Chapter 4 Keeping You a Secret

While I was sleeping I had a dream. In my dream I was on a beach. I at first thought it was Mineral Beach, but the sand was much whiter, and the waves were much softer. The sun shone down through a veil of morning mist, and I head a few gulls calling in the distance.

I squinted ahead of me, and saw a shadow moving through the fog. As it drew nearer I immediately recognized the pink hair, it was Popuri. She ran over to me, smiling and cheerful as ever. She engulfed me in a warm embrace, but I couldn't bring myself to hug back.

She suddenly stepped away and the image of her flickered, before being replaced by that of Jack. I suddenly felt warm. He moved closer, and embraced me, and our lips once again touched. We got lost in our passion and I found myself on the ground in a heap with Jack. We were laughing and kissing, and just as we were about to go the next step, I was shaken out of my slumber.

I opened my eyes and looked up to see Jack staring down at me. He laughed at my frazzled state, "Wow, you're a pretty heavy sleeper!" He said to me, teasing.

I sat up, and threw him off me playfully and he tumbled to the floor saying, "Hey don't get rough sleepyhead!" I laughed and got out of bed, throwing the pillow down at him. "Yeah, yeah, I'm always grouchy 'til I get my breakfast!" I said in comeback.

He laughed and pointed to the table. "Your breakfast, my Lordship" he said in a fake cheesy accent, and I looked over to the table, seeing two plates, Jack's was empty, but on mine were scrambled eggs with a glass of milk.

"Heh, hope you like eggs." he said to me. I smiled, "'Course I like eggs, who doesn't?" Jack threw the pillow back on the bed and looked around before finally saying, "I don't mean to kick you out or anything, but you should get going soon. The beach shack is supposed to open in an hour."

I spit out my mouthful of milk and looked down at my watch. Had I really slept in that late? "Wow, I guess I do have to get going!" I quickly stood up and looked at myself in the mirror. I looked a little roughed up, but nobody would suspect anything, so I walked over to the door.

"Thanks for letting me stay last night. . ." I said to Jack as I turned the handle on the door. He just smiled at me warmly and said, "Anytime . . . Good-bye, Kaaai" we both laughed as I rushed out.

I made it to the shack just in time for opening, and stood outside before I went in, leaning against the building and breathing heavily. Zack was walking into his house at this point and saw me standing like this.

"You ok, Kai?" he asked. I nodded, "I had a rough night, that's all." Zack nodded. "Where did you stay? Everybody was looking for you when you hadn't shown up at the inn." Luckily I was facing away from him, so he couldn't see how wide my eyes had bulged out.

"You know what, I can't talk now, I have to get inside and set up, you know, before somebody comes." He nodded, "I understand. See you later Kai." "Phew," I said as I stepped into the shack, "that was a close call. . ."

Before we fell asleep last night Jack and I had talked for awhile. It had taken a little time, but we both finally admitted that we were definitely in love. It had taken a lot of convincing for me to tell him that I hadn't just kissed him because that was what he wanted.

We then came to an agreement. We wouldn't tell anybody about our relationship, we would keep it a secret. We agreed to try and meet as often as possible, but not so much that people would start getting suspicious of us.

In the meantime, Jack would keep pretending to have a crush on Ann, so he would have an excuse to come to the inn and see me, and I would continue to act like I was upset over the breakup with Popuri. But suddenly a thought came to me that we hadn't discussed. What happens at the end of the summer when I'm supposed to leave?

That night, Jack came to the inn. After giving the egg to Ann as usual he made his way upstairs. I was alone in the room. Cliff was still at the church, and I had persuaded Gray to finally go spend some time with Mary. It was obvious they had the hots for each other. I had even taken the liberty of paying Doug to give Cliff a few drinks when he came back.

Doug was skeptical for my reasoning, but eventually agreed. So everything was set, Jack and I had the room to ourselves, well for an hour or two at least.

Jack stepped into the room and mosied over to the edge of the bed where I had been sitting, waiting for him. He kissed me once before pulling back and saying, "Hello, Kai. . ." he had a mischievous glint in his eyes when he said it that made him look very sexy.

A smile played at my lips as I responded, "Hello . . . Jack" he tackled me back onto the bed, and my muffled laughter was barely audible from underneath him. He pulled away from me, and then came down again, this time lined up so our lips would meet.

He put his strong arms around me, pinning me down to the bed as we kissed, becoming more passionate as we continued each time. Finally he pulled away, breathing heavily. I was doing the same and he noticed this.

He sat up on the bed, and offered me his hand to help me up. I sat up next to him and leaned my head into the crook of his shoulder, gently kissing his neck. I then sat back up and looked at him, he looked back at me with his warm gaze, and then I finally managed to find words for the question I had been wondering since our first kiss.

"Jack," I began, "have you always been . . ." I couldn't find the right word, but he understood, shaking his head. "No, I started as normal as anyone, you know, boy meets girl, blah, blah, blah, but then I met him, and everything about me changed. I suddenly had no interest in girls anymore, only him. But then I realized he didn't have the same feelings for me, so I left. Somehow, I ended up here at the beginning of this spring. I was actually planning on leaving much sooner than this, but then it was summer, and you came. The first time I saw you, I knew you would be the one. It was just a matter of making you see that."

I smiled and we kissed once more before he stood up, looking at his watch. "I'd love to stay for longer Kai, but your roommates will be coming in any second now." I nodded, "See you tomorrow, Jack."

He smiled, "Good-bye Kaaai" we both smiled and he went out the door. It seemed that Jack was right on the dot. As soon as he walked out Gray came in. He gave me a weird look as if he might suspect something. I worked quick to cover it up.

"Hey, Gray, how was your night with Mary?" He smiled, all suspicion gone from his face. "It was great Kai, in fact, we're seeing each other now. I definitely owe you one." I smiled back.

"Anything for a friend. . ." I said, smiling. Suddenly Doug opened the door and shoved Cliff into the room, glaring at me. He then slammed the door and left. Oops, guess I may have paid for a few too many drinks for Cliff, hah, hah. . .

Cliff stood up, drunk as heck, and made his way over to the bed, where he vomited and then fainted. I blinked a few time, and then Gray looked over at me, suspicion back in his look.

"Why was Doug staring at you like that?" I cleared my throat, "I uhm, convinced him to give Cliff a few drinks, you know, as a treat from me. . . I guess he ordered a few too many. . . "

We together, managed to get Cliff off the bed, and on to mine, and then stripped the sheets off his. We didn't say a word to each other the whole time. Gray slept in his own bed that night, but I was forced into the empty room so I would actually have a place to sleep that didn't smell like vomit.

As I fell asleep that night, one thought kept running through my mind. . .

I had to avoid Gray at all costs.

A/N: Sorry for the longish wait! I've been playing AWL in all of my time not taken up by school, so this story hasn't been worked on in a while. I promise the next chapter will come faster.
