What had Ranma been thinking? Akane Tendou walked along the streets of Nerima, feeling the chill cut through her pajamas. She barely felt it. All she could think about was Ranma. With wavering eyes, Akane lifted her face to gaze at the moon.
'What were you thinking, you idiot?' she thought again numbly, more as an accusation than a question. She was walking along the path they usually took on their way to Furinkan High School. The metal wire fence Ranma walked on everyday shone dully under the moonlight.
'Why do you go off and do so many stupid things?' She fingered the metal wire fence, looking at the water channel just past the metal point. She stood still for a few more moments. Numbly and not in the right mind, she pulled herself up, using the metal links as holds. She stood on the narrow length of metal with her arms outstretched from either side.
It was harder to balance than she'd thought. Yet Ranma walked along this path with ease. At the thought of Ranma, Akane's vision blurred. How many times had he jumped in to do dim-witted things? She'd lost count.
Finally, she was able to stand straight without holding her arms out. Her focus lay on the straight narrow path of metal before her. Tentatively, she stepped forward and was surprised to feel a breeze fan her face. She'd never felt it when walking on the pavement. From this elevation, the wind was more prominent.
She took another hesitant step forward... and another. One foot went after the other in mounting confidence. Faster... quicker... Akane broke into a brisk walk along the metal fencing. Her feet found the next narrow length of metal with growing ease each step.
And then she was running. The cool night air breezed past her face, into and through her hair. The world was just a muted blur below her as she ran past it all as fast as she could, finally understanding what Ranma felt.
Every passing breeze, every faint sensation, every far-off blinking glow in the distance.
Everything came together in a great feeling of abandon.
