There were plenty of other girls he could have asked to help revive his clan. One Hyuuga Hinata would have been a good choice. She had a bloodline limit and was quite possibly one of the strongest kunoichi in the village. There was also TenTen, a female with deadly aim and a talent with weaponry.
But no, he chose her when there were many other people to consider. Maybe it was the resemblance. She was not weak. Far from it, actually. And she did not run away from her battles whether they be mental or physical. Whatever he threw at her, she threw back.
They did not really love each other. Neither one of them was interested in the other that way. She was in it out of spite; she wanted to hurt her for abandoning her not once, but twice.
Maybe it was because once she took off the -kun that she tacked onto his name, she sounded like him.
