Chapter 11
The cold December wind hit Lily hard in the face as she stepped off of the Hogwarts Express. Her curls, which she had stupidly left down, whipped around her face. Her cheeks were rosy from the cold but she was still smiling. Dylan jumped out from behind her full of energy.
"Finally, I thought it would never be over!" Dylan said scanning the crowd for Ben, her brother.
Claire stepped out gracefully behind them yawning.
"Oh, look Petunia came with them. That's a first," Lily said pointing out her older sister to her friends.
"That's her?" Claire asked.
"She looks nothing like you," Dylan said which was true. Petunia was tall and lanky like Lily but that was where their similarities ended. Petunia had beady little eyes and a long tall neck. Her wispy brown was down and blowing around her face. As soon as she spotted Lily she scowled.
"Well she looks happy to see you," Claire said sarcastically.
"Yep, she just can't wait for all those fun times," Lily said coldly.
"Well, at least you'll get to be with us for most of the Holiday," Dylan said.
"Oh yea Dill, I've been meaning to ask, what time do you want us over?" Claire asked.
"Umm...come on Christmas Eve at around noon so we can get everything settled," Dylan said.
"Well I shall see you two later," Lily said walking towards her family.
"Bye Lils," they called after her.
Lily walked over to her mother first and gave her a big hug.
"It's good to see you again Mums."
"I've missed you so much Lily Billy," her mom said using her pet name for Lily.
"Daddy!" Lily squealed giving him big hug.
"It's good to see you again kiddo. How was the term?" her father said.
"Good, it's harder then I expected, keeping up with all my N.E.W.T classes."
"Well you can do Lily," her father said smiling. He was very proud of his daughter becoming a witch and being a good one at that. He often bragged on her which made Petunia extra mad.
"Hello Petunia," Lily said attempting to smile at her.
Petunia said nothing and only scowled.
"Petunia, don't be rude, say hello to you sister," her mother scolded.
"Hello," Petunia said so her mother could hear her then under her breath, "freak."
"Thanks," Lily whispered harshly.
Her Christmas Holidays were not off to a good start and she had yet to ask her mum about going to Dylan's house.
Claire had just promised to owl Dylan when her mum pulled her into a hug.
"We've missed you honey," her mother said.
"I've missed you to mom."
"Claire," her father said sternly, "Have you been keeping up her grades?"
Claire smiled; her father was very big on her education. He wanted her to go far. "Yes father, my grades are very good."
"Good," he said satisfied.
"Shall we get going its rather chilly," her mom said ushering them out of the train station.
Claire walked out deep in thought. Her parents had never known about what she had been doing to herself after Jade died. They knew she had been diagnosed depressed but they rarely mentioned it anymore. They tried their best to put it and Jade behind them though at home there was still a faint trace of Jade left. Old family pictures of her stood on the mantle piece. They were snapshots of their old life the one unaffected by death. Claire sighed maybe it would be best if she could let go too but every time she thought about Jade's face penetrated her mind.
Dylan ran over to her brother and jumped on him, "BENNY!"
"Dill!" he said laughing his blond hair blowing in the breeze.
"How have you been? How's hockey? Team win?"
"It's been good, we won championships and I've been given a chance to try out for the national youth team."
"That's awesome, but you know I'm going to have to teach you Quidditch soon. You're going to be an amazing chaser."
Dylan's mother rolled her eyes, her father laughed. Their children were so caught in sports that their daughter had forgotten to greet them.
"So Dylan forgot about us?" her mother said smiling. She was happy that her children we're friends.
"Oops, of course not mom, how've you been?" Dylan asked hugging her short mother.
"Good, now let's get out of here," her mother replied.
"What about me? Don't I get a hug?"
"Of course Daddy!" she said jumping up and giving him a huge hug.
Dylan loved her family. She had been so lucky with them. No one hated each other like in Lily's, and no one had died. They were just about perfect.
The first days of her Holiday passed by quickly. On morning Lily woke up early to a pecking on her window. She rubbed her eyes and looked out. A big beautiful barn owl stared at her. She sighed and opened the window.
Lily,
How've you been? I've been pretty good. Mainly I've been teaching Ben how to be a chaser. I think he shows a lot of potential. He'll probably even make the team his first year or maybe second. I'm not worried about him. Although mom thinks it's funny because he likes that muggle sport hockey. I told her to leave him alone.
Lily smiled to herself. Dylan cared so much about her brother.
Anyways, have you asked you mum and dad yet about coming over here? You better soon because Gwen, my owl, isn't leaving until you do so you better get on it. You should be over here on Christmas Eve at noon. Claire already asked and her parents said it was okay, so they're all going to be over here soon.
So I hope to see you then. Bye-bye Lils, I love you.
Dylan
Well she had better do it now. Lily pulled her hair up and walked into the kitchen. She glanced at the clock, it was 11:30. Wow, she certainly had slept late. She glanced over at her mom who was busy over the stove. Lily always thought her mother had been beautiful. She was tall and skinny like Lily in that pretty sort of way. Her hair was a less flashy color of red, that Lily found more beautiful then hers. And she had the same piercing green eyes.
"Hey mums," Lily said while pouring herself a glass of orange juice.
"Good morning sunshine, fancy anything?" her mother said turning towards her. "I'm making eggs."
"Eggs are fine, but I've been meaning to ask something," she said biting her lip. Okay, Lily just ask her. "Can we all go and spend Christmas with Dylan. Please, it's my last Christmas with them. All of you can come, even Petunia."
Her mother sighed, "Well Petunia is spending Christmas with Vernon, her fiancé, so I guess it's ok just let me run it by your father."
"Oh thanks mom!"
"I'm not saying it's a yes," she said.
"Oh I know," Lily said although she knew it was. "I have to go and write Dylan ok?"
"What about your eggs?"
"I'll come back and eat them in just a second," Lily said dashing upstairs.
Dylan,
My mom said it would be fine. And Petunia isn't coming so I'm free! Finally, she's been muttering mean things at me the moment I got off the train. But whatever, I'm used to it.
I can't wait to see you and I wish I could say more but your owl, Gwen, keeps pecking me. Apparently she wants to go. So I'll see you soon, can't wait.
Love,
Lily
Lily, satisfied, mailed the letter and ran back downstairs. She decided that eggs had never tasted better.
