X-Ville Chapter nine.

(A/N's: Chapter nine is broken down into two parts. I hope to have the second one posted in a few days.)

After finding out about Clark's secret, Chloe seemed okay about it. She walked through Smallville High's halls with Bobby around her shoulder and a new view of the world in her mind. She glanced over to Bobby who smiled back to her. Her cheeks turned a little red. 'God he's cute when he smiles,' she thought, as the two entered the Torch office.

Clark, Rogue, and Pete were already there. Clark and Rogue were reading about the supposed 'mutant attack' that had occured in Metropolis the previous day. Pete was reading through something on another computer, but seemed to be acting secretive about it.

"Whatcha lookin' at Pete?" Chloe asked, having an idea of what he was viewing.

"N-Nothing Chloe," the young man replied.

Chloe grabbed his hand and swung it off the monitor. "Ha! I knew it!" she said triumphantly. The two other teens in the room glanced over in their direction.

"What are you looking at Pete?" Clark asked his friend. "Anytime Rogue or I headed over there you were turning off the screen for some reason."

"I'll show you what he was looking at!" Chloe exclaimed. She grabbed the monitor and swung it in the other's direction despite Pete's objections. They looked at the monitor and burst out into laughter.

"I don't think it's that funny!" Pete fumed. He grabbed the monitor and turned it back around. The computer's internet explorer was currently on edate.com, a popular online dating service.

The laughter managed to die down for a second. "Pete, why in the world are you looking at something like that for? I mean, your one of the slickest guys I know when it comes to getting the ladies," Clark stated.

Pete ducked down behind the monitor. "I know, Clark. But that's just the thing. I haven't had a date in over a year and I'm kinda, desperate." He poked his head back up to meet Clark's and the others. "Besides, the winter formal is coming up and I'd hate to go just by myself."

Clark nodded. He'd remembered reading about it in the Torch just before the whole incident in Metropolis. He wanted to take Rogue to it but he'd been a little preoccupied with the fight plus dealing with an over-hyper Chloe to really ask her.

Chloe just shook her head as Pete told Clark why he was on the site. She sat down on the couch that occupied the Torch office. Bobby sat down next to her and stole a quick kiss. Chloe giggled, obviously pleased with the show of affection. Then he leaned over towards her, whispering something into her ear. Chloe looked back to him. Her facial expression seemed to go from happieness, to shock, then to excitement. She squealed in delight and hugged Bobby. The only things the others could make out were her saying "Yes, I'll go with you!"

It took Rogue only a second to figure out what had happened. She folded both her hands in front of her and glanced to Clark, putting on a mock display of hurt and shooting him a glance that just said *Why haven't you asked me to the dance yet?* Clark, deciding that asking her right now might save him from her wrath later, went over to her.

"Um, Rogue, look, um..." He trailed off for a second as Rogue continued to stare at him. "Um, that dance that's coming up, I uh, well, I was just wanting to..."

"...know if I'd like to go with you to the dance?" she finished the question for him. Clark blinked. "Um yeah."

Rogue smiled at him. "I'd love too." She wrapped her arms around him and pulled him into a kiss. When she pulled away he flashed her a million-watt smile that just made weak in the knees.

"Oh why don't you four just go get a room!" came a over-exaggerated plea from the door. The four teens blushed as a young Asian woman entered the Torch. She looked around the room for a second till her eyes came across the object of her search.

Pete.

"Hi, Pete," she said as she made her way to the desk he was sitting at.

"Um, hi, Jubilee," he replied back, uneasily.

She pulled up a chair next to him as he was struggling to log off the internet. He glanced in her direction with an uneasy smile. She returned it with one her own which seemed to be filled with a little determination and a whole lot of uncertainty.

"So," she stated, trying to keep herself cool, "Pete, I just saw a flyer for the dance." She stopped and looked at him. "Do you have a date for it? And if not, would you care to go with me?"

What? Was somebody actually wanting to go out with him? On a date? Pete couldn't think. He wanted to open his mouth and say something but his brain refused to cooperate. Finally, he managed to say something.

"Um, yeah, I'd love to go with you," he replied to her.

Jubilee tried not to let her happieness show. "Hey that's great. How about we get together later and discuss this some more?"

"Sure. How about after school at the Talon?" he asked her.

"Sounds great." Jubilee got up and tried not to hurry out the door. Once she was out of the Torch she ran off to find Kitty. She had to find her and tell her what she'd done and then the two girls would do one of their favorite activites. Shopping!

