Shaman King : Shaman of Emerald Flame

Chapter 1: A different type of Shaman

Disclaimer: Shaman King belongs to Hiroyuki Takei

I only own the original characters and some original concepts.

Flamers: I have yet to be flamed for a fanfic, but anyways I dun really care if you flame me or not. I certainly won't like it since I think it's very rude to flame people. If you have constructive criticism or an ideas for me I will accept them gladly and with politeness. Flaming is immature and rude and any flames will be ripped to pieces and fed to my kitties and my dog.

Author Notes: This is a rewrite of the series , meaning plot changes

I'm also going by the manga because I have no access yet to the anime, and five seconds of the dubbed near killed me.

Couplings: Yoh x Anna, Amidamaru x OC, Ren x OC

Warnings: original characters, romance, cursing, insanity and once again plot , also might be a bit of out of characterness.

Also if you would like to use Koneko or any original characters please let me know.

"This is Funbari Hill?"

A soft, male voice asked softly as he peered out of lightly-colored lavender eyes from off the top of a tall building. His shoulder length black hair was pulled back neatly in a low pony-tail, his lavender eyes were slitted like that of a fox. His large fox ears were covered in silky black fur. He was clearly not alive for he had the aura of a ghost and no legs, in life he looked to have been about six feet tall maybe a bit taller.

He floated beside a small living female, his long, furry, black, fox tail floating behind him. Though he was dressed in a simple, dark purple, male kimono, at first glance some might mistake him for a female.

" Hai..." The much smaller female nodded, agreeing with him. She was sitting on the edge of the building with her small, skinny legs dangling off the side of it. Her long crimson hair fell messily into her face, her bangs covering her left eye almost completely, while the rest was pulled into a tight braid that came down to her small waist. Her deep emerald colored eyes watched as people rushed around on the streets below with an odd calmness. She didn't look very old, probably twelve at most, a fact that was emphasized by the light-green, school shirt she was wearing, and the short, dark-green skirt. Underneath the skirt she wore long, black leggings and black boots.

" Is that the school?" the male ghost asked, glancing over at the building across the street from the one she was sitting on.

" Hai...it seems like a decent place," she said cheerfully, her voice had a soft tone to it, but it also held an edge of toughness and firmness.

" The last school you went to was also decent," he pointed out.

" Except for the kindness of the students," she snapped back and stood up.

"Koneko-sama, why did we have to come here?"

"Because I think I'll do better in school here, Saki," Koneko said calmly, knowing that would bend his will. The kitsune sighed.

"I suppose you're right. I want to see an improvement in your grades though."

"Yes, ma'am," she said, grinning, as she stood up and brushed off her clothes.

"I'm male," he growled.

"I know that..." she gave him a sweet smile. "Ja matta ne Saki-san," she said, and then jumped off the roof of the building, landing gracefully.

"Your fretting again, Saki," a pleasant, female voice said behind him. He turned and found himself staring at an average-sized, female ghost with long, neat, silky, black hair streaked with green. The woman's bangs fell neatly into her light, green eyes. Her hair was kept back, mostly out of her face by large, pointed ears; her body clothed by an ancient, beautiful, mint-green kimono.

"I am not fretting Midori," he said angrily.

"What would you call it then," she prodded gently.

"Worrying about a girl who has tendency to get in danger and trouble without even trying."

"Saki, it's her first day at a new school. How much trouble could she get into?" Midori asked with a sigh.

"Knowing Koneko-sama, quite a lot," he said, glancing back at the small, red-haired girl who was walking into a large school building.

Koneko frowned nervously as she slowly opened the door to her classroom, and walked inside. She glanced around at the students, noting that the green of her shirt was highly visible among the other students' pristine, white shirts. She had issues with pink and white, which was part of the reason she could never wear them. Her shirt was as close to white as she could ever wear.

She glanced at the back of the classroom at an average-sized boy of about 13. His spiky brown-black hair came a bit above his shoulders and was held back with a pair of large, orange earphones. He was wearing a white, open shirt, a pair of simple dark green jeans, sandals and what looked like a bear claw. He was talking with a much smaller boy withy dirty, blonde hair of about the same age, his deep brown eyes filled with kindness and cheerfulness. She couldn't help but smile and wonder if the boy remembered who she was at all. After all, the last time she and Asakura Yoh had seen each other had been almost four years ago.

