"But mother, I hate wearing dresses," Aly complained.
"But Aly, I don't care," Alanna retorted.
"Why?" Aly wanted to know.
"Why, what?" asked her mother.
"Why do I have to wear this heavy lot?" she replied.
"Because, you were born into a noble family," Alanna explained. "And we have the money to pay for a proper noble upbringing, and that, by George, is what we are going to do," she finished.
"Breathe," her daughter said, "so what am I getting all dressed up for this time?" Aly wanted to know.
"Because someone very important and very special is here to see you," she replied, "I'm sure you'll like this one."
"I'm sure I will," Aly grumbled under her breath.
"Hmm?" her mother said.
"What? I didn't say any thing,"

"Now go out into the courtyard, like a nice girl, and present yourself like the beautiful noblewoman that I know is in there somewhere," Alanna said.
"Yes mother," Aly sighed as she walked out into the beautiful courtyard.
"Good evening my lord, I am pleased to meet your—Nawat?" she said abruptly.
"Hello Aly, I've missed you," said the crow-man.
"I've missed you too," she said giving him a big hug.
Nawat pulled her down beside him and put one arm around her waist and one behind her head. When Aly looked up at him he smiled and kissed her.
He had missed Aly while she was away on business with her father for two months.
When he finally let go of her, they were both panting.
"Aly," he asked, "I have something to tell you."
"Yes", she replied snuggling close to him. She felt his breath on her head.
"I'm going to get married." Aly looked up at him startled and hurt.
