Chp. 4.
'Indicates individual thoughts.'
[Indicates telepathic communication.]
After school, Clark and Marie headed back for the farm. Pete had agreed to come by later to help with a plan for stopping the latest meteor mutant. Once home, Clark shut off the engine and got out of the truck. Rogue followed suit, and soon the two were inside the house. Clark headed for the refrigerator to grab a snack before heading off to do chores while Rogue sauntered into the living room. Looking at the tv for a second, she turned to Clark as if asking his permission to turn it on. He glanced over into her direction; seeing the situation, he nodded. Once getting his approval Rogue started hunting for the remote, which she successfully found next to Jonathon's chair. Sitting down on the couch she turned on the tv and began channel surfing.
It was nearly over before it even began. The Kents only had four channels, all local. 'What, no satellite?!' Rouge thought desperately. She couldn't believe this. How could anyone living in a technologically advanced world in this day and age not have satellite tv? Or even cable? She let out a loud sigh as the tv began reporting on the crop prices. Clark heard her sigh and headed for the living room.
"Something wrong?" he asked as he sat down at the opposite end of the couch. She looked up to him. "No. I'm fine." she answered back, distressed. The truth was she was bored. Sure, it was technically only her second day in Smallville but it just seemed to her there was nothing to do other than plow fields or clean barn stalls. She was staring at the floor when the tv program cut to a commercial and caught her attention.
"Do you want a safer America? A country where you and your children can walk the streets safely?" The tv cut quickly changed to a scene of family sitting at a park, enjoying the day. Then it abruptly went back to the announcer. "A country where mutants aren't a threat and locked away?" Again, the scene changed from the commercial's announcer to a mutant child, probably no older than fourteen, who was locked in a jail cell. The child itself looked human, or rather humanoid, but it had green scales all over it with and green hair. Clark freaked out a little when he saw the young person on the screen. Suddenly it went back to the announcer. "Then call 1- 800-555-1234 now and pledge your support for the Friends of Humanity today!"
Rogue was disgusted with the commercial she'd just watched. She grabbed the remote and flipped the tv off. Then she got up from the couch and headed for the kitchen. Clark followed. He didn't know what had gotten into her but he wanted to find out and help her if at all possible.
"Rogue, what's wrong?" Clark asked asked he followed her into the kitchen. She opened the refrigerator door looking for something to eat but said nothing to him.
"Rogue?"
She slammed the door closed causing Clark to jump back a little. Twirling around she confronted him. Her fists were clamped shut and she appeared to be fighting off an inner anger. "I'm fine." she stated flatly. She decided to head up to her room but Clark cut her off. "No your not. Pleased talk to me."
The two stood there for a little bit longer. Rogue had all her pent up anger in her and she didn't want to vent it on Clark. Sure, he was concerned about her but could he really understand why. The fact that she was a mutant? The fact that mutants were opressed and hated any where she went? The fact that hate groups such as the Friends of Humanity were responsible for ending mutant lives and nobody did anything to stop them?
Finally she let her guard down. She needed someone to talk too. It was too much for her to hold inside. A stray tear made it's way out of the corner of her eye. Pulling together a rough smile, she took Clark's hand in her gloved one and led him to the kitchen table and sat down. "Clark, I want to talk. A lot of things have happened recently in my life and maybe it would be good to get them out." she told him. Clark nodded. She decided that she would have to bend the truth a little but she still needed to talk to him.
"It was the commercial." she told him. "I've, well, know some people who are mutants. They're good people." Clark blinked at her, clearly not understanding. "What do you mean by you know some mutants? Like meteor freaks?" he asked. Rogue shook her head. "No, I mean as in people who are born mutants. You know, the x-gene? People that are born with it have some sort of mutations in their bodies but they only come out sometime around after puberty during an event in which said person's body during an extremely stressful time."
Clark nodded a little. "I think I understand. I remember reading something about a Senator Kelly trying to get a mutant registration act passed some time back."
Rogue nodded. "He tried then later retracted it. Nobody's really sure why he did it." She lied.
Clark racked his brain for a little before speaking again. "I also remember there being some terrorist attacks in the papers a little while back. One at Liberty Island and another one more recently at Alkali Lake in Canada."
Rogue grimaced when he brought up those two events. It reminded her of the time when Magneto and the Brotherhood had kidnapped her and planned to use her to kill several world dignataries. Of course it'd happened a year and a half ago but the memories were still too fresh in her mind.
Her thoughts were interupted at the sound of a car door pulling up into the Kent drive. Clark had already gotten up and went to see who was there.
Rogue leaned againist the screen door a little observing the four people exiting the tan Jeep. They were Lana, Chloe, Kitty, and Jubilee. Kitty and Jubes were talking non-stop whether it be about boys or shopping, It was trait they'd picked up together back during their first days at the mansion. Rogue smiled at the memory then headed outside to see her friends.
"Hey y'all," she greeted them with a cheery smile as she exited the door and leaned againist the railing.
