Sorry for taking so long with this chapter.

Anyways, on with the show!!

Chp. 7

'Indicates individual thoughts.'

The three hour long bus trip to Metropolis was full of memories for both Rogue and Clark. For Rogue, it reminded her of the day when she and her six friends first arrived in Kansas. The first day that she'd met Clark and the fact that her life had been changed forever.

For Clark, it brought out something totally different. It reminded him of Jor-El's never ending torment that had caused him to blow up the ship. It reminded him that his mother had lost the baby and that he'd blamed himself for it. It reminded him of putting on the class ring and running off to Metropolis for the summer in an attempt to hide from the pain. Clark physically tensed up when he saw the "Metropolis City Limits" sign but tried to keep his cool. Coming back here was something he didn't want to do in the first place.

Rogue noticed Clark tensing up a little as they were entering Metropolis. She wondered what had happened to him that would cause him to do such a thing. She set those thoughts aside and snuggled closer to him. She felt safer around him; protected. She'd never felt this way for Bobby but then again she could never touch him like she could with Clark. 'Maybe that's what makes the difference' Rogue thought.

Chloe and Bobby where huddled together in their own seat towards the back of the bus. It wasn't that they were doing anything bad but they both seemed to enjoy their privacy. Chloe was still wondering what had happened to Lana that would've put her in a coma. When she asked Bobby about it he simply shrugged. 'Speaking of Lana, I hope she pulls through on this.' Chloe thought as she went back to talking to Bobby.

All of the sudden the bus came to a stop. Several students were still pulling themselves from the fronts of the seats or the floor.

"What's going on Clark?" Rogue asked as he helped her up.

"I'm not sure." Clark replied. Once Rogue was back in her seat he heard the teacher's announcement.

"Sorry about that everyone. It seems that we just drove into the middle of a demonstration. We'll have to do some back tracking but don't worry we'll still get you all to the museum on time." she said with a smile.

"Well isn't that a relief. Wouldn't want to miss out on a bunch of art." John smirked.

Jubilee frowned but then asked the teacher,"Miss Davis, who exactly is out there and what are they demonstrating over?"

"I'm not sure. Let me check." Miss Davis turned to the bus driver to talk then back to Jubilee. "It's the Friends of Humanity." she told her. "They're demonstrating over mutants."

The words rang in Jubilee's ears. She felt her stomach tighten into knots. Kitty, who'd up till now been talking with her friend and shooting occasional glances at Pitor, suddenly had a sick feeling in her stomach. Pitor noticed Kitty's awkardness and placed on of his hands in her's giving it a reassuring squeeze.

Bobby quit laughing at Chloe and looked ahead as he heard the teacher's announcement. Although he wasn't as worried as the others he knew if they were discovered then it would mean trouble, big time.

John straightened himself up as well. He placed his hand into his pocket making sure his lighter was there. Finding it in its place, he pulled his hand back out and rested it on the back of the seat ahead of him. Unlike the others, he'd had a few dealings with the F.O.H., both before Xavier's and while he was with the Brotherhood. He'd seen some of the terrible things the group was capable of doing. If he was evered cornered by even one of them, he would not hesitate to use his abilities.

While Kurt wouldn't say anything out right he was probably more scared than any of the others. If he lost his image inducer then he would be screwed. Because of how radically different he looked from the other mutants he'd attacked by F.O.H. people in a second.

Rogue's grip around Clark tightened. Like Kitty and Jubilee, she had a terrible knot in her stomach. She was shaking a little. Clark noticed and gave her a gentle squeeze. Rogue looked up to him. 'It'll be ok. Clark's here. Everything will be ok.' she thought over and over again. However, in the farthest regions of her mind, she knew that something terrible would happen today.

The old bus finally pulled up to the museum about thirty minutes later. The 25 or so students that had come on the trip slowly departed and began heading inside.

Once inside, the students began to spread out. Kitty, Jubilee, Kurt, and Pitor went to check out some classic paintings. Chloe and Bobby were causually walking around checking out some sculptures. Clark and Rogue were slightly behind them when all the sudden Clark stopped; his super hearing picking up a faint conversation.

"So, do we have everything?" came a gruff voice.

"Yeah I think so. But I'll make sure and go back over the list one more time just to be sure." a younger, much more enthusiastic voice replied back.

"Good then. Make sure you ship all the weapons back to our men. We need to be scowering the city for mutants in another 20-35 minutes, got it?"

There was some scuffling that went about. "Yes sir, Senator Johnson. We won't let you down!"

"Rogue."

Rogue looked up to Clark. "Yes, what is it?"

"I think were about to have some trouble..."

