A Silent Tear

Someone sheds a silent tear
For the suffering soul of another
Who once was closer than a brother
So far away, yet somehow, so near.
Sparkling, glimmering, in shadowed night
From where it chanced and fell
There are few who can tell,
Or know how came to shine so bright.

The tear slowly spun a silent tale,
Of great love and great pain,
Of much loss and gain,
Of a face, careworn, and pale.
It told of aching bodies, pressing on
A world wearied mind
Strength evermore hard to find
And a candle of hope dimming, almost gone.

All naivety has long been left behind
In an innocent, forgotten land,
Not yet fallen at the hand
Of the corrupt and deadly mind.
Dreams have long been torn apart
Lost in devouring darkness
Replaced with a lonely desert of starkness,
Crushed within an iron grasp and icy heart.

Can courage ever replace the fear
In the most childlike heart,
Never created to part
With all it treasures so dear?
Can there be such a friend,
Who, through trial and toil,
Will remain eternally, unselfishly loyal,
Spirited until the bitter end?

The tear falls, and splashes on barren ground
And no one will ever know,
For he will never think to show,
And he'll never make a sound.
He willingly walks towards his death
But will never voice his fear
Save for one single, silent tear,
That fell mingled with breath.

Someone shed a silent tear
For the suffering soul of another
Who once was closer than a brother
So far away, yet somehow, so near.
Sparkling, glimmering in the glowing sunrise
From where it chanced and fell
Only one can ever tell,
It slipped from the gentle gardener's eyes.
