You Never Replied

You stood their crying
Tears running down your face
I said your name
You looked up at me

I kissed you right there
To drown out your sorrows
To let you know that I love you
So I could once again see you smile

I said it to you once
I uttered those three words
"I love you"
As I held you before I disappeared

Yet you never replied
Never returned the phrase
But I knew you did
By the look of twisted sadness on your face

So I ran off
I didn't want to see you cry
Knowing full well I couldn't say goodbye
I didn't want to hurt you anymore

I fell into darkness
Waited in the Farplane
I heard your whistle
I lead you home again

Water held me closely
I uncurled and swam up
Breaking the surface
I saw you there, unable to breathe

I held you close
Wishing the moment not to fade
You whispered 'I love you'
Then I knew I was real
