Definitely an Inconvenience

Disclaimer: Harry Potter does not belong to me, and if JK ever decided to give up the rights to it, I'm sure there are thousands of people ahead of me on the waiting list.

Author's Notes: Short little story I wrote, partly because I felt it was a challenge. Inspired by the people at the SugarQuill, and the long conversation we've been having on the genre that has now been dubbed 'name'.

Hermione was a very secure girl. She knew she was an intelligent human being and, though she didn't think of herself as being overly pretty, she wasn't exactly unpleasant to look at. She'd proved that at the Yule Ball, hadn't she? Never mind that it had taken a ton of hair managing potions to get her overly bushy hair under control. Hermione sighed. A few months ago she would have scoffed at finding herself thinking about her looks, but now... No she hadn't changed. Looks still didn't matter much to her. But she was going back to Hogwarts, and she hadn't seen any of her friends all summer. She had good reason to be worried, didn't she? Hadn't Monique...?

She scoffed. What did Monique know, anyway? She was as flat as a pancake! But hadn't Monique done a double take when she'd seen Hermione only the week before? In fact, Hermione herself hadn't paid attention to her ... developments before Monique had pointed them out.

Oh, Monique had probably exaggerated. From the way she'd been going on about it, one would think boys had no room in their heads for any non breast-related thoughts! It was all nonsense, of course. Harry and Ron were her friends, and Harry's godfather had just died. With Voldemort on the rise again, why would anyone care about her 'newly-found assets', as Monique had called them? It had to have been an exaggeration. Nonetheless, she put on a rather bulky sweater and scarf. They weren't huge, definitely, but they were noticeable. They were... an inconvenience.

With a sigh of frustration, Hermione walked to her trunk to make sure everything she needed was packed. She really regretted having to leave some of her books at home, but they just didn't fit in her trunk. Harry and Ron would probably say she had too many, but she simply needed more space. Maybe she could get a new, bigger trunk at Hogsmeade.

Everything seemed to be in place, and the only thing missing was Crookshanks' favorite toy, but Hermione knew it was somewhere around her room. She looked around the floor, and finally spotted it lying under the bed. She kneeled down and tried to reach it, but it was too far inside. Rolling her eyes, she lay down and tried to reach it. No luck.

She tried to crawl under the bed, and found she couldn't fit. Her newly acquired body parts were making it impossible for her to lie flat. She emitted a very low growl and stood up.

Definitely an inconvenience.
