Quest of the Seekers: Elements of Transformation

Year One at Hogwarts

Chapter 8: Back to school with a Plan

After the episode down in the 'Deep Level' Tyler had the book with him but stashed it with the rest of his school things. He wrote to all his friends asking of their Christmas and the rest of their vacations but in his letters to Jacke, Brad and Reggie he wrote that he had a surprise idea for them to try and that it was a little risky. With the book, which had the ingredients for a potion and the after instructions for a transformation he wanted to try it with his friends. He gave his destiny a lot of thought along with the advice Chaos gave him before Christmas and came up with an answer. The only way to become accepted is to show that parselmouths aren't the dark wizards people think they are and the best way to show that was to stop the terrorizing parselmouth of all: Voldemort. This transformation would help and he decided to share this power with his friends. He considered sharing it with his Slytherin pals but decided they would think he was grudging against Severus' father.

It finally became time to go back to Hogwarts. Tyler wanted to go back to see his friends but it was still hard to say goodbye to his parents. They reached Platform 9 ¾ and stopped to say their final words.

"Tyler. Be good and make sure you keep up you ruse."

"Don't worry mom. I'll be careful and I'll have Pandy send letters like usual." He hugged his mom and then his dad.

"Be safe son. Write if there is trouble. You could count on me."

Quietly Tyler said. "I will father."

After the hug from him he took his trunk down to the end corridor where he asked his friends to meet in his letters. After putting his stuff away the sliding doors opened revealing Reggie.

"Reggie!" They hugged in greeting. "It's great to see you."

"You too. Now what is this important, risky but exciting plan you have?"

"You'll see after the others come."

Soon Brad and Jacke arrived in the corridor and Tyler removed the book form his family's secret room for them to see.

"Okay guys. What I'm about to suggest is such a mind shattering idea that you swear you had been hit by a troll's club."

Then all three in unison. "What is it?!"

"Okay, I found this book in...Flourish & Blotts (he didn't want to scare them and say his house) and I think it was a sign like we were destined to come across. The title is 'Harness the Powers of the Earth' and it has sections on...elementals!"

Reggie and Jacke eyes grew wide and opened their mouths for shocked expressions. Brad however and a confused face.

"What's an elemental?"

Reggie spoke. "Elementals are wizards that have the ability to manipulate and create the natural elements on the planet like the water and wind without wands and they're rare."

Jacke just had to speak. "Why do I have the felling you're going to shock us more, Tyler?"

"Well, not only does this book not only tell of them but it gives instructions for the potion for becoming the catalyst for an element and elemental training tips."

"Tyler, mate! Are you saying that we should become, elementals?"

"Yes! Together. This could really help defend ourselves. Especially against the Death Eaters."

Brad again asked a question. "What are Death Eaters? I've never heard of those creatures."

Jacke answered this question for Brad. "It's what Voldemort calls his supporters, Brad."

"Well, how about it?"

All three had unreadable faces. It was hard to tell if they were excited or resistant. Jacke had his face in deep concentration. He spoke first with his decision.

"I'm in. I think this will heat up my dull life already of Hogwarts."

"Dull Life?" said all three in unison."

"Dull in the lack of adventure. Brad, c'mon. Don't tell me that you don't want to wash away how the pureblood idealists feel about you and what better way than this"

Brad seemed to be thinking hard on this until. "Okay, you talked me into it. The thought of this really making me feel very rebellious."

"Excellent. What about you, Reggie? Are you in?"

"I don't know. What if we get caught? I've read that element manipulation is a dark art. We could get in real trouble."

Jacke sat by his friend with an understanding face and voice to match. "Reggie...What's the fun without the element of risk. Sure this transformation is risky but life only gives these chances once in a lifetime. This could be real fun and you're going to let it blow by you?"

Tyler stepped in. "You know Reggie, you don't have to do this if you don't want to. We won't force or hold it against you if you're not in on it 100%. We'll understand."

Reggie looked at his three friends one at a time and then after a few moments of silence. "Ok, I'll do it. I'm in guys!"