"Hey Rogue!" Jubilee chimed in as she headed towards her friend, Kitty in tow. Jubilee glanced over to see Clark, who was standing at the bottom of the steps. She began giggling a little and turned to Kitty. Whispering something into Shadowcat's ear, they both begain giggling rather furiously.
Clark cringed when he saw the two girls heading towards the house. What made him start to worry was when he heard what Jubilee had told her friend. It involved him, handcuffs, and a bucket of honey. He wasn't sure he wanted to hear the rest so he tuned his super hearing out and made a note not to hang out around those two by himself in the near future.
"So Rogue, would you like to join us? Were heading to the mall in Metropolis today and thought about you going with us. You know, have a girls night out, so to speak?" This came from Kitty who had stopped in front of Rogue. She looked at her with pleading eyes hoping that her friend would say yes.
"No thanks, y'all. I think I want to stay here. But another time, perhaps?" the Mississippian replied. The two girls groaned and kept the discussion going, talking about how much fun it would be to spend money and talk about cute boys. 'I've got my eyes on only one boy right now.' Rogue thought as she watched Clark head over to talk to Chloe and Lana.
"Hey Lana, Chloe," Clark said as he stopped in front of Lana's Jeep.
"Hi Clark," Chloe replied.
"Hey Clark," Lana told him, then batted her eyelashes a little. She saw the look Rogue had given him when she saw him earlier.
Clark forced an uneasy smile as he fell into conversation with Lana. Chloe, for the most part, leaned againist the Jeep. Occasionaly she would throw a comment at it just to show that she was still aware of what was being said. Unfortunately, she was thinking about Bobby Drake and wishing he was here right now. She had no idea that wish was about to come true.
Another car pulled into the Kent's drive. It was Pete's little red Falcon. Inside it were Pete, Bobby, and Pitor in the front seat with Kurt and John in the back. How the five managed to cram into the little car, she had no idea. She grinned when she saw the five struggling to get out of the Falcon.
Pitor was the first since he was riding shotgun, followed next by Bobby. Chloe could've swore her heart skipped a beat when he saw her. Bobby glanced at her and smiled. She returned it with one of her own and made her way over to him. Next up were Pyro and Kurt. Since none of the front seat occupants had bothered to pull the seat's up, the duo struggled to find the lever. Finally Kurt found it and with a little struggling, successfully had the seat moved up enough to allow his escape. He wished he could've just teleported himself and John out but that wasn't a possibility with the other humans around.
"Hi Bobby," she cooed as she stopped in front of him. He smiled again. It just made her want to fall to her knees.
"Hey Chlo'" he replied back. 'Wow, she really looks good. Smells good too.'
Between her two chattering friends Rogue saw what was happening between Chloe and the Iceman. She crossed both of her arms over her chest and sent him a hurt look. Some how or another he missed it as he continued his conversation with the snarky blonde reporter.
Rogue then turned and looked at Clark. She smiled a little, admiring his build and curly dark hair. Just then Clark glanced off in the distance, like something had pulled his attention away from Lana. During this, Lana looked over to Rogue and frowned. 'She's checking him out, again?! Who does she think she is?' Lana thought to herself. Rogue then noticed that Lana was staring hat her coldly and she returned it. She had realized that during the short time she and her other friends had been here that she was now attracted to Clark. Rogue didn't know what had happened between those two but Clark was now single and she was deciding whether to make a move or not.
While all this was happening Pitor was shooting occasional glances at Kitty. She and Jubes were still talking nonstop about something, he wasn't sure. He wasn't close enough to hear what they were saying. He then saw Jubes look back at him then whisper something into Kitty's hear. Seeing that Kitty was turning to look at him he quickly turned his attention to the barn. Kitty looked at him for a second, rolled her eyes and went back to talking to Jubilee.
"So are you going with us or not?" Jubilee asked her friend. Rogue shifted uncomfortably on her feet then looked at the Asian woman. "No," she told them. "I'm a little tired after today. I think I'll stay here."
"But,"
Rogue cocked her head to one side, shooting her friend a 'don't you ever give up look?'. Finally the two girls conceded, giving Rogue time to let out a sigh. Jubilee hung her head as she and Kitty headed back for the truck. "Let's go, she's not coming." Kitty mumbled. Lana nodded, told Clark goodbye, and rounded the truck for the driver's door. She took one last look at Rogue then got in. Chloe and Bobby were still talking almost nonstop when Lana finally yelled for her to get in. She didn't want to but gave up when she thought about this new shirt and VERY short skirt that she'd seen in a catalog the day before. 'What better way than to catch his eye' she thought to herself. She let out a little giggle as she got in with the others. Lana started up the truck and slowly pulled out and began heading for Metropolis.
About this time Pete made his way over to Clark. Clark grabbed his arm and pulled him a little away from the others. "Pete, I think I might've heard the new meteor freak somewhere."
"Where, and more importantly, when?"
