"I'm sort of worried about Gabe," Sammy said.
"So am I," Kendra said. "He's with my brother."
"She has a point," Hazel replied.
"Please, quit picking on my boyfriend," Paige said.
"Sorry, but it's so easy to pick on him," Terri replied.
The girls laughed. Sammy unzipped her overnight bag and her eyes widened.
"What?" Ellie asked, seeing her.
She pulled out Gabriel's DVD. "I hope the guys won't need this," she said, holding it up.
"I'm sure they won't," Paige said.
"I hope you're right," Sammy said. She put the DVD back into her overnight bag. "I can't believe I put it in my bag, though." She laughed.
"Plus, Spinner and Jimmy are big kids themselves," Terri replied.
"You're right," Sammy replied.
She sat down as Terri dumped junk food all over the floor around them in Terri's bedroom. They started eating and talking.
"Hey, Sammy, could I ask you a question?" Kendra asked.
"Shoot," Sammy said.
"What's it like…you know, being pregnant?"
"You're not thinking of—"
"No!" she said. "Toby and I aren't like that I mean…I was just wondering, I mean, you know. Manny doesn't seem to—"
"Manny doesn't know what to do," Sammy replied. "I don't think she even meant to get pregnant."
"Then why did she have sex with all those guys?" Paige asked. "We had to kick her off of the Spirit Squad."
"For what?" Terri asked.
"Because, she's acting like it was all…whoever's fault that she's pregnant. I mean, it takes two to make a baby."
"Yeah," Sammy said. "Exactly."
"But she's depressed all the time," Hazel said.
"I guess, we should keep a close eye on her," Ellie said. She touched the scars on her arm, they were slowly fading and were almost gone but she knew they'd never leave. "For the baby, I mean."
"Yeah," Sammy said.
"Why are you nice to her?" Kendra asked. "When she was so mean to you?"
Sammy shrugged. "I have sympathy for the girl. I mean, she knew what she getting herself into. I don't think she tried to protect herself."
They nodded.
"So, what is it like?" Kendra asked after a moment's silence.
Sammy looked at them. "I think it's pretty cool to think that there is a human being growing inside of me. Craig thinks it's amazing, too." She put a potato chip in her mouth. "That might be why Manny is depressed. I mean, I have someone beside me through this whole thing and she doesn't have anyone."
"Yeah," Paige said.
Sammy jumped as the baby kicked inside her.
"What?" Terri asked.
"The baby just kicked."
"Can I feel?" Paige asked. She was sitting next to her on the floor.
Sammy nodded and put Paige's hand on her stomach and the baby kicked again. "Wow," Paige said. The girls took turns feeling the baby inside Sammy. Sammy felt upset that Craig wasn't there when the baby kicked for the first time.
They talked some more maneuvering the conversation from her, Craig, and the baby and Manny and her baby to something else.
