Authors Note: This is my first story and usually I'm not big on romance but
I didn't think people ever really did Lily and James' story right so I
think I shall take it into my own hands.
And I apologize ahead for my grammar errors. I was never really taught grammar due to several very bad spectrum (advanced English teachers) who assumed that I knew everything, so if you could please correct my grammar or at least tell me when I am making a mistake.
I'm sorry if this is also a tad bit cliché or like a soap opera. But isn't that what most people's lives are like?
Chapter 1
Lily's fiery red hair glinted in the sunlight as she stepped onto Platform 9 and ¾'s. All around her students hurried by. The noise around her was familiar. She could hear the voices of first years sadly saying goodbye to their parents, the voices of parents reminding their fifth years to study hard. The atmosphere seemed to welcome her. It felt so good to be back at Hogwarts. It would be good to finally feel at home and not be hated. Not that Lily hated her parents or they hated her, it was just Petunia. Well she, Lily, didn't hate her; in fact they used to be close until Lily had gotten her letter. Now Petunia hid in her room or spent all day out with her friends and muttered freak under her breath every time Lily passed. Petunia hated Lily, ashamed of her magic. She was one of those people who tried to hard to stay in touch with reality, to be what was normal. She wanted nothing to do with those that pulled her away from her false illusion of life. It would be nice to be with all the other 'freaks' again.
Lily stepped into the train. She pushed her way through the throng of students and immediately found a compartment. She left her things in there and reported to the head compartment. She had been made head girl and so she gave her instructions to the prefects along with James who had surprisingly made head boy. Lily personally thought he didn't deserve it after all the detentions he had and all the points he had lost. And Lily sadly thought about the living quarters they would have to share. But it was just a common room. She was sure she could avoid him.
Lily walked back to the compartment she had found earlier and took out a sketch book and began to draw a fairy dancing through the streets of London, surrounded by modern people and buildings. It was a vision Lily often got that reminded her of how she felt at home, a being that clearly was lost in the wrong place. There she waited until Claire came. Claire was Lily's best friend. They had met in their first year in the Great Hall waiting to be sorted. They nervously introduced themselves, and since that first awkward meeting they haven't been parted.
Claire was beautiful in Lily's eyes. But it seemed that no one else could appreciate Claire or at least none of the boys ever could. Claire was 6, 0" and towered over Lily who was only 5, 7". Claire had midnight black hair that fell down to her shoulders. It was jet straight and usually pulled back in a ponytail. She had deep blue eyes that seemed to hold your gaze. Her skin contrasted her hair, it was paler then even Lily's and had an eerie glow. But it suited Claire's personality. She was what some called weird but Lily thought Claire was the best thing in the world. She was shy and talented. She was exceptionally quiet around those she didn't know, but though Claire was shy in everyday surrounds put her on a soccer field and she was plain scary. Claire had been a soccer player for most of her life before she got her letter and still competed over the summer. Because of her soccer abilities she was one of the best Chasers Hogwarts had ever seen. And though people were always talking to her, Claire still never felt comfortable unless she was with Lily or Dylan. She was an eccentric person and was usually was off in another world daydreaming.
Lily was not only beautiful in Claire's eyes but also in the eyes of many of the other students. She had curly red hair that cascaded in ringlets down her back. Her almond shaped green eyes caught the attention of many. She was tall though not as tall as Claire and was built like a model, extremely skinny, whereas Claire who was skinny but it was more of an athletic type of thinness. Lily was definitely not athletic, she was an actress. Or at least she was until she came to Hogwarts but like Claire she pursued her interests over the summer. Lily was described as pensive. She was often found immersed in a book. And because of her love of reading Lily was the most intelligent student in class. None could beat her in classes even Remus fell short of Lily. But grades were not all that mattered to her; Lily had a passion for art. She had a talent that few possessed and she had filled books and books of drawings.
"Lily!" Claire screamed as she pulled her friend into a hug, "it's so great to finally see you how have you been?"
"Good, I had a huge play last week, so I'm kind of bummed out about it being over. But that's ok, what have you been up to?" Lily said as she pulled away.
"Well I just got back from this huge soccer tournament in Germany and we won."
"That's so cool Claire. How many goals did you score?" Lily said with a smile.
"Four."
"I take it that that's good," Lily said pretending to be ignorant of the sport because it bugged Claire.
"You know it is I told you last year when I explained it to you for the lets see..."
"200th time," they said in unison laughing.
So what have you done this summer other then soccer?"
"Oh nothing..." Claire said but was interrupted by their friend Dylan.
