Moments before, Terri was in her bedroom reading Of Mice and Men for her book report for Mrs. Kwan's class, when the phone rang. She marked her place and picked up the phone. "Hello?" she asked.

"Hey," Ashley said on the other line.

"Hi," Terri said.

"I heard your having some girls over to your house this weekend."

"Uh, yeah." She crossed her fingers hoping that Ashley wouldn't ask why she wasn't invited.

"I'm sorry, but I didn't get an invite," Ashley said.

"That's because you're not invited."

"What?"

Terri heard the disappointment in her voice. She rolled her eyes. "I didn't stutter, Ash."

"What! I thought we were—"

A beeping sound made her voice go in and out.

"Hey, Ash," Terri said. "I got a call on the other line."

"Ok," Ashley said.

Terri switched over. "Hello?"

"Hey, it's Sammy," the voice on the other line said.

"Oh hey," Terri replied.

"I got someone to take care of Gabe this weekend I can come over."

"Great!"

"Well, I better go," Sammy said. "Craig's playing with Gabe downstairs."

"Ok," Terri said.

"See you tomorrow."

"See you."

Sammy hung up and Terri switched back over to Ashley. "Sorry that was Sammy."

"What are you talking to her for?" Ashley asked.

Terri groaned and pressed the END button and disconnected her. "If you're going to be obnoxious about it I don't want to talk to you," she said, to the phone and tossed it onto her bed and picked her book up but couldn't get back into it. She groaned and picked up one of her throw pillows and held it over her face and screamed into it. Lately, Ashley had been getting on her nerves. She threw the pillow down and picked up her portable CD player and put the headphones on and turned it on, cranking it up loud enough for her to stand it and not deafen her and loud enough to blast Ashley out of her head.
