Chp. 6
The next day everyone watched as Clark and Rogue walked through school with their hands clapsed together. Some gasped, thinking that it was a little more than coinicidence that they were together, others pointed, and a few didn't even notice.
Kitty and Jubilee were standing next to their lockers talking when the doors swung open, revealing the happy new couple. Shocked, the two began chattering up a storm, trying to figure out what had happened.
Clark and Rogue rounded a corner and stopped in front of Clark's locker. Bobby and Chloe were a few feet away from them, talking quietly. Out of the corner of his eye, Bobby watched as Rogue gently hugged Clark and headed off for her first class. He would've felt jealous but with his newfound feelings towards Chloe he felt simply, nothing.
Lana watched as Rogue gently hugged Clark and headed away. Jealously boiled over from her. She felt like going over and smacking Clark right in his face. 'How dare he date her!' she fumed. 'He should be with me!' She now knew she had to get back at Rogue. With Clark still busy getting things from his locker, she walked by as quickly as she could and headed after her.
Lana found Rogue next to her locker which was in a hall that had no exit doors or windows. She was too busy fiddling with her locker to see Lana grab her roughly by her shoulders and push her againist the wall.
"Lana, ow! What the hell are you doing?!"
Lana glared at the girl. "You stay away from Clark! He's mine, you understand, you little bitch?!"
This time it was Rogue's turn to push away. "Listen to me, Lana. I don't know what your problem is with me but I do know one thing. Clark likes me. He doesn't like you for some reason, I dunno. Just leave me alone, ok?" Rogue let go of Lana and went back to her locker. Unfortuately, she wouldn't make it. This time Lana grabbed her by her hair and pulled her back. Grabbing her face, Lana was prepared to hit her when all the sudden she stopped. Veins around her body began popping out. Lana looked at Rogue, a feeling of fear passing over her body. Rogue returned it with one of her own as she watched Lana slump to the ground unconscious.
"Clark!! Help!! "
Rogue's scream for help reverberated throughout the halls of Smallville High.
Clark was the first to react. He ran through the halls as fast as he could. If they would've been vacant then he would've simply supersped to her. Once he made it to the hall he first say Rogue standing againist a locker nearly hysterical and an unconscious Lana lying on the ground.
"Rogue, what happened?"
He wrapped his hands and arms around her and pulled her into his embrace. She made no attempt to push him away. He held her close as she spoke.
"Lana, she, oh god. She came up behind me. She said something about being angry with me and you dating, I think. Then she, oh god.." Rogue broke down as a few tears slowly made their way out. She'd never meant to intentionally hurt anyone while on this trip and now it'd happened. Sure, it was an accident, but she couldn't help but feel incredibly guilty about it.
"Clark, she touched me. She touched my skin with her bare hands." she concluded. Clark sympathetically brought his hand and placed it over her cheek, pulling her closer.
Bobby, Jubilee, Kitty, Chloe, and Pete showed up just as Clark pulled Rogue closer to him, his hand resting on her cheek. The three mutants gasped when they saw Lana on the ground and where his hand was. They'd fully expect him to pass out like Lana but it never happened.
Clark could sense some tension that was building up. He turned his head around to see Rogue's three friends just standing there, mouths wide open. 'What are they staring at?' he wondered to himself. Deciding it was best to leave, he gently led Rogue out of the hall where he met up with the Principal and the school nurse. Clark managed to make up a story about how the two girls were talking and all the sudden Lana just passed out. While he did not show it he was genuinely concerned for Lana's well being. Rogue was too distraught to say anything and the two gradually made their ways out of the school and back to the farm.
Bobby pulled Kitty and Jubilee aside. "How did he managed to touch Rogue like that? He'd been in a coma like Lana or worse."
The two girls just looked at one another and shrugged.
Iceman sighed. "Look you two. Go get the others. I think it's time we had a chat with Clark Kent."
Later that night...
Clark sat on the couch with Rogue as she slept. As soon as they'd gotten back to the farm she managed to tell him what had happened with Lana. She told him that she could be out for a month or more because of Rogue's "gifts" although she considered them curses. It was a reminder to Clark about how much he wanted to play football but never could; his parents too afraid he might hurt someone.
Clark gently stroked the Mississippian's hair; she seemed so peaceful when she slept. Rogue had taken her gloves off earlier so that she could be "closer" to Clark via physical touch. They'd figured something in Clark's alien physiology protected him from Rogue's powers.
Two vehicles pulled up outside the Kent's barn. One contained Kurt, John, and Pitor while the other had Kitty, Jubilee, and Bobby. They'd borrowed the vehicles from their host families and were determined to talk to Clark.
Clark heard the sound of two vehicles outside his loft. He quickly x-rayed through the barn's walls and noticed the six people outside were Rogue's friends from Westchester. He remembered that Rogue had told him that they were mutants, like her but with different powers. Seeing as how they were like him, different, he figured that them knowing his secret wouldn't hurt. Besides, they probably figured that he was a mutant himself. 'At least Kurt probably does.' Clark thougth to himself. He gently got up and placed Rogue back on the couch. Kissing her lightly on her forehead, he supersped out of the barn to confront the six teens.
Outside of the barn, the six tried to come up with some sort of way to confront Clark. That's when Kurt told them about that day back when they fought the meteor freak and what Clark had done.
"Then it's settled. Clark's gotta be a mutant." John muttered. The others shook their heads in agreement. If Clark Kent was indeed a mutant he was a bad one. He couldn't be. Clearly from what they'd heard and saw they figured that Clark had been using his powers to help others. Just as Bobby turned around to head into the barn he came face to face with Clark himself.
"Hello Bobby."