Dylan was the third and final friend of their group. Dylan had found her friendship in second year. She had marched up to Claire and Lily, introduced herself and then started talking. Dylan was outgoing enough for the three of them. She had light short brown hair that was cut jaggedly. She had tan skin and was in a sense the opposite of Lily and Claire. She was a strong, stubborn, intelligent girl. Lily and Claire were smart to but Dylan was witty. She was spunky. She was hilarious in that kind of way that everyone thinks is funny. She was loved breaking rules and pushing it to the limits. Dylan was also athletic well not just athletic. She was a runner, fighter, musician, you name it Dylan could do it. She was short and small but her height was no obstacle. She was someone that no one ever messed with. She was in a sense the protector of Lily and Claire. She was talkative, friendly, and though she was not as beautiful as Lily or Claire she was often envied for her courage and her cleverness. Her chestnut eyes sparkled as she walked in.
"Hey kiddos!"
"Dylan! Where have you been?" Claire inquired giving Dylan a hug.
"Oh my mum was late so I just got here, almost missed the train. But we had to go see my brothers early morning hockey game." Dylan's little brother, Ben was her pride and joy. She would never miss any of his games.
"Isn't your brother turning 11 next year?" Lily asked.
"Yea, so he'll be coming to Hogwarts, sad that I'll be leaving after this year. But oh well Ben can look after himself." Dylan's entire family was pureblood unlike Lily's and Claire's so Ben had already been introduced into the world of magic.
"He'll be fine Dylan," Claire said noticing Dylan's worry, "he has quite a reputation to live up to with his sister being the best keeper."
"Awe shut up," Dylan hit Claire over the head but at the same time smiled.
The talk turned to Quidditch and then to summer and then to the future. They caught up on the two months they had missed and the time passed quickly. In what seemed like minutes Lily looked out and saw the sky darkening.
"We had better change into our robes," Lily said.
"We're here already, wow that was fast," Dylan said as she stood up and stretched.
They got dressed and walked outside. The night was perfectly clear. The stars shone down on the carriages illuminating them in the eerie moonlight. Claire shivered as the thestrals marched up. She was the only one who could see them but Dylan and Lily knew about it. And when they walked toward the carriage Claire began shaking violently. Dylan put an arm around her and steered her into one of the carriages.
They arrived at Hogwarts in a matter of minutes and made their way towards the Great Hall. They were bustled against the students who were all hastily walking towards the feast.
"Shit," Dylan cried as they entered last of all the students.
"What?' Lily asked, snapping out of thought.
"Over there," Dylan pointed. Lily and Claire followed her finger and saw the only seats left at Gryffindor's table was in front of the famous Marauders.
It was common knowledge that Lily did not like them very much. And though Claire and Dylan really didn't have a major problem with them, they respected Lily and avoided them.
"Oh well," said Claire as she fighting her way through the field of students to the empty seats.
As they sat down James, Remus, and Sirius glanced over at them, and then continued laughing to themselves. James looked over at Lily and then ruffled his hair. Lily rolled her eyes. But to the surprise of many Dylan looked and Remus and began to talk to him. This was something that had never happened. Lily, Claire, and Dylan had stayed clear of the Marauders since third year and after what happened in fifth year they didn't even bother to acknowledge their presence. But now out of nowhere Dylan was breaking the unspoken rule.
"Hello Remus how was your holiday?" Dylan made eye contact with Lily and smiled. Lily ignored her and looked at Claire who just shook her head.
Remus looked taken aback but quickly replied, "Umm...pretty good and yours?"
"It was amazing. I'll have to tell you about it later." Dylan was interrupted by the headmaster who had begun his annual speech.
Lily zoned out at the first words. But when he had finally finished Lily reached over and piled potatoes onto her plate. She began to talk to Claire about her play, Hamlet, which she had just finished. Through bits of potatoes and chicken Lily described the set and costumes. In the midst of their conversation Lily leaned forward to take a sip of pumpkin juice and overheard James and Sirius talking about their most recent adventure, a trip to America. Uninterested, Lily turned back to Claire, who was avidly listening to Remus and Dylan.
After the feast Lily said goodnight and headed toward the head's room. She found the portrait of the four founders said the password in a hushed whisper and walked up the stairs to her room. She glanced up at the deep blue walls and canopy bed before falling into a deep sleep.
And I apologize ahead for my grammar errors. I was never really taught grammar due to several very bad spectrum (advanced English teachers) who assumed that I knew everything, so if you could please correct my grammar or at least tell me when I am making a mistake.