The train whistle blew and started to move at the same time the four of them went into a group hug. The compartment was full of youthful cheer and energy by the 11 year olds. After they calmed down Tyler spoke.

"Look guys, we still have to actually do the tings that the book says. The first thing the book says is that we have to prepare the potion to become better intoned with the elements. The ingredients are all here:

½ foot of tiger hair

shredded shell of a turtle

1 dragon fang

1 vile of phoenix ash

2 eel fins

4 drops of the venom of a snake

2 petals of a flower lily

1 feather of an eagle

1 powdered threshal scale

1 gram of gold

1 vile of rain water

"Wow that's a lot of hard stuff. How long will it take Tyler?"

"Well Brad, it says here that the time to brew this is 30 days."

"A month?!" Jacke couldn't believe his eyes. "All that in a month. This will take forever."

Reggie unexpectedly spoke. "No, it actually is perfect."

"What? How is waiting that long perfect?"

"Well, these ingredients may be very hard to get and I'm betting my wand that we don't have to put everything at once for this potion. We'll have to have complicated stirring and adding instructions, right Tyler?"

"You won that bet. The procedure requires us to throw the items in boiling water for the potion days at a time in the month with all these complicated instructions."

"Exactly. So we could get started on what we could go and get the rest while the potion is being brewed. I'm sure getting phoenix ashes and snake venom won't take overnight."

"But still...I just can't wait!"

"Whoa Jacke. Hold on there mate. The potion may take a month but that doesn't mean we'll be elementals right away. We only become catalysts and still have to learn how to control the power."

"Reggie...do you always have to shove reality in as a weapon?"

"I'm sorry to say this Jacke but Reggie is a little right."

"A little? What's the big deal Tyler?"

"Well, this book has the training and feeling we're supposed to go through to create and manipulate the elements. If we work at it between homework then we'll be elementals in two and a half months at the least if we started right away."

"Yes! I still can't believe that we're doing this. This is what it's all about."

Suddenly Brad spoke in a calculating voice. "Guys, this doesn't make sense. You said that this magical art is rare but I find that hard to believe seeing as how it simpler than you made it sound."

Reggie was curious. "What do mean Brad?"

"Well if this book was so easy to get then how come the elementals are rare?"

Reggie's eyes lit up. "Yeah, how could you have come across this book, Tyler?"

"I told you guys...that I found it in Florish & Blotts", said Tyler in a very little unconvincing voice.

Jacke started getting suspicious as well. "Tyler, you can't have found it in Florish & Blotts because I doubt they would keep a book like this one for a public purchase."

Tyler had to think and talk fast. "To tell you guys the truth is that I didn't buy it."

"You didn't?"

"No Brad...I didn't. It was in Florish & Blotts where I was just looking for any interesting spellbooks but I was walking down 1 of the lesser used aisles and this book fell off a shelf in front of me and I discovered it didn't have an inventory button. So I just pocketed it and looked it over at home."

That part was at least part true. He did find it in a deserted aisle and it did fall off the shelf right in front of him. He hated lying to his friends but if he told them the truth then they wouldn't be his friends any longer. Brad spoke again.

"Well, since you told me then I guess I could think this is okay."

"Yeah, to me, this felt like a sign that we were meant to come across this book. Also, it would help us when we need it like if we are cornered by things like the Death Eaters."

"Death Eaters? Oh wait I remember."

Reggie spoke. "Yeah Voldemort's supporters...Funny I still can't believe that I could say his name without worry."

"Yeah, me too. We all owe that to you Tyler."

"It was nothing Jacke, mate. Now remember, let's not go around telling people about the elemental transformation. Just keep it between us, okay?"

"Got it"

"You bet"

"No problem, there"

The Hogwarts Express soon after pulled into Hogsmeade station. They had returned to Hogwarts.

End of Chapter Author Notes Congratulations to those who guessed any of these guys and good try for those who didn't. The next chapter will have them trying to not get caught with this transformation. Next chapter: Elemental Potion Not Made Easy.
