tried.
"No, he's not. He's just like me. The only difference is that he's your blood. If it was the other way around, then I would have understood. If you treated Kai like you treated me and treated me like you treated him, then it would have been much better. Don't you see? Even after everything he went through because of you, he still comes here to see if you are ok or not," I reasoned getting up from my seat and moving closer to the window. I stood there, staring at the ground below and letting the cool breeze brush through my face.
"But you know my reason of doing this!" Voltaire protested yet again.
"I do but look at it this way, I am 17 and I can handle Boris. But you are 78 and you can't handle him. Boris shouldn't be threatening you in the first place. Boris used to work for you and now he's somewhere threatening every one of us until we surrender. I always told you that Kai doesn't like what you're doing to him and that you should be the one in control but I never saw you trying to threaten Boris. If you wanted, you could have ruined his whole goddamn fucking life!"
"I'm lost, here. What are you? My long lost sister or something?" Kai asked frustrated.
"No, why do you think that?" I asked icily without turning around.
"Maybe because of the fact that you're calling his grandfather, grandfather?" Tala said sarcastically earning a glare from me.
"No, I am not your sister; I call him grandfather because he took care of me ever since I was 2 years old because my real grandfather died. So he took me in the yeah so I call him grandfather because he's like a grandfather to me," I said sighing heavily.
"I see, still how do you know everything about me?" Kai asked me again. I rolled my eyes and looked at him. Sighing again, I dug out a silver chained necklace that he had given me when we were 7 on me birthday and threw it to him. He caught it swiftly and as soon as he saw it, he gasped and whipped his head towards me.
"Recognize it?" I asked frostily as Tala glanced at us confusingly.
"You're Ruin! You're my Ruin!" He exclaimed.
"No, I am not yours, Hiwatari. And yes, I am Ruin, aren't you happy to see you former best friend?" I barked at him.
"But why didn't you tell me before?" He demanded.
"Because I don't talk to traitors anymore. I hated you for what you did and I still do, got it?"
"But you did do it! I saw you!" He protested, obviously angered because I brought up a subject that had been troubling me ever since he moved here.
"You had no right to believe that boy! He was obviously jealous of you because I always hung out with you and completely ignored him! You knew that too! He always wanted to break us up! You hated you like shit. He was jealous of you. You were supposed to trust me. I was your best friend, not him! Yet you decide to believe him and betray me! Whenever I tried to talk to you, you ignored me like you never met me in your whole goddamn life!
"Do you have any idea how much you hurt me? And now you fully expect me to come over to you and say 'Hi, Kai, remember me? Your best friend? By the way I forgive you for what happened that night!' You expect me to say that?" I roared at him surprising everybody with my sudden outburst. I shook my head and looked at grandfather. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that. By the way, if anybody calls, please don't tell them I'm here?" He nodded in return. "I have to go now, I'll come back later to check again, ok?" Again he nodded.
I started to walk out but I felt a warm and smooth hand grab my left wrist. I looked at my captor and saw Kai. "Look, why can't you just apologize?" He asked me softly.
"Because I did nothing wrong. I don't apologize, Hiwatari and you know it. Just because you were my best friend doesn't make you an exception. As if now, I, Rika Seghal, will forget I ever knew you, Kai Hiwatari. I will forget you were my best friend and you will forget I was yours. As if now, I break our long, so-called Eternity Friendship thing. You never knew me in your life and vice versa. I don't mean anything to you and you don't mean anything to me," I said coldly. I yanked my wrist away from him and walked away, a fresh stream of tears flowing from my eyes down my pale cheek.
