This is a one-shot about a book I read called 'Dancing Naked'. It was brilliant and extraordinarily written. Please review!

The price of life

Kia looked out over the sea with tears in her eyes. The powerful ocean turned into an unsure and depressing swirl of blues and greens as her vision blurred. It was much like her emotions she thought, feeling desperately frustrated. Why did I have to spend that night with Derek? Why didn't I have the abortion? Why can't I keep her...?

There she sat on the cliff top overlooking the sea, overwhelmed by a fresh wave of emotion. Tomorrow is The Day, she thought sullenly. The day when I have to give her up. For good. To her new parents. The tears came furiously and she felt worse than ever before. As the sun set with an array of pinks and oranges Kia felt a hand on her shoulder. She looked up into the warm, comforting eyes of Justin and broke down into tears again. Justin held her and slowly guided her back to her house.

Kia stood before the mirror. She looked pale and lost and was in a trance of sorts. She moved like a robot, not taking in her surroundings or listening to anyone around her. She heard a car pulling into the driveway and, a few minutes later, a knock at the door. Slowly she turned, picked up the sleeping bundle, and answered the door. With a silent nod of recognition, she slid into Justin's car.

Half an hour later Kia stood before the priest weakly holding the bundle. She felt she was falling into an endless pit of depression and loneliness and didn't even feel Justin's hand on her shoulder. In the distance she heard the priest say,

"Kia it is now time to give the baby to her new parents."

She took some time to register this, then slowly put one foot in front of the other. It was the hardest thing Kia had ever done and she wanted more than anything to keep her baby. Every step seemed weighed down and it felt like forever before she reached Sadie and Brett. She passed the baby to them and somehow managed to get back to Justin before falling into his arms. She was exhausted and felt like she had been jumping hurdles for the past nine months. The priest asked softly,

"Do you want to say goodbye?"

Kia shook her head and stayed with her head tucked into Justin's jumper. Faintly she heard footsteps and the click of the door.