"While I was talking to Lana I was distracted for a second. I glanced up and heard it a noise coming from the south pasture."
Pete nodded. "Well, we should go looking for it then." He turned around and looked at the other five. "What about them?"
Bobby noticed the small huddle that was going on between Clark and Pete. He didn't like being left out of it and decided to make himself known. "So Pete, Clark, what's going on?"
Clark looked at him. "Nothing, we're just talking."
"About what?"
Clark, deciding that lying was the best way out of this, replied, "Um, we were talking about that science exam coming up."
"Bull." Bobby countered. "You were talking about that meteor freak, right?"
Pete let out a sigh. Clark replied back. "Yes, we were talking about it. I might know it's whereabouts and Pete and I were going to go take care of it."
"Not without us." Bobby told him.
This time it was Clark's turn to sigh. He looked at the five for a moment, trying to decide if this was the right thing to do. "Fine, you guys can come with us. Just be careful."
"We will." Pyro replied back, cutting off Bobby. If one thing Pyro hated it was waiting for something to happen.
"Ok, let's go." Clark said.
The ride to the south pasture was about a mile or so from the Kent's home. The pasture itself bordered some woods and was well within vicinity of where the bodies had been found. With Clark driving, Rogue next to him, Pete riding shotgun, and the other's from Xaviers in the back, they made the journey in about ten minutes. It would've been faster had the road not been rained out leaving several nasty gulleys in its wake. The first thing they noticed when the vehicle stopped were several fresh footprints that led out of the woods about twenty feet. They appeared to stopped, then turned back into the woods.
The seven teens got out of the truck and headed into the woods. Inside the woods they spread out. Rogue was a little nervous about being out there which is why she stayed closer to Clark. Clark didn't seem to mind it, though. That's when things went wrong.
Clark was suddenly ambushed. He fell back as the meteor freak pushed to the ground. It then spit out some kind of green liquid in Clark's face, causing him to go blind. Clark screamed out in pain as the liquid meteor rock burned his face. The creature then turned to Rogue who by this time was screaming her head off. It grabbed the left side of her face and threw her againist a tree. Her skull made contact with it and she fell to the ground writhing in pain.
Pete saw the creature attack his friend and looked around frantically trying to find some sort of weapon. He found a large tree limb laying on the ground. Grabbing it, he ran towards the meteor freak. He pulled back and with all his might and lashed out. The limb made contact the creature and shattered into pieces. The creature spun around and clotheslined Pete, sending him to the ground.
The other four mutants heard Rogue's scream and ran towards her. Nightcrawler teleported, seeing as it was easier for him than running. BAMF! He teleported a few feet in front of the creature as his friends finally caught up. Pitor's skin began to turn to steel. John flipped open his Zippo and the flame obediently went into his left hand, dancing around as Bobby held up his right hand; ice forming in it. A tense standoff began between the five.
Pitor broke it when he lunged at the creature, swinging his clenched fists at it. The creature jumped over him and has it began descended it kicked him in the back, the force was enough to send him flying through the woods. Kurt teleported over to his friend to make sure he was ok leaving Pyro and Iceman to the meteor freak.
A stream of ice flew out of Bobby's hand, hitting the creature square in the chest. The ice expanded around him to his arms and his legs. "That should hold him." he said confidently. He was proven wrong when the creature used its strength to break its icy bounds.
Pyro was next. Amplifying the flame in his hand, he shot a constant torch- like flame at the meteor freak. The creature just stood there as the flame encompassed him. John kept the flame like this for nearly a minute before he quit, only to see the creature still standing there. It smiled at both of them then spit the same green substance at John then pouncing on Bobby. The force of the creature's attack knocked Bobby off balance sending to the forest floor.
By this time Clark managed to get some of the green goo off his face and saw the creature standing over a unconscious Bobby, preparing to kill him. Forcing himself up, he staggered over to the monster grabbed him, and flung with incredible force. The next thing he saw was the creature's decapitated corpse lying on the ground. Clark figured that the monster's head must've hit a tree or something but didn't try to debate it. He was to concerned about the others. What he didn't know was that two of them had watched what he'd done.
Kurt Wagner had been tending to an Pitor when he glanced up and saw Clark grabbing the creature and flinging well over twenty feet from where he was standing. Kurt's mouth dropped, not believing what he'd just seen.
Rogue had been temporairily knocked out when she suddenly became conscious. Just as she was shaking off her dizzines she watched as Clark threw the meteor freak through the air. She watched as the monster's head hit a tree and shattered into a million pieces. Her mouth dropped as she looked back up to Clark. 'Oh my god, how'd he do that? Wait, is he, no, it can't be possible. But I just saw that with my own two eyes. Is it possible that Clark Kent is a mutant?'
To be continued... muhahaha.
(Author's notes: Hoped you guys like this. I'll try to start chapter five for this in the next few days. I'm also hoping to get back on the New Guy. See yah!)

See yah!)