"Class we have a new student," the teacher announced. Koneko decided in that moment that she didn't like him all that much; he was too loud and obnoxious. He gestured for her to come and stand in front of the class. She did as he wanted, though it clearly made her uncomfortable; she disliked having so many people staring at her.

"This is Akikaze Koneko; she just transferred here from Izumo." While teacher wrote the kanji for her name on the board, she looked over the students and caught eyes with Yoh. He blinked at her, then his eyes widened, and he slowly grinned as he recognized her. She smiled back, relieved that there was one friendly, familiar face among the class. Not to mention the boy next to Yoh didn't look like he was a bad person either.

"Take a seat beside Asakura," the teacher ordered. She nodded and did as she was told. Almost the minute she had finished sitting down, the teacher launched into a complicated lesson. Yoh beamed at her, obviously not paying attention to the teacher. She had an easy bet that had she not been there, he'd have been dead asleep on his desk.

"Ohayo Ko-chan, it's great to see you again," he grinned even more widely at her, calling her by an old nickname that she had never taken to, or liked in the least. "I had no idea you would be coming to Funbari Hill."

"For the first thing, don't call me Ko-chan. You know I hate it," she growled, her right eyebrow twitching slightly in annoyance.

"What ever you say Ko-chan," she decided to ignore that one.

"Second, it is wonderful to see you again, Yoh-kun. It's been almost four years since I saw you. Also, I wasn't positive till a few days ago that I would be joining you here...." she giggled nervously. "I have to do a pretty extreme distraction to escape from her. You know how she is."

Yoh nodded and shuddered. Koneko noticed Manta looking over at her.

"Is this your new friend?" She asked Yoh, who nodded.

"Yup, this is Oyamada Manta. Manta this is Ko-chan," he introduced them. She glared at Yoh and then smiled cheerfully at Manta.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Oyamada-san, and please, I ask you with all my heart, don't call me Ko-chan. I hate that nickname and no amount of pain can stop Yoh from calling me that."

He nodded. "Don't worry I won't. It's nice to meet you, too," he smiled up at her. "Should I just call you Koneko, then?"

"Hai..and I should call you Manta?"

He nodded again and then frowned nervously. "Can I ask you a question?"

"Sure, go right ahead."

"You seem to know Yoh really well, but you just came to Funbari Hill."

"Yup, me and Yoh grew up together, so I guess you could say we're childhood friends, " she said calmly, leaning back in her chair. Manta looked about to ask something else.