"What's going on Clark?" Rogue asked.

"I think that the F.O.H. are about to do something." he paused for a second, turning down to meet her eyes. "Something bad."

Rogue tightened her grip around Clark, the bad feeling in her stomach returning again.

"We need to find the others." Rogue nodded. "C'mon, I thought I saw Bobby and Chloe head in here." And with that they went off to round up the other mutants.

While all this was going on the F.O.H. continued to ship out weapons and supplies to their men who were in the city. With today's demonstration in downtown now heading for the Musemum of Art they would have to be ready for anything.

Senator Johnson smiled. He was pleased with the effectiveness of the men he'd brought with him on this assignment. He had high hopes for this one. With the new DNA scanners and control collars provided to him by LuthorCorp., they would be able to find any mutants in the demonstration and with the collars keep their powers in check. This way, they could transport them away for execution or study, whichever his superiors preferred.

Several boxes of guns, scanners, and control collars were loaded onto the back of a truck. Once full, the truck would its deadly cargo to the F.O.H. groups that had spread themselves out amongst the city, with the heaviest concentration being at the demonstration itself. Senator Johnson smiled to himself again. 'Today, we'll kill ourselves some mutants.'

Once Clark and Rogue found the others he filled them in on what he'd heard. He wasn't sure where the sounds came from but they were somewhere close. "They'll be heading this way in about another twenty minutes." he told them as they walked through the museum.

"Do you think we should try to leave?" Jubilee asked. "Maybe we should try to get the others and get out of here."

"That won't work." Bobby interjected. "What are we going to tell the teacher? That we're mutants and the F.O.H. will be out there looking for us?"

"Bobby, this isn't the time for sarcasm." Rogue snapped back. The teens were still silent till Kurt broke it. "So, what do we do?"

"Hey, what are you guys doing over here? The rest of the tour is at the west wing of the museum." The seven mutants and one alien were brought out of there thoughts when Chloe came walking up. Without even thinking about it, she placed one of her hands in his. "C'mon you guys. We need to catch up with the others!" She tugged at Bobby to get him to follow her. Reluctantly, he and the others followed.

The F.O.H truck finally pulled to the back of the museum. Several men piled out of it and joined other F.O.H. members that had been waiting on them. They soon piled into the truck, unloading the remaining AK-47's, scanners, and collars that had been provided for them.

"Good. Good work gentleman." came Senator Johnson's cryptic voice. "In a few minutes, we'll be hunting mutants and their supporters!" Several cheers came from the men who'd stopped unloading to listen to their leader. "Today will be a glorious day for the Friends of Humanity! All of you today will be remembered for helping to curb the mutant crisis!" Again more cheers followed by a cynical Senator Johnson laughing.

The members of the F.O.H took up positions around the demonstration area. Several pro-mutant and anti-mutant supporters had congregated in the vicinity.

Each member of the F.O.H had their guns wrapped up in a trench coat of some kind, with the collars and scanners partially. There were about 10 or so groups of three to five men searching the crowds for mutants. While they'd hoped to find a few pro mutant supporters around they hadn't expected this. The amount of pro supporters vs. anti's was about equal. This would ruin the F.O.H.'s plans of getting them, but they knew that if they were patient, they'd snag a mutant or two.

The teens had finally managed to get out of the museum through a side entrance. The group was heading back to the bus, with the seven mutants, one Kryptonian, and Chloe tailing behind a little. Though not wise, they'd hoped that Chloe would rejoin the other humans while they could discuss their plan.

They were almost back to the bus when all the sudden they ran into a group of about 10 F.O.H members. Their scanners rang like mad. "Mutants!" One screamed.

"Get those stinkin' muties!" yelled another.

And the battle was on.

Bobby grabbed Chloe and threw her out of the way as an F.O.H. member tried to get the collar on him. Instead, Iceman froze his feet to the ground making it impossible for him to move. The young man dropped the collar just as Bobby brought back his right fist and decked him.

Two of the men ran after Kitty and Jubilee. Kitty hastily grabbed her friend and phased through the wall of the museum. The two men stopped abruptly.

"Where'd they go?" the first one asked.

"I don't know but keep your guard up," the second sneered. "These mutants are clever."

Before they knew it Kitty and Jubilee reappeared right in front of them. Jubilee held up her hands as the firework looking kinetic energy left them and blinded their foes. The two men were on the ground screaming in pain, giving the girls enough time to make their escapes.

Pitor's steel plated skin appeared just as one of the Humanity members tried shooting him with his gun; the bullets fell to the ground harmlessly. Colassus grabbed the mand and threw him againist a dumpster. The impact was enough to make the man black out.

