My youth was like a storm; a cloud's black shawl
That cut a band across the burning sun
It's fearsome rain and lightning ravaged all
Soon my land a few green fruits remain.
And now I've reached the autumn of my plans
That I have tended with the rake and spade
To bring back life into the ravaged land
Where water's dug deep troughs, like empty graves.
And who knows if the flowers that I dream
Will find in the sun, bleached as a scream
That strange enchantment giving them vigor
Oh sorrow, sorrow, time devours life
The hidden enemy that gnaws our core
Grows stronger from our bloody sacrifice.
