I was going to see my uncle with dread in my heart. I had just received a letter from the clinic telling me to go see him there now. It was only ten minutes ago that he set off into the forest of Faydark to forage some roots and berries for supper.
Departing from my home in the treetop city of Kelethin I set off with fleetness of foot for the clinic. A shortcut through the forest canopy helped me get there in no time. I entered the clinic and immediately felt a sense of trepidation as I saw three Elven Clerics dressed in starched, white robes hovering over my uncle's bed with looks of regret in their eyes. I rushed to my uncle's comatose body and began to question one of the hierophants.
"What has happened to him?"
"He was stung by a giant wasp drone. The venom is potent and our magic will only slow the inevitable. Unless..."
"Unless what? Tell me! If there is a way to save him then I will do anything that I can to help."
"Go into the forest and kill a giant wasp warrior. Bring me its venom sac. I will be able to concoct a cure with it. Here, take your uncle's sword, you will need it. Be quick, there's not much time."
Strapping the ancient sword to my side I headed into the forest. Using the tracking techniques that I my uncle taught me I quickly found suitable prey. With its giant stinger it certainly seemed very formidable. I drew my uncle's tarnished scimitar and charged.
I slashed at its abdomen but its rough, chitinous skin seemed to ignore the blow. It turned toward me and brandished its stinger. I whirled around and ran but it soon caught up with me using its powerful wings. Realizing that running was futile I spun around and charged at my flying adversary as a last ditch effort to save my life.
I slashed at it again. The blade of the scimitar shattered upon impact. Fortunately it was a critical hit and the wasp's lifeless body floated to the ground. I quickly used my whittling knife to cut out the wasp's venom sac and set off with the spirit of a wolf towards the clinic. Wasting no time I handed the venom sac to the quest giving archon.
"Excellent. I can now brew a potion that can cure your uncle. I suggest that you go home and get some sleep. Your uncle will be fine."
"Thank you." My heart felt a sudden relief. I went home and the next morning I was awoken by my uncle's questions about my quest to save his life.
