Queen of Dysfunction

Buffy stared at the frosted glass of school corridor. Here she was again making her way to the principal's office. She dragged her feet as she made her way down the hallway painted mental asylum white.

As she tentatively pushed open the door to the office she was met with a familiar sight. Her mother was being briefed by that little rodent nazi, Snyder, Her mother was shaking her head in agreement, and Snyder was looking ecstatic about the whole thing. She was going to run away one day. For good this time.

Upon noticing daughters entrance her mother turned, her lips set in a straight line.

"In the car now young lady", she demanded.

.::Later that night::.

Buffy slowly and cautiously made her way down the side of the house. She turned and collided with a man , a stranger. She took a moment to study him. He had bleached blonde hair, a leather duster, and he wore all black. He was a vampire that was for sure.

"God, buddy. You could at least try to hide it. I mean could you get anymore stereotypical?" Buffy said rolling her eyes and crossing her arms over her chest.

The stranger just cocked his head to the side and continued to stare down at her.

"Are you deaf?"

"No", the stranger said speaking for the first time, "Just wondering is all. How could a little thing like you know about things that go bump in the night?" he continued without waiting for her response, "What could you possibly know that makes you unafraid"

"I know you are Spike, William the Bloody, whatever you're calling yourself, I know you won't hurt me, and I know that you are going to ask me now how I know this"

"Read my mind, love"

"I know all this because my mother was a slayer"

"Which slayer pet, what was her name?"

"Buffy", Buffy answered simply

She watched his reaction to the name of her mother.

"Pulling my leg are you. Buffy doesn't have brats yet"

Buffy didn't answer. Instead she tilted her head and began her explanation; "I know a lot of things Spike. I know that my mother doesn't remember she was a slayer, I know that this is because Aunt Willow did I spell, I know my mother doesn't remember you, I know my mother doesn't remember my birth, I know you are my father, I know that you didn't know that, I know you are going to tell me that this is bullshit, vampires can't conceive, I know that I will explain the prophecy to you, I know you will get all emotional, and most of all I know that you are going to try and see Buffy again. And to that I have some advice, don't. She is happy because she doesn't know you. Willow did that spell for a reason, and that reason is that Buffy, my mother, is happier when she can believe that she is a normal single-mother with bills up to her chin a circle of close friends. When my mother believes that I am in the consequence of a one night stand gone wrong instead of the product of an ancient prophecy that she fulfilled that night before you left her fifteen years ago, she is happy. You, of all people have no right to take that away"

Buffy paused to take a breath.

Spike finally stirred from his coma like trance, "Wait, you are telling me that I'm your dad because some ancient prophecy made it so. But you are also trying to tell me that after I left Red did a spell so the slayer doesn't know she is a slayer, and she thinks you are a one night stand gone wrong. That's what you're saying"

Buffy blinked, "In a nutshell."

Buffy brushed past Spike, her head bent down and her pack weighing her down.

"Wait", Spike called after her, "You're my daughter, right?"

"Yes", Buffy said as if speaking to a slow person.

"What's your name, love?"

Buffy smiled, "Buffy", she said, and with that she turned and left her father standing on her lawn trying to make sense of his life.
