Glass Shards
He never meant for it to become this. No one ever does, really, and he probably should know best, shouldn't he, what with what had happened with his best friend all these years. He had thought it would be just that once, and that was his immaculate misconception. He was perfectly justified, had perfect reasons to believe so, and it should have been that way, only it wasn't.
It wasn't love. No, far from it. Two men-boys like them would never even dare to think of something so foolish. A Weasley and a Malfoy, love? The sun might as well revolve around the earth.
Ron never meant for it to even happen, and when it did, he never meant for it to occur again. He knew his position in life—Harry's best friend, Hermione's boyfriend, the youngest Weasley male. He didn't need Malfoy to disrupt his calm and content life. He didn't need himself to shatter his reality.
Or maybe he did. Ron might love Hermione, might want to spend the rest of his life with her, but he couldn't help going back to Malfoy because he had everything Ron needed that Hermione lacked. Malfoy offered him a challenge, a thrill, a risk, and the more he took, the more addicted he became. And maybe he didn't mind.
With Malfoy, it was a battle of domination. They fought—biting, clawing, scratching, raking—and bled each other with delight, and that was all it was. Whoever was the quickest fucked the other, but whoever gave in first was the true loser. And Ron needed the exhilarating feeling of power and victory in his veins at the sight of Malfoy coming, losing, something Hermione could never give him.
The lies were second nature now. Ron knew how to heal the bruises and cuts, knew how to keep Hermione satisfied enough to not act on her suspicions if she even had any, knew how to pretend that he wasn't fucking Malfoy, that he was still just Ron Weasley, Harry Potter's best friend.
And the only time he was honest anymore was when he was fucking Malfoy because Malfoy didn't have some idealistic vision of him, unlike his friends and family. Ron didn't think it would come to this level, but now that it had, he wasn't particularly sure if he could go back to the way things were.
After all, only Malfoy saw him for who he really was now, and Ron didn't want to erase the last shred of truth from his lie-filled life.