"ASAKURA, AKIKAZE, OYAMADA PAY ATTENTION!" the teacher roared. Koneko groaned and held her ears in pain, as Yoh and Manta stiffened and sat upright, though seconds later Yoh had fallen asleep again.

~~~~~~~~
Koneko yawned as she leaned back in her chair at the ice cream restaurant they had gone to. "Geeze! That teacher is boring.." she muttered, tiredly. "How on earth do you manage to listen to him everyday and not sleep?" she asked Manta, who was sitting across from her. She knew better then to ask Yoh that kind of question.
"Well the information is important, and it's school," he said bringing out a large book.
"What the hell is that thing?" she asked, her eyes going wide.
"It's my dictionary, it tells about practically everything," he explained. "I never got to finish asking my question. Do you mind?"
"Nope go right ahead," she took a bite out of her green tea ice cream. Yoh was sitting beside her gulping his ice cream down at a surprising speed.
"You and Yoh grew up together..so are you..uh you know.. um..?"
"A shaman? Of course! I mean what else would I be...?" she shrugged and was unprepared for the loud yell that Manta gave.
"SO! There are other shamans!" He seemed unaware that Koneko was rubbing her ears from the loudness of his yell.
"Of course there are, Manta. You didn't think I was the only one, did you?" Yoh asked, having finished his ice cream already.
" Well..I.." Manta stuttered.
"Manta-san, do me a favor..." Koneko asked, whimpering. "Please, don't yell that loud ever again, it hurts." Manta blinked at her, almost confused.
"She has super sensitive ears," Yoh explained for her. "Hey! Is Saki here?"
"Yeah, as well as Midori. You have a new ghost, as well, I hear," she said, taking another bite out of her ice cream.
"Hai. Hey! AMIDAMARU! Come out and say hi to the old friend I told you about," Yoh said somewhat loudly, but not enough to hurt her ears. When tall ghost in black armor with long white hair appeared by Yoh, somewhat suddenly, Manta yelped again.
"Hello," the little redhead said, smiling up at Amidamaru.
"Hello, Miss. Are you the female warrior that Yoh-dono told me about?" He asked, earnestly.
"I think so. Unless Yoh met some other martial artist who fights with a naginata and a sword." She sighed, "though my sword skills are hardly where I'd like them to be."
"You know how to fight?" Manta asked, amazed.
"Damn right I do, shrieky. I'm a unique shaman! I'm like Yoh, yet I'm not. My body's physical strength has to be well trained for what I do."
"Huh?"
"Ya see, Manta-san, I integrate with the ghosts of demons, among other things," she grinned cheerfully.
"D-D-DEMONS?!"
"Sou"
"Manta, you know all the old folklore about demon foxes, cats, wolves, dragons and other things, right?" Yoh asked, noticing the confused look on his friend's face.
Manta nodded slowly.
"Well, there aren't any real demons left alive now, but all those legends were true. Ko-chan here can integrate with their ghosts and use their powerful attacks," he explained.
"Some of them. I'm still human, meaning my body can only take so much, which is why I have to always train, so I don't accidentally get myself killed," she added, eating a bit more of her ice cream.
"You do that even without your ghosts help."
"Shut up, Yoh," she said, hitting him on the head.
"Itai!" he rubbed his head in pain, while Manta just stared at her. Amidamaru watched the scene with interest.
"You must certainly be a powerful warrior to integrate with demons, though I would never trust a demon," he said, looking over at her and smiling.
"Trust me; half of them I wouldn't, either, but not all demons are bad. Actually, some of them are quite nice," she smiled and Yoh nodded.
"Saki is nice and so is Midori."
"Two of my ghosts. Saki is a black kitsune who...well let's just say he likes books a lot, and Midori is a emerald dragon," Koneko explained to Manta, to try and help unconfuse him. "Don't worry. If you're around a lot you'll meet them."
"Hey, Ko-chan. Are you going to live with me?" Yoh asked, something just dawning on him. He got hit again.
"Of course, I'm living with you baka, where else would I be living?" she replied, crossing her arms.
"Good point," he grinned.
"There are a lot more to shamans then I thought," Manta said, still partially in shock about finding out about demons.
"Sure is! Mind you, I am an odd Shaman. I'm not like any other known one in existence, at least that's what Yoh's mother told me when she was training me."
"Hey, how is Mom?"
"Busy. She doesn't even have time to train me anymore. That's why she sent me to work for a priestess here in Funbari Hill."
"NOT THAT OLD LADY!" Yoh shuddered, violently.
"Probably. Well, we'll find out tomorrow, won't we?"
"Hai. Hey, Manta, we're going to head home, okay." Yoh said, standing up as did Koneko.
"Yeah, that's a good idea. There's school tomorrow and homework tonight," Manta reminded them. Both shamans grimaced at the idea of homework.
"Matta ashita, Manta-san," Koneko waved goodbye to him, as she and Yoh headed home.
A large, gray cat watched the two young shamans walk home, with an evil glint in it's slitted, golden eyes. It looked directly at Koneko, as it turned into a tall ghost with long gray-silver hair and small gray cat ears. The wind ran through his gray kimono as his tail twitched in the night.
"Akikaze Koneko... hmm," he smiled, coldly. "How interesting that you should come to Funbari Hill."
"HEY! Nezumaru-sama!" A male child's voice called from behind him. He glanced at the boy out of the corner of his eye. The child was clearly a wolf, by his black wolf ears and his messy black and red hair. The boy's eyes were a cheerful, fire red, and he was dressed in a ripped up brown and black kimono. Like the gray cat demon, he was a ghost.
"What is it, Chikazu?" The cat asked, calmly.
"We're not going to hurt her, right?" He asked, with childlike innocence.
"Of course not, little wolf. I wouldn't dream of it," he lied, easily, as he glanced out into the night sky once again.