Iceman jumped back a little. The others were startled by Clark's words.
"Where's Rogue?" Bobby asked. He may not be dating her anymore but he still cared about her as a friend and was concerned for her well being.
"She's in the loft. Don't worry, she's ok. You can see for yourself if you want." Clark assured him. Bobby nodded and Clark led the others into the barn.
Just as he had promised Rogue was still on the couch deep asleep. Bobby let out a deep breath. 'At least he was telling the truth' he thought.
"Do you mind if we sit down?" asked Pitor. Unlike Bobby he wasn't on edge when he was around Clark. He had not really spoken to him much but the times that he had he'd been shown nothing but courtesy.
"Course." Clark pulled out a chair and passed it over to him. Pitor took it from and nodded. Kitty and Jubes sat on a bale next to him while John leaned againist a roof support, clicking his lighter open and closed casually. Clark made his way back over to the couch and sat down next to Rogue. Bobby and Kurt took up positions around the others before Bobby broke the silence.
"So, Clark, I think we need to talk."
"Yeah, I figured as much." Clark sighed. He turned up to look Bobby straight in his eyes. "I know that your all mutants. Rogue told me."
Bobby nodded, figuring as much. Jubilee physically tensed up a little. Kitty, while trying not to make it so obvious, scooted closer to Pitor. He looked over to her and placed a protective arm around her. She looked up at him and smiled. He returned it with one of his own before looking back to the others.
"Look Clark, well, today I saw you touch Rogue. No normal person would've been able to do that." Bobby told him.
"Your right." Clark said. "No normal person would've been able to do that and be conscious or alive to tell so."
John butted in. "Look, what's the deal with you? Are you a mutant or what?"
"No"
"No? Like what kind of answer is no?" Kitty asked. "You must be. That or a meteor freak. There's no way you could've like been able to stand up to her ability?"
"I'm not a meteor freak. But yes, I have something to do with the meteors," Clark responded. He took a deep breath. "I came with them."
A few mouths dropped. Even John quit clicking his lighter when he heard the news. "Wait, if you came with them, that makes you..."
"..an alien. Yes, your right." Clark finished for him.
Silence.
That's all Clark heard. It was so thick you could've cut it with a knife.
Six sets of eyes trained on him. Watching him, like a hawk. Each mutant wondering about Clark. Each one wandering about his powers, would he lash out againist them for some reason? What planet was he from?
"So, what kind of powers do you have?" Jubilee asked, breaking the uncomfortable silence that had descended upon the loft.
Clark turned to look at her. "Well, I have superspeed and strength, x-ray vision, heat vision, and enhanced hearing."
"Those powers aren't totally different from some of the mutants back at the school." Bobby told him. "Well, except for the heat and x-ray vision. I think the closest we have to that is Kitty and John."
Clark nodded, then asked, "So, what kind of powers do you all have?"
There were a few smiles from the group. If there was one thing that they enjoyed it was showing off their abilities. "So, who want's to start?" asked Bobby.
"I will," Kitty replied. "I can phase my body through different objects or even people." She demonstrated by pulling Pitor up and instantly walked through him. Clark was left speechless. After walking back through him she glanced up to Pitor who was seemed to be blushing profusely. She smiled at him before taking her seat.
"I guess I'll be next," Pitor announced. Before Clark's very eyes Pitor's body turned into steel. "I can turn my skin into steel. It's practically indestructable. Also I'm really strong in this form." Clark nodded again, still amazed as Pitor's skin turned back and he retook his seat.
Next up was Kurt. "Please Clark, before I do anything, I want to tell you something. This is not my true form but merely a holographic disguise. It allows me to go out and interact with others. My true form may be a little, unpleasant..." he trailed off for a little then reached down for the watch. Pressing a button the hologram disappeared.
Clark was shocked by Kurt's real appearence. Instead of a brown hair brown- eyed boy in front of him his skin was now blue with black hair, apparently claws, gold eyes, and was that a tale he saw? The boy looked more like a demon than anything else. But that was nothing compared to what Clark saw next.
BAMF! Instantly, Kurt disappered. BAMF! Kurt reappeared right of Clark, startling him and awakening Rogue in the process. She looked around for a few seconds before Clark explained what was happening. She nodded, understanding, and snuggled closer to Clark.
Jubilee got up. "I can control kinetic energy." (A/N:I've never been real sure of Jubilee's power so if this isn't right somemone let me know. Thanks!) She held up one of her hands and firework-like objects came out of it.
John left where he was standing. "I'm a pyrokinetic. I can control fire. I just can't create it." He held up an open palm and lit his lighter. The fire obediently left it and danced above his hand.
"And I can control ice." Bobby concluded. Opening up his hand, a stream of ice came out and froze the fire that John was holding. John quickly moved his hand and the ice fell to the ground.
"And that folks, concludes the show." John smirked as he pocketed the lighter and leaned back againist a barn support.
"Clark, there's something I want to ask you." Bobby said. "How many people, you know. How many know about your origins?"
"Just my parents, and well, Pete of course." Clark replied back. "He only found out when he found my spaceship last year."
The seven mutants looked at him for a second. "Your space ship? Can we see it?" asked Jubilee.
Clark gritted his teeth. "No. I blew it up last summer. It, well, it was affecting me, mentally." He turned away from the others. "It's something I don't like to talk about. I hope you all will understand."
He received various nods and a few "you got its" from the seven mutants. Relieved, Clark returned his attention to his new friends. He now no longer felt alone because he was different.
The next day everyone watched as Clark and Rogue walked through school with their hands clapsed together. Some gasped, thinking that it was a little more than coinicidence that they were together, others pointed, and a few didn't even notice.