Pete smile to Clark after Jubilee left. "Oh yeah man. I still got it." He leaned back in his chair placing his feet on the desk with his hands laced together behind his head, a smile plastered all over his face.

Mean while, back in Metropolis....

A bus in the industrial section of the city sat, its engine idling. On board it were 30 men. Thirty Friends of Humanity members. Each one itching to kill the mutants that attacked their friends and comrades the day before.

"Men, we're about to head off for Smallville. The three mutants that we've been able to identify are currently residing there. From what inteligence we have so far they attacked the others. There may have been more of them helping as well. We haven't been able to positively back this theory up yet." Senator Johnson paused for a second. "We've been able to secure an abandoned warehouse in Smallville. It will serve as our base of operations during our stay there." He turned to the driver. "Let's head out."

"Yes, sir," the man replied as the bus made its way to Smallville.

Back at Smallville....

After school Clark and Rogue raced home. When I say raced home I mean that Clark supersped while carrying Rogue. When they arrived in front of the farm house Rogue only had one thing to say.

"Wow. That was incredible."

Clark chuckled and headed inside, Rogue following him. They had no specific plans that night so Clark had decided to goto the hospital and visit with Lana for a little while. Rogue decided to stay behind. She still felt bad for putting Lana into the coma in the first place and didn't feel like seeing her.

Smallville Medical Center...

Clark, Pete, and Chloe sat around Lana's bed. Bobby had come with Chloe but had stayed outside the room so Chloe could spend time with her friend.

"Hey Lana, how are you?" Chloe asked her as she took her hand. She looked up to her friends.

"She can hear us, right?" the blonde asked her friends.

"That's what the doctor told us." Pete told her. Chloe nodded. She hated seeing Lana like this. She knew that what happened between Lana and Rogue was an accident but still, seeing her friend here was not comforting.

"Well Lana, when you get out of here we can go shopping together." Chloe felt herself beginning to tear up. "I remember you telling me that you were wanting that pink sweater at Goody's a few days ago. We should go by there and check it out when you're better."

Chloe turned to her friends. "I'm sorry, I need to go." Clark and Pete gave her sympathizing glances as she told Lana goodbye and headed out to be with Bobby.

Pete looked down to Lana. "I still wonder how she got into a coma all the sudden," he told Clark. Clark only shrugged. They stayed with her a few more minutes before leaving.

The four were soon back in Chloe's car. Chloe, in need of caffiene, pulled into the Talon. She and Bobby got out to get their drinks leaving Pete and Clark to themselves.

"Hey, Clark. While you guys were in Metropolis did you hear about the Friends of Humanity?" Pete asked his friend. "I heard they ran into some mutants near the art museum."

Clark nodded, reluctantly. He wasn't really in the mood to talk about it. "Yeah, what about it, Pete?"

"Nothing, I guess. I just figured while you were up there you might have seen something," Pete responded.

Clark thought for a minute. Pete knew his secret. Could he be trusted knowing that the seven exchange students were mutants? The question nagged at him until the sound of Chloe and Bobby's car doors opening brought him back to reality.

"Hey you guys, I need to stop by the Torch for a few seconds. You don't mind waiting, do you?" Chloe asked. The others shook their heads no. Chloe started the car back up as they headed off.

Once at the school the four got out. Chloe and Pete went inside while Bobby and Clark stayed outside.

"Hey, Bobby, can I talk to you for a second?" Clark asked his friend.

"Yeah, sure," Bobby told him.

"Well, it's about Pete," Clark told him. "He know's about my secret. I was just kind of thinking that maybe we could tell him about you guys."

Bobby straightened himself. "Do you think that's such a good idea?"

Clark nodded. "Yes I do. He's kept mine for this long. You can trust him."

Bobby thought for a minute. "I'll talk it over with the others and get back with you."

"That's all I ask," Clark told him as his friends came out of the school.

Smallville Industrial Park....

The Friend's of Humanity's bus pulled into the warehouse about three and a half hours later. Like a trained military unit the people riding onboard disembarked. Some began to unload their weapons. Others were setting up communications equipment and computers. One was busy going over their supply of control collars and DNA scanners. He stopped as he saw Senator Johnson approach him.

"At ease, son," The older man told him. The young man nodded and went back to what he was doing. The senator continued walking amongst his soldiers observing their actions. 'Soon, very soon, we'll have our revenge against you mutant freaks...' he thought.