John flicked open his lighter. The flame danced in his hands as two of the F.O.H. members cornered him at the end of an alley.

"So what are you going to do, freak?" one of the sneered.

"You gonna burn us with that?" the other asked, pointing to the flame in Pyro's hand.

Pyro only smiled.

He threw a huge fireball at the two men. Their screams and pleas of help were heard by no one as they burned to death.

Kurt was having his own troubles. BAMF! He teleported away from one of the men. The Humanity member turned, angrily, towards Kurt. He pulled out his gun and was about to shoot him when.

BAMF!!

Kurt teleported right in front of the man in a spin. His feet made contact with the mans skull while his now exposed tail grabbed the gun, forcing the barrel skywards. This helped deflect the bullet that was fired from hitting anyone.

While all of this was going on no one seemed to notice that Chloe had been apprehanded by one of the Friends of Humanity members. The man had her handcuffed and lying on the ground with a small cut to her forehead. She was whimpering in pain, with tears coming down her cheeks.

"Clark! Help!!" Rogue was yelling at the top of her lungs. One of the men had successfully been able to attach a collar to her neck and now was after her. Her ability to suck people's lifeforce's had now been numbed, making her completely defenseless.

Clark heared Rogue and supersped in front of her. Rogue ran behind him while Clark grabbed the young man, who looked no older than Clark himself, and threw a good thirty feet from where he stood. Turning around, Clark checked to see if Rogue was ok. She seemed fine so Clark turned his attention back to his adversary.

The young man's rifle lay in shambles so he pulled out a knife and ran at Clark as fast as he could. Aiming for his heart he drove the knife downwards. To his amazement, as well as the other F.O.H.'s that were still conscious and the mutants, the knife shattered into a million pieces. Fright replaced the once confident face of the young man. Seeing as how he could no longer could do anything he turned and tried to run. But not before Clark grabbed him and threw him into an open dumpster. Clark slammed the lid of the dumpster down and sealed it with his heat vision.

Clark walked up to Rogue. Gently, he ripped off the collar that had been constricting her of her powers. Rogue smiled and hugged him. Then she looked over Clark's shoulder.

And freaked.

Chloe was still on her knees, her mouth wide open. From Bobby's freezing the man's legs to Clark's superspeeding, she'd seen it all. Only one thought crossed her mind.

'My god, they're all mutants. Even Clark.'

Even as the thought registered in her mind Clark was working on a way to save her. Seeing that the F.O.H member was still in a daze, he supersped to him. Grabbing the man's rifle he gave the Humanity member a shove againist the wall knocking him out cold.

Bobby ran up to Choe. She looked him in the eyes then turned to Clark. He turned her around and ripped the handcuffs off of her. Chloe turned back around and looked as the other mutants walked back to them. She felt like an outsider amongst these super-human teens. She also felt fear.

Fear of them.

Fear of a boy who she'd met only a month and only up till now begin to see as more than a friend.

Fear of a girl that wore gloves constantly and didn't like to be touched. Lana, now she understood what'd happened.

Fear of a boy that had she'd known since the eight grade and considered a best friend only to find out that he was something so much more.

Chloe huddled back to wall tripping a little over the F.O.H. member who was still out cold. She brought her knees up to her head, tears streaming out of eyes. She started rocking back and forth a little while begging to them, "Please don't hurt me..."

Bobby knealt down next to her. "Chloe, baby. It's me, Bobby. She looked up to him. Into his blue eyes. She didn't see Bobby. What she saw scared her and she began to rock a little faster now. Bobby tried to place a reassuring hand on her shoulder but she jerked away at his touch. "No, stay away from me!" she yelled to him. A hurt Bobby pulled himself up.

Clark was about to suggest something when his super-hearing detected something. More F.O.H. members were heading there way. They had to get out of there. "Look, can you guys make it back to the bus on your own?" he asked them.

Bobby conversed with the other mutants. "Yeah, what's going on?"

"We've got company coming." Clark told him. "You guys head on back to the bus. I'll take Chloe and meet you in Smallville."

Bobby frowned. "Why, can't we just take her wit hus?"

"No." Clark replied. "She's in shock, I think. If she were on the bus it could put all of us in danger."

"He like, has a point," Kitty told him.

Bobby let out a sigh. "Ok, we'll meet you back at your place tonight?"

"Yeah sounds good. Around nine or so." Clark could hear the men getting closer. He reaced down and began to pick up Chloe.

Chloe struggled with Clark. "Please don't. Please don't..." she begged as she broke out into sobs. Iceman placed a small kiss on her forehead as he and the other mutants made for the bus while Clark and Chloe super sped back to the Kent Farm.
